I'm a bit concerned with the choice of director and studio, but I will have faith in them to pull out another great adaptation. If they can stick to the novel's scripts and nail Kino and Hermes' characters right, there shouldn't be much trouble. Every director has their certain gems and I'm hoping this will be the one for Tomohisa.

For those of you worried about Aoi Yuuki for Kino - don't be. Yes, I would LOVE to see Kakuma Ai reprise her role and get to hear her unique voice once more, but it just isn't happening. If you are doubting Aoi Yuuki will perform a good Kino voice, I urge you to check out her role as Yuzuru from A Silent Voice. There were times in that film where I kept hearing a Kino-like voice from her and that helped me gain a bit of trust for her. I think she will do great if she can stick to her deepest natural voice.

Also, an interesting bit of trivia, Aoi Yuuki played Sakura in the original Kino anime. It was her first anime role. Perhaps Kino is a special series to Yuuki then? It's quite a cool coincidence because Sakura idolized Kino and wanted to be just like her when she grew up. Now Aoi Yuuki is basically doing the same and becoming the character she (maybe?) idolized when she was a younger seiyuu.

I really hope this turns out well. This is my favorite classic anime series and novel and frankly I am shocked to see that its actually getting more attention now!

No you don't because it's largely episodic. It would still be beneficial because the first installment teaches you some important backround of Kino. It's also a fantastic show so it's probably worth it either way.

Lerche has some good anime (Assassination Classroom, Danganronpa, Gakkou Gurashi), so I’m expecting the same quality from this. I’m also expecting the action scenes to be good without ruining the overall mood.

Tomohisa Taguchi was involved with “Humanity Has Declined”, so maybe he has some experience with this kind of series.

Also that’s just a new adaptation, not an original anime. Unless the staff decide to go around creating a complete new plot, it will be hard to ruin everything.

I’ll watch either way.

This is going down the drain. The problem with Lerche is that they usually hire directors/scriptwriters which ruin the whole anime. Their artwork is often very beautiful and fitting but the rest of the anime often ends up being lackluster. It seems to be the same this time. What a bummer. Well, there is a slight chance they won't fuck it up so let's hope for that.

My feelings so far, basically. I've got some reservations on the director's end and that doesn't seem like a great studio choice

Yeah, from what I've seen of the art it all looks pretty good, but a lot of the staffing here doesn't make a lot of sense to me, assuming they're trying for the same "vibe" as the original show. I mean, whatever, I'll watch it, but I'm gonna go in with some reserved expectations. Kino's Journey is a pretty self-reflective, introspective show, and while I haven't seen any of this director's work before (as far as I know) it doesn't *seem* like Kino's is like anything he's done in the past. Not that that means he'll do a bad job, but Berserk 2016/17 shows what CAN happen when a director moves out of their comfort zone to work on a beloved series. Oh well, wait 'till more info, I guess

the staff and the studio is good too. love the projects they've been doing. its the persona director. this time he won't have to work with limited source material like twin star. can't wait to see how this is going to be. but since its Lerche i would've prefered Seiji Kishi to do the directing.

- Director: Taguchi Tomohisa (why? what happened with Ryuutarou Nakamura?)

From what I am aware of he died. That's why he's not back around the team here.

Such a lackluster staff; such a disappointment... My deepest condolences Kino.

My expectations for this were low, but now, bottom of the barrel low... At least I hope they will have Keiichi on-board supervising the script-series composition (that'd be nice).

Also, why do we need to have “the Animated Series” in the title? That’s something you usually do for video games based adaptations, or American Superheroes shows). This is minor, but it irks me that they decide to put that in there for some reason, but whatever...

- Director: Taguchi Tomohisa (why? what happened with Ryuutarou Nakamura?) Taguchi did fine with the Persona 3 movies, but I don’t think he is the right choice for this. Also, his latest work as an actual TV director was pretty meh.
- Series Composition: Sugawara Yukie (why?). I don't have anything against this person, but once again, I just don't think he/she is a good fit for this.
- Character Designer: Ryoko Amisaki (ok? I guess?)
- Studio: I don't really care about studios in general to be honest... The quality will depend on the time and budget given to the studio, and animators hire for the project.

The new key poster is nothing more than an illustration (from the author more likely), so until I see the actual anime character designs, I will refrain to comment on that. Yes, it is neat illustrations; still not representative of the quality of the anime.

Anyhow, if this turns out bad, the books are always there to read (not sure if in English though, but I personally don't really care about that).

I loved the first anime of this, hopefully this is just as good or even better. I'm so excited!

Really hope we'll get some new stories and not just the same thing as the 2003 version but with HD animation. Still, that doesn't change the fact that I'm really looking forward to watch it.
I also hope the new staff manages to keep the atmosphere of the old version. It was always the biggest strength of the series.

At least someone from the original staff would've been nice. And the original VA too... These people better not fuck up one of the most legendary series of the early 2000s.

Its sad that it is not SHAFT, but then again SHAFT is overworked as it is. They should not have done the Extella;Zero shit and instead of worked on this instead.

Lerche is decent fit.
And the visual is closer to the gender ambiguity that defines Kino's character.

Sadly the staff is literally made up of nobodies...Director is just okaay-ish(persona 3 movies were decent Persona 4 Golden was uninspiring as all fuck) and the main writer(literally nothng but some SAO episodes) has not worked on much of anything really.

Does not seem like a priority project.
I mean, I love Shaft as much as the next guy, but they got their chance with The Land of Sickness movie, which I personally wasn't impressed by. I'd be pretty afraid that Shaft would really dilute the tone of Kino in a full-length TV series.

Lerche tho...I really don't know. Haven't formed a concrete opinion on them yet myself. This staff lineup is extremely distressing though. Kino's Journey is a really weird source material to translate to anime and I don't trust any of these people to do it justice the way that Nakamura did...
i will wait for a preview before judge the stuff completly. i watched some of their shows and i say it in the decent level

For anyone who is curious to know how Aoi Yuuki would sound like, she has already voiced Kino in the viewer participation drama last year. Link (unsubbed) here.

Ayy Lerche. The original show was good. I like the art in this picture too.

I need to watch the old series asap then.

Coincidentally started the first episode last night but had to stop it.
