A new anime season for Daisuke Ashihara's World Trigger manga was announced at Jump Festa 2020 on Saturday. Toei Animation is returning to produce the new season, which will be broadcast on TV Asahi.

Tomo Muranaka, Yuki Kaji, Nao Tamura, Yuuichi Nakamura, and Nobunaga Shimazaki are reprising their character roles as Yuuma Kuga, Osamu Mikumo, Chika Amatori, Yuuichi Jin, and Hyuse, respectively.

Synopsis
When a gate to another world suddenly opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by strange creatures known as "Neighbors," malicious beings impervious to traditional weaponry. In response to their arrival, an organization called the Border Defense Agency has been established to combat the Neighbor menace through special weapons called "Triggers." Even though several years have passed after the gate first opened, Neighbors are still a threat and members of Border remain on guard to ensure the safety of the planet.

Despite this delicate situation, members-in-training, such as Osamu Mikumo, are not permitted to use their Triggers outside of headquarters. But when the mysterious new student in his class is dragged into a forbidden area by bullies, they are attacked by Neighbors, and Osamu has no choice but to do what he believes is right. Much to his surprise, however, the transfer student Yuuma Kuga makes short work of the aliens, revealing that he is a humanoid Neighbor in disguise. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Ashihara began drawing the sci-fi battle action manga in Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2013. The manga returned from a nearly two-year hiatus in October 2018 and switched to the monthly Jump SQ. magazine on December 4 that year. Shueisha published the 21th volume on December 4.

Toei Animation adapted the manga into a television anime that began airing in Fall 2014. The anime was originally listed for 50 episodes, but was later extended to 73 episodes. Toei subsequently produced an English dub with Canada-based company Ocean Production in July 2015.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in 2014 and now simulpublishes the manga through their new Shounen Jump platform. The 19th volume went on sale on October 1.

I can't wait for WT 2 but I hope they buff the mc. He is smart but he's physical strength is just to low. It does not have to make him op but he needs more character development ( physically).

Do we know when the new season will air?

Yes! Finally! It's been a long time since I saw the whole season but WT was good. I don't get why people are saying it doesn't deserve a second season. They might not have an international fanbase but manga sales are pretty good and the fights are always interesting. There's no fan service, no harem, no romance, just pure shonen. Is that what makes this shit? I just can't get people who know nothing but to complain. Well! I still am looking forward to WT

First season was cheap af. "24 minutes" = 19 minutes, ty worthless recap and middle of the episode OP, besides animation composed of sliding. They didn't focus on fights. Close to 2020, repeat time?

Dare be a long runner, otherwise become a small bathroom break.

So many people implored me to not watch the original. It did seem rather slow at first. Maybe my interest will come back now.

YES LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO

I LOVE WT the more I watched the show. Started slow but got BETTER AND BETTER. The potential to be a masterpiece is there. Glad it's coming back.

Even this pile of garbage can get sequel, but Bleach can't get a deserved final season.

this pile of garbage still sales, and has better tv ratings, while bleach didn't. you don't need rocked science to understand that.

also with how much content is made per year, there isnt actually much that will build up every year to keep up with it.

they have done this with kindaichi, (author went sick, then shift to monthly) and they do went seasonal.

also for Toei moaning, they get better last 2 year, mainly because they now get lot of new sponsor (and better managed oversea animator).
ignoring the filler arc, the first world trigger season didnt even look that bad after the invasion arc.

Wonder how many eps it'll be. Toei seemed to be pushing for a long runner before the hiatus, so maybe they'll try to go the Hero Academia route of one or two cours a year. Although the story doesn't really lend itself well to that kind of thing.

A single ranking battle every year!
