Synopsis

It has been two and a half years since Naruto Uzumaki left Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, for intense training following events which fueled his desire to be stronger. Now Akatsuki, the mysterious organization of elite rogue ninja, is closing in on their grand plan which may threaten the safety of the entire shinobi world.

Although Naruto is older and sinister events loom on the horizon, he has changed little in personality—still rambunctious and childish—though he is now far more confident and possesses an even greater determination to protect his friends and home. Come whatever may, Naruto will carry on with the fight for what is important to him, even at the expense of his own body, in the continuation of the saga about the boy who wishes to become Hokage.

I've finally finished Shippuden. I don't use the word finally to suggest the show was a drag, yes, it had it's up and downs, rather stratospheric up's and mind numbing downs to be frank, but on the whole it was an exciting, riveting, wholesome and heartbreaking experience I am very glad I finally got round to watching. I'm here not really sure what to write. So much has been written about Shippuden that this review won't really add anything to the thousands of reviews that have come before but nevertheless, here we go.

I normally break up my reviews into 3 key parts; Story, Animation ... and music though I'm not sure that would really do this 500 ep show the justice it deserves so I'll separate the story into some of the key character's stories instead. Firstly, Ill cover the animation. Its really hard to say anything bad about the animation here. Naruto doesn't really lend itself to the over the top animated fight sequences compared to other shounen, simply because of how the characters fight and the usage of Ninjutsu. There were many times I was begging for some over the top moments but I can now safely say, when appreciated without my expectations, at worst the animation does exactly what it needs to, at best it's beautiful. Where the animation shines is in the hand to hand combat. I can't name specific fights here as it would have result in spoilers but it is safe to say they are stunning to watch. Don't get me wrong, there are some Ninjutsu based fights that are equally stunning, but I think it's safe to say that the fights in Shippuden have animation take a back seat to narrative, and what a narrative it is, I'll come to that later though. All in all, as I said above, at worst, the animation does exactly what is required of it and I wouldn't want it to change. I don't believe the animation needed to be more intense or mind-blowing, despite it not being either of these two things, I believe it is perfect for the show I would give it a 9/10.

Moving on to the music. Personally, it's perfect. 10/10. The choices is music fit literally everything perfectly. Moments of stress building are have their own motif, moments of heartbreak have their own motif, moments of joy have their own motif and moments of saying goodbye the same. In between these recurring themes are subtle background sounds that deliver a true score experience. Some of the key standouts from the music are; Sadness and Sorrow, Martyr, Loneliness and my goodness, Experienced Many Battles borrows to my soul. Ill be honest, Ive named some here, but there are all perfect. I know the show is fresh in my mind, but with every passing second of these songs, I can hear vividly the characters, I can see the moments and if you take a look of the comments on YouTube to any of these songs you will see endless comparable remarks like mine. The music is not only stunning, but it has a way of replaying the moments in your mind with such vivid quality and floods your entire body with the accompanying emotions Shippuden delivers so beautifully. I watched this show when it was long finished, and it already resides within me emotionally, so much so that the smallest note can bring up the wonder of parts of this show. I can only imagine the connection and deep love people who watched this being released must feel for this show. I can imagine the music simultaneously breaks, repairs and embraces their hearts all at the same time. The music of Naruto is phenomenal. I would put money on it that you change your mind very quickly. Its not until you hear the music outside of the show that it really hits you and you truly realise it's a masterpiece of an OST.

Now I've got myself all emotional, what better thing is their to talk about next other than the characters and story.....here we go.....One thing this show does unbelievably well is emotion. It is within every single second. Whether that be love, sadness, forgiveness, anger, every emotion is perfectly conveyed. I would also like to point out that everything up to episodes around the 400 mark are 10/10. I found that within the episodes of 400 to 500, it's full of flashbacks, some you have seen multiple times by this point and it really starts to drag a little bit. So with this in mind, Shippuden is not a perfect show, but I would still give it a 9/10. Considering how many episodes there are, this is an incredible feat. Above, is the only real negative thing I have to say about the story really, so with that in mind I want to mention some characters.

Jiraiya - for me, Jiraiya is everything to this anime. He is the rock for Naruto, he provides the perfect level of comic relief at time and ultimately in integral to most of the story's progression. Jiraiya plays such a fundamental role to this show that there is very little I can say here without spoiling something. There is so much I would want to say about this guy. One thing I will say is that Jiraiya will give you some of the best character driven arcs of any anime. He is in one of the best of Shippuden (The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant) and is the undying flame behind possibly the greatest story arc ever written (Pain's Assault). Jiraiya is one of my favourite characters in this show and will likely be yours.

Itachi - Speaking of the two arcs above, smack bang in the middle of them is Fated Battle Between Brothers. One thing is for certain, I can say absolutely nothing about this. Only that this changes everything. Itachi is such a superb antagonist. His mere appearance causes fear for anyone in his presence. He really is a fascinating character. Sadly however, I can say no more about him specifically. What I can say is there are some truly beautiful moments with Itachi involved and equally moments of excitement. He is involved in one of the greatest fights of the entire show and he deserves it.

Sasuke - now, I can't say I have the same fondness for Sasuke as I do for the first two mentioned. I believe that he is a missed opportunity in this show. His character delivers very little for me. The only thing positive Sasuke adds is the fact that Naruto wants to bring him back to the Leaf. That's it for me. Most of the arcs he is part of are either rather boring or his part in the exciting arcs is boring. Also, he's just an unlikely character and I don't think it's down to purposeful writing. Good writing of an unlikely characters makes you enjoy not liking someone. Sasuke for me, is just unlikable and most of the time when he appears on screen, I want it to be over sooner rather than later.

Pain - Ok, setting Sasuke to one side who is the only character is don't like, I'll talk about the perfect antagonist that is Pain. There is nothing about pain that is badly written. Every flashback, every line, every movement is perfect and yes, he is the key antagonist in Pain's Assault arc and what an arc it is. Most of you time you are just sat, mouth open in shock, or eyes flooded with tears through sadness or happiness. The characters writing of Pain is the best the show has, and this show has so many great characters I won't talk about. Pain is perfection and truly encapsulates the word itself. Again, I won't go into the content of the arc itself as it is so important not to know a thing going into this show but trust me, Pain and this arc is a masterpiece.

Naruto - finally Naruto. Its really hard to put into words the journey this fool takes you on. I have laughed out loud, I have cried out loud, I have been heartbroken, warmed to the soul and been happy to continue with his every step of the way. Most characters develop over time, the character development in the show is superb, Naruto has it all from the beginning. Difference with Naruto is one layer of emotion is shown at certain times and covered back up when required. As far as protagonists go, he's is up their with Luffy. I'm sure there will be some One Piece elitists that disagree but his is and that's the end of it. The twists and turns Naruto has to go through is honestly and incredible ride and he also has the most emotional moments of the show, and they really are emotional. He is superb

All in all this show is superb. All in all it's a very strong 9/10 for me. As I said at the top, 9/10 for a show with 500 episodes is quite the achievement. Shippuden is a must watch as far as I am concerned, a show with little flaws and moments that you will remember for the rest of your life.

This is one of those childhood anime that is full of memories, but after I watched it thoroughly, I decided not to recommend this anime.

The reason is simple, there are too many flashbacks in each episode, this is the worst motive for stalling time in my opinion. there are a lot of useless episodes but most of them are filled with flashbacks which are very long, long, very long and even take up several episodes.

I don't have a problem with flashbacks from each character, but the problem is the positioning, for example, I was enjoying watching Naruto fight but suddenly I met another character and ...
