High School DxD Hero

After rescuing his master, Rias Gremory, from the Dimensional Gap, Red Dragon Emperor and aspiring Harem King Issei Hyoudou can finally return to his high school activities alongside fellow members of the Occult Research Club: Yuuto Kiba, Asia Argento, Xenovia Quarta, and Irina Shidou. The group soon embarks on a school trip to Kyoto.

While peacefully visiting a temple thanks to Rias' spell, an attacking group of local youkai breaks the calm atmosphere. Once the altercation ends, the club learns that the mythical nine-tailed fox that protected the city was abducted and that someone has framed them for the act. Issei and his friends will now have to fight to protect the city and save their school trip from a planned disaster!

In the meantime, Rias, who had to stay in Tokyo with Akeno Himejima and Koneko Toujou, grows increasingly restless to have left the perverted Issei alone with the other girls of the Occult Research Club. Beyond this vague anxiety, what is the exact nature of the feelings Rias has been struggling with for the past few months?

Two important quotes to open this review with

'It's red. Red just like the color of her hair. It's red. Her hair is more crimson than strawberry blonde, the same color coating my hands...' & 'You will... devote your life to me!'

These two quotes are very important as they mark the beginning of the series and set the stage for the relationship between the main character and the girl he admires, the same girl who eventually saves him from death and revives him as a demon to serve under her.

The two quotes have stuck with me ever since I first heard them, and all I can ... say is that they truly hold meaning by the end of season 4. I hope everyone who will watch the anime will pay attention to them.

The main character is initially portrayed as a perverted high schooler who only cares about boobs and the bodies of his female classmates. However, when it comes to Rias, he remembers her for her beauty and the presence she exudes even during his last moments, not just her body, and remembers always seeing her by the window of the old school building.

If we manage to put Issei's perverted side aside, we can actually notice that he is a caring, light-hearted, and selfless person who would sacrifice himself to save his friends. However, without his perverted nature, he would feel too generic if those were his only attributes and it would automatically make the show less funnier in certain moments and, well of course, less 'Ecchi'.

Throughout the series, up until season 4, we can see how the dynamic between Issei and other characters changes, including the president of the Occult Research Club, Rias Gremory. She grows even more attached to her pawn due to the events that unfolded, such as him saving her from the unwanted marriage with Riser Phenex and protecting her throughout season 2 & 3, among other things.

Rias' family expanded, and new characters were introduced up until DxD Hero. We also see characters like Koneko shift their perspective, initially seeing Issei as just a pervert but eventually growing attached to him and falling for him due to his actions such as saving and supporting Kiba during his lowest moments, him taking responsability for his actions despite being able to basically throw someone else under the bus and keep himself safe from any disputes and receive a less harsher punishment, etc.

I won't spoil anything more than I already have, but I will say that the development of relationships between the characters is well done and IS THERE and it is also enjoyable to watch. Even the scenes with less clothing have meaning, as they reflect what the characters in question think and feel about Issei.

All I can say about the soundtrack is that it is splendid. Throughout this season, we can see several references to the Shinsou no, Ojou-sama desu OST, the one used as Rias' main theme, and I'm not going to lie, it hits hard. The opening and outro aren't the best compared to the previous ones, but they are decent. Personally, I believe the best OP that DxD has to offer is from DxD Born, and for the outro, I have to give it to DxD, with DxD New coming in right behind it.

The art style has changed, and I neither dislike nor particularly like it. However, if I had to choose between the art style from seasons 1-3 and season 4, I would still prefer the season 1-3 TNK art style.

I'm guilty of it, I enjoy the fanservice that this anime has to offer, and I'm all for it but after a while it does get repetitive and I can say that I'm satisifed with the relationship development of the characters more rather than those naughty parts of it.

I recommend giving it a chance and watching all of the seasons and trying to look for those small changes in relationships between the characters as it well make its more enjoyable, at least it does it for me! Just remember to have fun! :)

Mixed Feelings

This show certainly isn't for everyone. I couldn't recommend it to anyone other than young men, who will most likely atleast enjoy the constant nudity. But that shouldn't put everyone off. The series starts off seeming peverted, but as it progresses it starts getting soppy, cutesy, and romantic. AND SO WHAT? It's a boy's show, meant fro boys at that kind of age where hot girls and breasts are all that matters, and in that area, IT WORKS! i guess? There really isn't much to expect from a show like this. It's got the one thing someone may possibly want and need. ANIME TITTIES. AND ... THERE'S ALOT OF THEM HERE. The main point of criticism I have is in the writing. Some of the dialogue, well, its pretty embarassing, but on the whole it's fine. And I couldnt help feeling that the plots could be better. That many things about the demons weren't explored enough as much as I wanted them to be. In fact, the writing goes out of the way to include something to with boobs or whatever, but I guess that's what the exploitation genre is all about. Some battle sequences were good, and the interactions between the main character and his friends were hilarious. I enjoyed it; not for everyone, but you're into this sort of thing, why not give it a go.

I was pretty hyped when it was announced that it'll be getting another season.

But, after seeing it. It was a complete DISASTER! The art style was okay, it's the quality is one of my issues. The storyline was HORRIBLE! The characters are SHIT, and the villains are TERRIBLE! JUST TERRIBLE! Hell, even the writing was also TERRIBLE!

The story was just AWFUL! The characters are treated like SHIT! The only thing that made this anime so bad and made it more terrible is not just the characters. It's that Issei Hyoudou! Fuck me, he became more worst and he's a complete ignorant prick and an inbred ... idiot, show-off, disgusting person, a virus to women and a danger to children!

High School DxD: Hero was a complete waste of time! This anime is the WORST season of 2018, WORST anime of all time and a total piece of garbage! I cannot stand it!

High School DxD: Hero gets an "F". Final Rating: 2/10.

FUCK THIS ANIME!!
