The May 2017 issue of Jump SQ has announced that Manga Rurouni Kenshin will receive a new serialization. Titled Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido-hen, the series will begin this Summer. The issue officially releases on April 4.

Rurouni Kenshin is drawn by Nobuhiro Watsuki, and was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump for 28 volumes between April 1994 and September 1999. The series inspired a TV anime that aired from Winter 1996 to Fall 1998 for a total of 98 episodes, as well as several OVAs and specials. An anime film titled Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Ishinshishi e no Chinkonka premiered in December 1997. The manga also received live-action adaptations, including three live-action movies that premiered in August 2012, August 2014 and September 2014, respectively.

There are no mangaka that I've heard of that produced multiple "hit series" in their lives.

Akira Toriyama (Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball)
Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, HunterxHunter)
Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, InuYasha, Rin-Ne)
Hiro Mashima (Rave, Fairy Tail)
ONE (One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100)
Kikyou Azuma (Azumanga Daioh, Yotsuba&!)

Hell the Bakuman duo had that as their second hit. Late, but it's 3 AM and I felt like proving a point on the internet.

I want to be excited, but I don't know whether this is good or bad news. I love how Kenshin ended so if this is just a cheap cash grab, it'll be disappointing.

Anyway regarding Kenshin the second arc wasn't as good as the first, i'm not too excited about this. Well if it's bad i will just pretend it doesn't exist.

Really? I think Kyoto Arc is the best arc in RK.

As for the drawing, I'm glad to see that Watsuki's artwork is still awesome; in fact, I think some of the characters look even better than before.. haha.

I'd argue that Rumiko Takahashi's "Inuyasha" is a hit.
My point is that that there are many mangaka who have produced extraordinary manga that is their only one hit. XD

My bad i guess, i've always thought that the arcs for Kenshin were two, the Kyoto arc and the Jinchū Arc.

I've always connected his arrival to Tokyo with the Kyoto arc.

A shame, the ending was perfect

I just looked att he author other manga and it seems like none of them were popular or really liked, i guess bringing kenshin back is the only way to get people to read his shit.

It's sad, it's like code geass, a perfect ending, no need for a sequel, so when a sequel is announced it just feel like they need money.

But i don't totally depsair, it could actually be good, who knows....

Really? Yoshihiro Togashi? He's the creator of both Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, both of which I'd say are hit series.

I just hope it won't be something like Gunnm where the mangaka removed the ending to make a sequel after 6 years . The sequel was freaking terrible and the new artstyle too.

Holly shit, this is something I didn't expect... :O
One of the most influential manga of all time getting a sequel. Nice

I wonder why some people are so negative about the sequel before they even read it. First of all, it's extremely difficult for a mangaka to produce a "hit series". If you've read "Bakuman", you know that success as a mangaka is not easy. There are no mangaka that I've heard of that produced multiple "hit series" in their lives.

It's not uncommon for mangaka to reopen a series after years of hiatus (eg, Dragon Ball, Berserk, Glass Mask, etc).

I'm super excited about the new arc because my favorite character (Seta Soujiro) will reappear. Also, as Watsuki said, Kenshin will still be the main character.

I want infinite RK and I don't want the new arc to be too short, either. There are also so many things that Watsuki can bring to us, such as, he can give us short stories about Kenshin's 10 years of wandering, or show us what happens on Soujiro's journey. I'm very interested.

When you have the chance of being one of the few Weekly Shônen JUMP mangaka out there that achieved in concluding decently your long running series of the golden age JUMP, I find it stupid to want to re-open it. Especially when the concerned title was starting to wear out its welcome during the Jinchû chapter (yes, I'm talking about those fights).
I really wonder in wich part is its publisher responsible for this decision...

Anyway, since this is already settled the question is: what will be the mutants casted for this new chapter ?

I hope so, too! Hopefully Japan will re-release the manga WITH the new arc.

Does anyone know many chapters the Hokkaido arc will be?

Mar 31, 2017 5:35 AM by EternityWish

Woah seriously? That's awesome news. The manga ended wonderfully though, so I wish that this is a backstory more than anything. Maybe an expansion of Trust and Betrayal or something lol.

So excited!!!
I can't wait to see Seta Soujiro again!

If you wanna start RK, read the MANGA first! That's where the story is. The anime is full of fillers. Read the manga first, then the anime and live-action movies ^^

I was just thinking of watching the anime last week.
