Synopsis

New Sailor Moon anime commemorating the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon.

Usagi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby, but she is full of energy. One day, she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead, and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a sailor-uniformed pretty guardian of love and justice! As a chosen guardian of justice, Usagi seems to have a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the princess.

Meanwhile, the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal, which has immense power. This causes strange events to unfold...

Can Sailor Moon really find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other Sailor guardians, and protect the princess...?!

I just don't know. I wanted to love this. I spent two years hyped for Crystal, ecstatic when it was announced and terrified it wouldn't actually happen every time it got pushed back. After all the excitement and the biblical-proportioned flood of 20th anniversary merchandise, I'm left feeling a little bitter. What went wrong here? Well... kind of everything. Like, pretty much everything.

Let's address the biggest, pinkest elephant in the room from the start: the artwork. I'm not interested in arguing about the style, just the quality. I think what happened here was an ambitious idea (trying to mimic Naoko Takeuchi's elaborate manga style in read more

Far too often people will compare the remake of a show with it's original source. You'll very often hear people completely bashing remakes of shows for the sole fact that it's not what they remember. We all have nostalgia goggles sometimes, but when you take them off and look at something like the Sailor Moon remake, you can see what the show on its own is really offering. And what if offers to itsl dear viewers is a complete pile of abysmal shit.

(This review covers the first arc of the series and will be updated again once the show finishes)

I've given up on Sailor Moon Crystal. As a former avid Sailor Moon fan I made it to episode 17 of this series before just completely giving up. It is downright terrible. The art is ugly and everything is so static it reminds me of a low budget flash animation cartoon. Storywise the pacing is dreadful and you'd think that was because there was too much to fit into this condensed manga-esque chapter structure.. but no, 75% of an episode is Usagi crying or dramatic name shouting.

The characters seem braindead. For dramatic purposes in storytelling you often have to have the characters miss a read more

This review was written from the perspective of someone who is in love with the Manga and the very bitter sweet taste I experienced after finishing these 13 episodes.

While it is true that this first arc main focus is developing the "fairy tale" esc relationship that Usagi and Mamoru have. So when the climax occurs you feel an emotional response to Usagi as she decides ultimately what she has to do. While I feel like the pace they develop this relationship is in sync with how the Manga does it what's missing are the small interactions that strengthen it. This goes for all Characters. read more

The two of these are very similar in terms of genre, plot and quality, but Binan Koukou is almost like a parody--it's very good for those with Sailor Moon nostalgia, or those who have fun laughing at typical magical girl tropes.
In short, it's almost like a mix of Sailor Moon Crystal and Free!, and not to be taken seriously at all. Good downtime watch material.
Very similar in the aspect that both contain magical girls trying to save the world. Also similar as both have a romantic aspect thrown into the mix.. teenage high school girls thrown into a situation they at first don't want to be in/ are afraid of.
*They both contain transformations
*They both are trying to search for a certain item
*They both meets friends and try to relate to each other
*Romance is involved
*Problems that must be fixed in their daily lives

If you like Sailor moon crystal then you'll for sure love Shugo Chara!
Both are magical girl series involving transformations. Both Sailor Moon and Princess Tutu use love and justice to conquer their enemies, although instead of using violence Princess Tutu battles through dance. Both shows contain strong themes of friendship, and the main characters in both have a love interest. Both are suitable for younger audiences but still can be enjoyed by older anime fans.
There are 5 characters in the main cast

There are "enemies of the week" and one main enemy

The main characters have "alter egos" with special powers necessary to defeat evil (Although, JoJo cast do not transform, but summon said egos)

Both are old manga and old anime remade with sharp animation and bright colors. Also, note the 3d in both the openings.

ps: Sailor Jupiter looks like Kakyoin, with wavy pink hair and green uniform.
A legendary shoujo anime, it has a similar animation style and overall similar feeling.
