I think its retaining its quality quite well; it introduces new elements but still boasts its original charm making it love-able from a nostalgia point.
The animation uses a lot of effects which is quite jarring in a sense, but is still solid. Overall I'm enjoying it, even if it doesn't live up to the quality of the original.
