In both 2013 and 2014, Kagerou Daze narrowly beat out SAO for the top spot (in 2014's case by barely over 1%). In all other years bar 2009 the top series was by a margin of 10% or more.

With a reasonable sales drop (about 17.5% or so) from the last volume to this one, SAO is suddenly looking almost within striking distance of several other series. Could we be going to see SAO's reign come to an end next year? Will the anime of Alicization give it another boost? Or is it far enough ahead that it doesn't actually have anything to worry about?

*These then exclude stand-alone volumes like Kimi no Na wa. and stuff not published under a LN label like Biblia.
