NHK has reported that actor Ren Oosugi suddenly died early morning on Wednesday from acute cardiac insufficiency. He was 66 years old. According to the agency Zacco, the funeral will be held among family and friends.

Born Takashi Oosugi, he was primarily active as an actor since the 1980s and won various awards for his supportive roles. He was featured in the third live-action movie of the Yamikin Ushijima-kun manga, the live-action adaptation of Shin Godzilla, and a live-action drama related to the popular game series Final Fantasy XIV, to name a few. In addition to being an actor, he also voiced Agashi from Giniro no Kami no Agito and Mitsumasa Kido from Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary.

His final blog entry was made on February 18 where he showed that he was happily working without any signs of physical illnesses, except for the night before his death.

Oosugi was also in Shin Godzilla as Prime Minister Seiji Okochi, so he's definitely a familiar face.

Pretty sad that he just died so suddenly like that. Hope it was a peaceful death.

I'm very sure the time he slept, he was looking forward to wake up and work the next day. Sadly, you're not gonna wake up, and there's no work.

RIP

Ohh, he voiced something in FF series... GG FF fags.

He's mainly an actor and MAL wouldn't list his live-action roles for obvious reasons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren_Osugi

Ren Oosugi was one of the most recognizable actors in today's Japanese film and television industry. One example of his many excellent roles is in Final Fantasy XIV: Hikari no Otousan (Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light), which can be watched on Netflix.

An actor who was more known from a lot of mainstream TV dramas and movies, rather than the voice acting and somewhat anime-related roles that are mentioned here.

rest in peace. I'm not sure if this was unexpected or if he was holding back all along, must be painful. I hope those cats in his blog are doing well with him gone.
