'Natsume Yuujinchou' Receives New Episodes for Spring 2021

The Natsume Yuujinchou: Saikai no Tayori livestream program on Niconico announced two new anime episodes adapting Yuki Midorikawa's slice of life supernatural manga on Friday. The cast and staff members will be returning from the previous installations. The new episodes are scheduled to premiere in theaters in early Spring 2021.

Returning staff at animation studio Shuka include Takahiro Oomori (Hotarubi no Mori e) as the chief director and scriptwriter, and Hideki Itou (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk chief animation director) as the director. Sadayuki Murai (Pet) is co-writing the script, and Makoto Yoshimori (Kuragehime) is composing the music.

Brain's Base adapted the manga into four anime seasons in Summer 2008, Winter 2009, Summer 2011, and Winter 2012. The fifth and sixth seasons produced by animation studio Shuka aired in Fall 2016 and Spring 2017. The Natsume Yuujinchou: Utsusemi ni Musubu (Natsume's Book of Friends the Movie: Ephemeral Bond) anime film opened in Japan in September 2018.

Midorikawa began serializing the manga in LaLa DX magazine in 2003 before switching to LaLa in 2008. Hakusensha published the 25th compiled volume on June 5.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English under their Shojo Beat imprint in 2010 and published the 24th volume on June 2.

I just watched this show but was about to drop it because it gets repetitive, but I'm also curious about that backstory that they are slowly releasing like crumbs. I'm glad I watched it till the end and I hope we get more in the future.

I'm very very very happy with this news!!

Natsume Yuujinchou is such a healing story and that is why we are still so "hype" about it all these years down the line.
It makes our hearts smile!

I've watched every single major release of Natsume and even read the manga up to about chapter 80 for this very reason. It got so good in the manga that I had to stop myself because I really want to see it fresh when it is animated. It starts giving insight into Natsume's past and it got me a little shook. I'm tempted to continue reading T_T but I will wait for the day they decide to give us a full season continuing the story.

In the mean time, we will hold on with these 2 episodes. Bring it onnnnnnnn!!!!

Considering the manga is still ongoing and the success of the anime I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a new season when they air these episodes. More Natsume is always welcome ♥
