'Overlord' Movie Announced

The wraparound band on the 11th volume of light novel Overlord, which will go on sale tomorrow on September 30, will announce that the series will receive an anime movie to recap the TV anime.

Overlord is written by Kugane Maruyama with illustrations by so-bin, and was initially serialized as a web novel in September 2010. It began publishing under the Enterbrain label in July 2012. A manga adaptation drawn by Fugin Miyama has been serialized in the Comp Ace magazine since November 2014. The series previously received a 13-episode TV anime adaptation by studio Madhouse in Summer 2015.

Why would they release a recap movie indeed?

I suspect this is a prelude for season 2. When Season 1 has been aired a substantial amount of time ago, it's quite likely that before they air Season 2 they would do some form of recap.

For example, before Attack on Titan season 2 was announced, they did two recap movies. Before Jojo Stardust was aired, they did a bunch of recap OVA of the previous season aired years ago.

I personally think that this is quite a good sign with a lot of potential developments on the horizon.

Well...my hopes got WAY up and then kinda fell once I read it was only a recap movie.

I'm still curious about it, but surprised they'd do a recap movie rather than do a movie about the Lizardmen or something. I feel like the lizardmen part would make an interesting movie, even if Momonga isn't the main focus of it.

Though, if I had to vote on what I'd LOVE to see turned into a movie...has to be Volume 9. ^^

I've rewatched the tv series, Will have to watch this when it comes out and perhaps rewatch it as well, Such a shame its only a movie :l I Need more >_>

I am so happy to hear that more is coming out, and with the dub coming maybe there will actually be merchendise that I can get my hands on. I want to give this series money but it is quite difficult so far.

it worked because it sold well

people dont know anything about adpations anyways. just because it wasn't a shitty 1:1 adaption doesnt mean it was bad.

The point is, most adaptations, good or bad, suffer from time limitations of current shitty 13/24 format and trying to squeeze a whole season into a movie format just make it worse.

It'd be nice if they included the details they left out from the LN and erase some imperfections from here and there.

I'm a little happy that Overlord's getting a movie despite it being a recap. I guess it saves time since I'm having the urge to rewatch almost every anime I love including this. Seeing Albedo again is a plus, too~

Recap movies are completely pointless, and this one will be no exception. Just do a second season or a movie that actually adapts new stuff instead rather than cramming it all into one movie and making a rushed mess of a movie.

Atleast this means a sequel is 99% guaranteed and the movie BD will come with a extra novel.
