Darling in the FranXX

In the distant future, humanity has been driven to near-extinction by giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs, forcing the surviving humans to take refuge in massive fortress cities called Plantations. Children raised here are trained to pilot giant mechas known as FranXX—the only weapons known to be effective against the Klaxosaurs—in boy-girl pairs. Bred for the sole purpose of piloting these machines, these children know nothing of the outside world and are only able to prove their existence by defending their race.

Hiro, an aspiring FranXX pilot, has lost his motivation and self-confidence after failing an aptitude test. Skipping out on his class' graduation ceremony, Hiro retreats to a forest lake, where he encounters a mysterious girl with two horns growing out of her head. She introduces herself by her codename Zero Two, which is known to belong to an infamous FranXX pilot known as the "Partner Killer." Before Hiro can digest the encounter, the Plantation is rocked by a sudden Klaxosaur attack. Zero Two engages the creature in her FranXX, but it is heavily damaged in the skirmish and crashes near Hiro. Finding her partner dead, Zero Two invites Hiro to pilot the mecha with her, and the duo easily defeats the Klaxosaur in the ensuing fight. With a new partner by his side, Hiro has been given a chance at redemption for his past failures, but at what cost?

First time writing a review be comprehensive please, I am gonna be honest i am a new anime watcher and probably don't have much experience. However, this does not change the fact whether you like something or not, by that i mean if you like something or you find it interesting in the slightest then give it a try, such as a book title or plot, read the first 5 chapters then decide whether it is for you or not.

Anyway getting that out of the way, let me be clear, this anime is straight up depression, it is on the level of Kimi no ... Suizou wo Tabetai but a bit worse.

Story 9/10
It is sci-fi and people will not really understand some things at the start, in addition various important aspects of the story will not be presented until late in the show, the story as i have seen seen is not very original, but when a new viewer watches it he wouldn't know so it does not really affect, frankly i don't see any bad in series copying others and only taking the best parts, but that is my point of view i guess. The whole thing is really connected like the title, the color of the two XX's, the "darling", you will get it when you finish it.

Audio 10/10
The opening theme song is really good and the intro itself was not that bad ,but it does not play a huge role in the series so i won't be taking that into a count. Plus, the voice actors were actually pretty great, except a part of Zero Two saying "darling" too much but you will get used to it.

Characters 9/10
We can see a lot of character development, each character is given at least a bit of backstory and past struggles. Although, Hiro didn't have that much development but that is discussable. Really loved the characters and even some of the supporting ones.

Animation/Effects 8/10
They were undisputedly enjoyable but there were not a 10, like Kimi no wawa or Weathering with you, pretty consistent, overall good can't hate or rely on animation too much when watching a show.

Enjoyment 10/10
I really didn't have a hard time watching, kept me excited throughout the episodes, no filler (expected in a 24 episode series), you could argue that the audio is too loud, but only the fights were a problem (personal opinion).

Overall 10/10
I know that the numbers don't add up to 10 but even if they don't when you feel that it deserves it you can do as you please, because it about your personal experience and enjoyment of the anime not others, don't get me wrong i think reviews are great but only in part of judging animation, audio and story. What matters is what you like and i really damned liked it. It is bugging me seeing people giving a 1 and scaring people off, the "plot was copied" "parts were stolen" arguments are stupid in my opinion, some people haven't watched the same anime as you.

Darling in the FranXX is really underappreciated, i am no expert but i can surely tell you if you are a "casual" like me, you will enjoy it, it opens up to variety of watchers. If I wanna leave you with something, it is, don't be afraid of trying something, it will do no harm, it is not a crime to drop a series, just try it out.

Mixed Feelings

Whats up lads, here is your objective opinion on DitF.

Basically, Episodes 1-15 are the greatest anime I've ever watched, and episodes 16-24 are the worst episodes of anime I've ever watched. My rating of 6 explains this, as 6/10ths or so of the anime are perfect while the rest literally just tears it down.

Why not lower? Because the last few episodes are amazing comedic relief, some might even enjoy it if you're a hate watcher

Characters suck besides the two we care about, which is fine because those two and their dynamic is what actually matters, theyre pretty boring with no development, the art ... style is aight. the story is insanely unique except that it copies every element from a prior mecha anime (NGE,TTGL).

No Short Recap, i dont really feel like doing one for this show

Art - 8/10 Animation is good, character models are good, CG if used is alright, Very trigger esk easily the high point of this show.

Characters 2/10 i hate 90% of characters, there is probably 3 characters that are likeable and don't act childish, I can understand characters acting childish if they are done in a true way how children act but how they are portrayed in Darling In The Franxx is just annoying.

Story 2/10 Story is boring, Basic and not unique, the most unique part of the story is when zero ... two turns into a spaceship.

OSt/Sound Design - 5/10 Nothing special here, alot of shouting from the kids in the show that gets annoying, but ost is fine and the opening is a banger.

Enjoyment - 5/10 I enjoyed the first half of the show and episode 15 decently, but the rest was all just shit story being dragged to fill out 24 episodes.

Overall 4/10 Do not watch this unless you want to be disappointed and lead on by a good opening and a cast of formidable characters. Not Worth.
