| Series* with the bestselling new volume published under a light novel label* from the weekly rankings: 2008 - Saiunkoku Monogatari 2009 - Saiunkoku Monogatari 2010 - Toaru Majutsu no Index 2011 - Suzumiya Haruhi Series 2012 - Sword Art Online 2013 - Kagerou Daze 2014 - Kagerou Daze 2015 - Sword Art Online 2016 - Sword Art Online 2017 - Sword Art Online (to date, but will almost certainly stay there) In both 2013 and 2014, Kagerou Daze narrowly beat out SAO for the top spot (in 2014's case by barely over 1%). In all other years bar 2009 the top series was by a margin of 10% or more. With a reasonable sales drop (about 17.5% or so) from the last volume to this one, SAO is suddenly looking almost within striking distance of several other series. Could we be going to see SAO's reign come to an end next year? Will the anime of Alicization give it another boost? Or is it far enough ahead that it doesn't actually have anything to worry about? *These then exclude stand-alone volumes like Kimi no Na wa. and stuff not published under a LN label like Biblia. |
