For as long as he can remember, Minoru Kagenou has been fixated on becoming as strong as possible, which has led him to undertake all kinds of rigorous training. This wish, however, does not stem from a desire to be recognized by others; rather, Minoru does everything he can to blend in with the crowd. So, while pretending to be a completely average student during the day, he arms himself with a crowbar and ruthlessly thrashes local biker gangs at night. Yet when Minoru finds himself in a truck accident, his ambitions seemingly come to a sudden end. In his final moments, he laments his powerlessness—no matter how much he trained, there was nothing he could do to overcome his human limitations.

But instead of dying, Minoru reawakens as Cid, the second child of the noble Kagenou family, in another world—one where magic is commonplace. With the power he so desired finally within his grasp, he dons the moniker "Shadow" and establishes Shadow Garden: a group whose sole purpose is to combat the enigmatic Cult of Diablos, an organization born from Cid's imagination. However, as Shadow Garden grows in both membership and influence, it becomes increasingly apparent that the Cult of Diablos is not as fictional as Cid had intended.

At first, the opening scenes seemed interesting, a story told narrative style about one typical-HS-president girl with a dark past; and how her life intersected with- the boy who is I suppose the MC- but from her perspective. The slow and plodding way it moved, the dark undertone, was a nice touch. But then in the kidnap scene this show’s hero-
I forgot his name, Edgeward McEdgelord probably, but just call him Kirito for short, drops in and takes on the thugs with: f—-ing crowbars. CROWBARS. And this wasn’t just a typical beat-up-the-baddies fight with some bloody noses and wounded pride- it was an all out ...

There are people that seem to believe this show is parody, a deconstruction of the ridiculous power fantasies of isekai-genre enjoyers. If that was the authorial intent, then they missed the mark. They missed it by a very, very long way.

This somehow manages to be a deformed mash up of a typical irony-poisoned rom-com and a real isekai offender like overlord. If it is a parody then lacks any sense of humour in its execution, somehow imagining that just being irony-poisoned would carry it through, but, what possible literary objective could you have with an irony-poisoned god who is not crippled by a soul rending ...

I came into watching "Shadow Garden" by chance when I saw a meme that resembled a gag I'd read in a cheesy isekai manga a while back (its literally this show, chapter 3, page 34, were hes scooping money off the floor), so thought heck I'm a sucker for bad writing in isekai, lets jump down the rabbit hole.

As of writing this review only 3 episodes were out, and I knew it was isekai fantasy, as it takes place in an academy format, which is a nice change from everyone being RPG adventurers heading to the local guild to pick up 4 slave girls. However ...
