Light Novel Series '86' Gets TV Anime Adaptation [Update 3/22]
A television anime adaptation of Asato Asato's sci-fi action light novel series 86 (Eighty Six) was announced during a livestream event commemorating the first year anniversary of Kadokawa's light novel recommendation website Kimirano on Sunday.
Synopsis
The Republic of San Magnolia.
For a long time, this country has been besieged by its neighbor, the Giadian Empire, which created a series of unmanned drones called the Legion. After years of painstaking research, the Republic finally developed autonomous drones of their own, turning the one-sided struggle into a war without casualties—or at least, that's what the government claims.
In truth, there is no such thing as a bloodless war. Beyond the fortified walls protecting the eighty-five Republic territories lies the "nonexistent" Eighty-Sixth Sector. The young men and women of this forsaken land are branded the Eighty-Six and, stripped of their humanity, pilot the "unmanned" weapons into battle...
Shinn directs the actions of a detachment of young Eighty-Sixers while on the battlefield. Lena is a "handler" who commands the detachment from the remote rear with the help of special communication.

Dengeki Bunko began printing the military-themed novel series in February 2017. The beginning section of each volume and side stories are serialized in Dengeki Bunko Magazine. The imprint also publishes the side stories on the Kakuyomu website.
Shirabi (Musaigen no Phantom World, Ryuuou no Oshigoto!) is drawing the illustrations, with I-IV (Aldnoah.Zero, Re:Creators) credited for mechanical design. Kadokawa shipped the seventh volume on September 10 last year, with the eighth volume scheduled for release in May. 86 has a cumulative 750,000 copies of its volumes in circulation.
A manga adaptation by Motoki Yoshihara has been serialized in Young Gangan since February 2018. Square Enix published the second compiled volume last year on September 10. Suzume Somemiya is launching a new manga adaptation titled Gakuen 86 (Academy 86) in Monthly Comic Alive magazine.
Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in July 2018 and published the third volume on November 19. The fourth volume is scheduled for a March 31 release. The novel has also been localized in Mandarin by Kadokawa Taiwan and in Korean by Yeongsang Chulpan Media.
86 won the Grand Prize at the 23rd Dengeki Novel Awards in 2016 and placed second and fifth in the 2018 and 2019 editions of Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Rankings, respectively.

hahahah you are a funny guy if you didnt read the light novel of classroom of the elite than shup up plz. you cant judge the whole series from a trash adaptation
Even if an adaptation is awful, you can get a pretty good grasp of the author's approach in the series, and CoE is a very good example of the word "pretentious". The characters, setup, dialogues and specially the progagonist are so edgy and tryhard with their pseudo psichological thoughts and behavior than most of them look straight up chuuni, instead or being "badass" or "cool". The protagonist who looks like he doesn't care about anything is a gary stu that unlike Tatsuya (the other beloved LN protagonist alongside Kirito) just makes you think that the guy is a loser for trying too hard to be mysterious and intelligent. And no, you don't need to read an entire LN to understand the series itself feels like something wrote by an angry teenager.
the MC and many other characters in the light novel are different from the anime + there is much more dialogues and much more understandings to the characters. in other word the anime is so rushed and trying so hard to make the MC look edgy and the other characters like horikita (female MC) in the anime in the final episode she seems to star liking the MC but ofc all of that is bullshit in order to make the anime morre populair because guys like badass and waifus so if you are interested i recommand reading the light novel it s worth and much better. and by the way majority of l the students in the shcool are weirdos and you will know why if you read the LN

Well, I hope this LN doesn´t follow the trend of a few people saying is amazing and then turning out to be a huge disappointment. It happened with Mahouka, then Classroom of the Elite, ToAru and so on...
It´s A-1, so I hope they can adapt it well.

not surprised this got greenlight mainly because the amount of LN trash that gets spit out something decent will end up getting on the big screen regardless
now the question is remain ignorant as anime only or become annoyed if it's a butchered adaptation as someones that read the LN most likely the former since i'm still trying to get through testament

just read the manga and a bit confused by the story, maybe because it has only few chapters. looking at the score and praises everywhere i believe this one have a really good story. hopefully the production team is great
You'd be better off reading the original light novels
