The official website announced that anisong performer Kouji Wada has passed away on the morning of April 3 at the age of 42. His family announced that his cause of death was cancer in his upper pharynx and has already conducted a private funeral. Wada was first diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and he had recovered in 2005. The cancer reoccurred in 2011 and spread to his lymph nodes. In October 2013, after a 2-year hiatus, Kouji Wada returned to work after treating the cancer.

Wada debuted in 1999 when he first sang Butter-Fly, the theme song for Digimon Adventure. He continued to perform theme songs for the Digimon franchise and recently remastered his theme songs for Digimon Adventure tri. before passing away.
