As mahouka was being talked about earlier

volume 11 sold 103k after 9 days
volume 12 has sold 107k after 11 days

Volume 11 was perhaps the bestselling volume ever from just the data from when it ranked (as opposed to yearly or half yearly bestseller lists), but it doesn't look like there's any real sales increase for volume 12.

To be honest though, any sales boost that does come from the announcement would probably mainly affect earlier volumes rather than new ones anyway.

Some follow on sales for Golden Time 7 as well but it doesn't seem to have a huge anime boost:
50 **5,595 *20,862 2013/10/10 Golden Time 7

Not exactly huge sales which is too bad. Not sure we can compare to the recent side story volume AFRICA but maybe a bit of a boost compared to that:
35 **7,821 *14,483 2013/08/10 Golden Time Retsuden AFRICA

Side-story volumes typically don't sell as well as the numbered volumes and that's the case for Golden Time. So it would be better to compare volume 7 with the previous numbered volumes, even if they are much older:
12 *17,204 *17,204 2013/04/10 Golden Time 6 (5 days)

and

26 *11,626 *27,006 2012/09/07 Golden Time 5 (10 days)
21 *15,380 *15,380 2012/09/07 Golden Time 5 (3 days)

The cutoff line for Golden Time 6's second week was at 5,501 copies sold, so it's fairly probable that volume 6 sold 3k-4k copies during that week (and would thus have sold roughly as much, if not more than volume 7 in two weeks).
Too bad really, as it is quite enjoyable but it seems not the right formula for high sales at this time in either medium.

It is ranking which is something as there are tens or hundreds of light novels that came out at the same time which didn't rank at all of course but I thought the anime with creator connections like that would get a boost.

I haven't seen an image of how the weekly LN sales look like, such as for BD/DVD... but it'd probably be useful to have that "days on sale" column in the data as we can see on 2ch. Example for Highschool D×D 16:

オリコン 2013年10月14日~2013年10月20日 文庫(2013年10月28日付)
*9位 **位 *1回 *22,008部 *22,008部 13/10/19 ***2日 ハイスクールD×D 16 課外授業のデイウォーカー
Actually those guys in 2ch did some extra work to add the "number of days on sale" data (they put it there only for titles which have been out for sale for less than 1 week IIRC) because that piece of data is not available in Oricon. You have to deduce it from the publication date.

As for whether to add such data in the chart here in MAL, let me give it some consideration.

Thanks. Mecasonic is pretty quick in posting this as the data were out by less than 10 hours.

I hope Mecasonic is reading this. I believe the title of the post is not correct:

should be
Weekly Oricon Rankings (Bunko): 14/10/2013~20/10/2013

Perhaps this is why NeoAnkara got confused about the days HDxD's sales were accumulated.
They fixed it.

You see the publish date as Oct 19, right? And you know the week the list covers - past week it was Oct 7 - 13 (the title of this news thread) so this week it is Oct 14 - 20. Now do the simple maths...

ANN has this week's manga up and LNDB has this week's LNs including High School DxD 16 and some additions for others.

21st book of baccano still managing to rank in the top 10 in its first week is nice. Sales look small compared to bigger titles from Dengeki Bunko though.

My point is that big boost from anime announcement is limited and small. Surely compared to the boost provided by anime actually being aired, the scale could be very different. As I said, there are people who would buy the LN/manga to get themselves prepared before the anime actually starts airing, but the number would not be that many compared to people actually get their interests piqued by the sound and visual coming from the anime.

While people talk about anime announcement boost (which I don't think really exist)

I'm fairly sure it does exist, even if it is comparatively small. After all, having an anime announced is a form of advertising as it makes more people aware of the series, or think about the series whereas previously they wouldn't and more people doing these mean more people buying it.

Also it gets the people who are already reading it to suddenly start talking about it more, and this word of mouth voluntary advertising is by far the most effective way to get someone interested in a work of fiction.

Of course, the effect of that depends on how much attention people in Japan pay towards these announcements, but from what I've seen the Japanese anime fanbase pays quite a lot of attention to them.

Oct 22, 2013 9:58 AM by kuuderes_shadow

NouCome hadn't ranked until volume four when the anime was announced. Coincidence? Five didn't rank but six did when the anime came out.

RDG volume 4 came out in bunko format before the anime started and ranked.

When did SnK sales take off, when announced or when it started airing?

Oct 22, 2013 9:50 AM by hpulley

While people talk about anime announcement boost (which I don't think really exist) I wonder more about actual anime boost - for example are we seeing more sales for Yozakura Quartet?

Oct 22, 2013 9:06 AM by symbv

Yay, all the top 3 manga listed are series I follow. Nice to see them up there. I'm really hoping Ansatsu Kyoushitsu will get a full anime series.
