A website launched by Aniplex on Thursday has announced the "Project Altair" anime. An announcement video has revealed partial staff for the project. Director Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan) will helm the project at studio MAPPA. A special stage for the anime project will be held during AnimeJapan 2017 on March 25, 2017.

Although the official website and the Twitter account do not explicitly state, the visuals and the titles of the project suggest that the anime project is an adaptation of Shoukoku no Altair, an adventure fantasy series by Kotono Katou. It began serialization in Shounen Sirius magazine in July 2007 and currently has 17 volumes in print. The 18th volume will be published by Kodansha on January 17, 2017.

HOLLYY SHITTT!! HYPE!!

I am really hope it was Shoukoku no Altair anime.
Probably one of the best manga that I have ever read!
Well, they got directors of Gundam UC, Rorouni Kenshin & Hunter X Hunter, pretty excited!
Let's hope MAPPA bring their A-Game for this.

High possibility if you look at the teaser structure buildings and art style its 100% probability chance of Shoukoku no Altair being adapted as anime. Although then again if not but it would still be in the Shoukoku no Altair universe such as the Kusanagi.

That moment when you've been avoiding the manga about the ottoman empire, to which your nation was enslaved for 500 years, and it gets an anime...I've heard it's a good manga, tried to read it, but just couldn't...

You want a Nazi Germany Altair spin-off then?. I've read several mangas that I general don't like much similarity to that "grudge" but in the good that manga came off a good positive impression coming from me.

MAPPA announced a whole bunch of new projects recently and at least the first seasons of Bahamut and Garo showed that they can do fantasy quiet well. Shoukoku no Altair is on my PTR for a while and it will be interesting to see what they do with the adaption.

Can't wait and least is not the Studio Clowns.....

How the heck are they going to do the art style from the manga, they will straight up butcher it in the anime.

Not reading/watching something just because of a historical grudge is rather... silly.
And, this manga is a fantasy. It's just loosely based on the actual Ottoman Empire, and with many fantasy elements added to it, hell, even the WW1 is part of its storyline (of course, changing a few things to satisfy the fantasy of the story).
You know, instead of not reading this just cause of this "grudge", give it a try for its story, its fantasy, its art.

I actually tried to read the manga around a year ago. I'll watch the anime when it comes out

Kazuhiro Furuhashi is going to direct this? Nice. I hope the anime will be in the same format as Gundam Unicorn or Rurouni Kenshin OVAs.

An accidental kiss and then
that's not in any way believable.
The kiss was not accidental though. Plus
. Their relationship was left quite open for interpretation. Even the original creator said that people can think what they want of the situation. The romance flowed naturally (even some of the staff said this) but the romance was never supposed to be the main point. This is why IMO it works and it felt quite natural. Of course it isn't that realistic but it's close. A lot is left to viewers interpretation. This is just my own opinion of course but I don't think that it was never badly executed. The show just doesn't show the background of it that much.

Yuri on Ice has its problems, but badly executed romance is not it~

Its no worse than all the straight pairings :)

Probably. Remember, Yuri on Ice is anime original and was Sayo Yamamoto's first own project. I had quite a bit of expectations for it because of her previous work but to be honest in hindsight it was probable to fail because she didn't have the experience in writing her own story. So it ended up being insanely rushed, which is probably the biggest weakness of the series.

Yeah and while the ice skating sequences are beautiful (best thing about the show) the rest just doesn't live up to it with badly executed romance etc.

Yep, agreed.

Let's be honest, MAPPA got all the money from Yuri on Ice to make new anime. I have no doubt it sold good, now they have the budget to go wild with animating stuff.

It will probably sell well, yes.
