The official website of the Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) television anime revealed two additional cast members on Monday. The anime is set to premiere with a 2-hour special on September 29 at 9:00 p.m. on NTV's Friday Road Show programming block.

Fern: Kana Ichinose (Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou)

Stark: Chiaki Kobayashi (Vinland Saga)

Keiichirou Saitou (Bocchi the Rock!) is directing the television anime at Madhouse. Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) is in charge of the series composition. Reiko Nagasawa is designing the characters, and Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) is composing the music.

Sousou no Frieren adapts Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's fantasy adventure manga, which began serializing in Shounen Sunday magazine in April 2020. Shogakukan shipped the tenth volume on March 16, and the 11th volume is scheduled to be released on September 15.

Viz Media licensed the manga in English in February 2021 and published the eighth volume on June 20. The ninth volume is scheduled to release on October 17.

Why were Tanezaki Atsumi as Frieren? Isn't she more suited for Fern though? I mean, Frieren is supposed to be the boke, with Fern as her tsukomi. I can't really imagine Tanezaki Atsumi voiced a boke character..... On the other hand, Ichinose Kana as Fern?! I don't hate it, but Fern is supposed to be this calm and mostly expresionless tsukomi character (hence why I think of Tanezaki Atsumi), which was not really Kana-san's specialty.
No.. no fern is no match for Atsumi Tanezaki. Atsumi Tanezaki is perfect for cold characters like frieren, such as Vivy, Yoroizuka Mizore, and Futaba Rio. The three characters have almost the same eye design and personality. To be more sure, let's see the broadcast laterđź‘Ť

She's more fitting, she voiced Vivy, who has a very similar personality to Frieren. While Ichinose voiced Sulleta, who is more similar to Fern. Both are very stoic females, but Frieren is in general the wiser one.

She can change her voice brilliantly, hope she will cope with Frieren!

This should easily be one of the best shows of the Fall season.

I also hope for the great adaptation from MADHOUSE with 24-26 episodes!

Not sure but probably what "additional cast members" might mean in this case is that they couldn't make both characters public for anime-only audience on the official website until they could show the voice actor information (both VAs seem to be recently picked).
Are you saying that this is similar to G-Witch, when Miorine was originally announced as the main cast besides Suletta and only then turned out to be the second protagonist? In that case, there is some irony here involving Kana-chan.

Didn't fully remember (even though i anticipated G-Witch) but that seems to be the case.

I did not pay attention to this, I was just confused how they were listed as additional roles.

Great picks for both roles!

Their respective performances in Boogiepop (2019) as Aya and Keiji are what i currently imagine Fern and Stark to sound like.

---

@RobertBobert Yes, but as i remember on the anime page there were no information on the voice actors for them before.

On MAL anime page itself, Fern and Stark (the characters themselves) were not listed, there were only Frieren and one more character (Himmel if i'm not mistaken). On manga page, the trio is always listed as main characters.

Umm, aren't these two the remaining part of the protagonist trio besides the main girl? At least on MAL they are listed as such.
