Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru

There is a popular saying: "you can never be too careful." It is very important to prepare for every situation you may face, even if it seems like an unnecessary waste of time. Also, in games like RPGs, it is good to exceed the level of your enemies to achieve total victory.

These words describe Seiya Ryuuguuin a little too perfectly. After being summoned by the goddess Ristarte to save the world of Gaeabrande from destruction, the hero prepares himself for his noble journey. While this might be normal, he spends a very long time training himself, despite having overpowered stats. He fights weak enemies using his strongest skills and buys excessive amounts of supplies and potions—all to stay safe.

While his attitude may be a bit annoying, it might just be the saving grace of Gaeabrande, especially considering that it is a world where the forces of evil dominate each and every expectation.

The gimmick runs thin to some extent as the series goes on but the ending is surprisingly good. I won't spoil the end but the gimmick isn't used in the way you'd expect, not as much 'overpowered self insert' in most ways. The humor wasn't so much to my taste and is probably hit or miss, but the character has some interesting uses anyway. I sort of expected the ending to be worse rather than sort of save the show as it did. Sort of wish for more just to wrap up the threads of the ending but apparently the light novel is ongoing on ... hiatus and it's been a long time since this anime so seems very unlikely.

Worth a watch for a nice brief story.

Mixed Feelings

This was decent, with some caveats. I was smirking at a lot of the jokes, which is more than I do for almost any other anime comedy. However, it was let down quite a bit by the goddess Ristarte overreacting. A joke subverting the typical isekai tropes would be made and would be completely obvious, but then the dumb blonde chick (she’s really just a near-clone of Aqua from Konosuba) would freak out and say "OMG WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FOLLOWING THE <TROPE>!!!" This was essentially the show explaining the joke which was just totally unnecessary and made all ... the jokes seem worse in hindsight. Japanese humor really needs to learn some nuance here and there.

I consistently found it funny how the women would all gush over the attractive MC even though he was consistently a jerk to them. This was clearly a parody of the modern dating scene, and the show's creators had probably seen a few too many of those Chad Tinder experiments.

It was good that this anime only lasted for 12 episodes as it was starting to wear a bit thin by the end. Overall it was a decent watch for a few hours.

Disappointing and Overrated

I’m genuinely puzzled by the high ratings for this series. Far from being entertaining, it relies on juvenile humor that falls flat and fails to deliver any meaningful wit or cleverness. Unless you enjoy mindless, lowbrow comedy, I would strongly advise against wasting your time.

Key Issues:
Unoriginal Plot: The story follows a tired, predictable formula without adding anything fresh or innovative. Within the first few episodes, I could easily guess every major plot "twist."
Shallow Characters: Each character feels like a recycled stereotype with no depth or development. They’re one-dimensional caricatures rather than believable individuals.
... Forced Humor: The jokes are repetitive and rely heavily on crass or absurd scenarios that aren’t just unfunny—they’re cringe-inducing.

This series feels like a missed opportunity. With better writing and more creative risks, it could have been worthwhile. As it stands, it’s a slog I wouldn’t recommend.
