New Anime Announced for 'Toei Robot Girls' Project to Air in Jan 2014

In the latest issue of Megami magazine, it was announced that the "Toei Robot Girls" project will get a new anime. It will be called "Toei Robot Girls Z" and consist of nine 10-minute episodes to start airing on Toei Channel from January 2014.

The story revolves around a new team of "Toei robot girls" named "Team Z" that is made up of three girls based on Toei's Mazinger Z franchise: Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and UFO Robot Grendizer. Usually they perform in activities around Nerima ward in Tokyo to raise the awareness of the promising future energy source "Photon Power" (koushiryoku). However, there are times when "Mechanical Beast" team of girls emerge from the "Subterranean Empire" and attempt to steal the energy. Thus "Team Z" has to battle them to prevent this, though sometimes they just go and beat up the "bad girls" to relieve stress.

"Toei Robot Girls" project started life in 2009 with a weekly release of 4-koma manga (which lasted until February 2013). Merchandise and art books were also released over the years. In July 2011, it was adapted into a pilot anime video "Toei Robot Girls" that was based on the robots Baratak, Gakeen, and Gaking.

Ooh, this actually looks like a lot of fun. I love the animation. Time to catch up on some super robot anime so I can pick up on the references.

Sounds like it will be shit and it will be its a pass for me. I prefer traditional mecha anime like Gundam not this.

One has already been released and instead of Gundam-Tan, her name is VVV-Tan. And I see you already gave it a 10/10 ( ¬‿¬)

(Don't worry, I also give it a 10 too though my score might change depending on S2.......really??)

Except that

and the show is incredibly self-aware of the tropes it uses.

If anything, VVV is closer to old-school super-robot shows
