Second 'Owarimonogatari' Anime Adaptation to Premiere as Special

At the end of the rebroadcast of Owarimonogatari on Saturday, it was revealed that the second installment of the series will premiere as a two-day special on August 12 and August 13, and run for two hours each on Tokyo MX at 7:00 pm, followed by BS11, Tochigi TV, and Gunma TV. Abema TV will also stream the specials.

The adaptation will span for seven episodes, covering the Mayoi Hell, Hitagi Rendezvous, and Ougi Dark arcs from the fifth volume of Monogatari Series: Final Season. The main cast and staff will reprise their roles from the first Owarimonogatari TV anime. ClariS will perform the new ending theme song "SHIORI."

The first Owarimonogatari anime adaptation covered NisiOisiN's third and fourth volume of Monogatari Series: Final Season. The series premiered in Fall 2015 with a total of 12 episodes, and was directed by Akiyuki Shinbou and Tomoyuki Itamura at studio Shaft. Crunchyroll and Daisuki simulcast the series as it aired in Japan.

Oh that does make sense... and then maybe like in Owari Vol 1, one of the 7 episodes will be extended, like the Hitagi Rendevous arc (which I think will only be 1 episode).

The way the article is worded makes it sound like it will ruin for 2 hours on both August 12th and the 13th? Does that mean there would be one long episode one day and then 6 episodes the other day, sort of like Owari Vol 1? I would certainly like this, though it might be dragging out the source material.

In any case, even 2 hours total would be fine. Monogatari is adapted by book, not by arc, and not every arc is the same length. Koyomimonogatari had 12 arcs and was adapted into around 6 episodes, and Kizumonogatari had 1 arc and was adapted into around 8.

Just look at Owarimonogatari Volume 1, i.e. the first seven episodes of Owarimonogatari TV, that also had three arcs. There is nothing to be disappointed about, in fact it would be a horrible adaptation if they gave each arc 4 episodes, everyone would hate it.

I am hyped as ****, but also a little bit disappointed, I thought it would be 12 episodes. Tsuki, Neko and Hana got each 4 episodes and every one of them covers only one arc

It makes a lot of sense why they decided to make this format.

- As far as I'm concerned with the content left in Owarimonogatari, and few people said that this is enough to cover the content that remained from it

- Not only that, Shaft is already packed with so many things recently so it's an good business move to do it (They still got Zaregoto unless I'm mistaken), Sangatsu no Lion, Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka?, and Fate/Extra or Extella, I confuse between the two.

- And @jc9622 pointed the same thing I was going to say... Monogatari + watching it weekly isn't the best thing imo. I'm better off marathoning it or a certain amount of episodes and then wait for more (I mean I marathoned Monogatari and I think it works much better than weekly basis).

ClariS doing the ED is fucking neat so I'm looking forward to that tho :o

Well it's better than a 1-2 hour special. Wish it was a full season but I suppose this could work too. I look forward to it for sure.
