I was really surprised that Utapri sold THAT many

Well the live event ticket application was for a really popular song amongst female fans. Not to mention how much female fans love things with their favourite male seiyuu being involved in it. I didn't think the live event ticket boost would be this big though.

v2+ will drop by half at the minimum. It depends whether UtaPri gathered 2x as many fans as S1... or the song was just so popular that it'll drop back down to 13k or so for v2+.

Me too. I know event ticket boosts sales but I didn't really expect this one would be this strong.

When you put it that way, it makes it pretty hard to decide whether to be grateful or to be irritated by them. Well, I guess the best choice would be tolerance.
Personally I won't be grateful to them. I just treat them as by-product of a show getting attention and fans, because with fans there are always haters following along. (and an "air show" has no fan, which means no hater as well) Irritation is a normal and reasonable reaction, particularly if the haters are not providing sensible or thoughtful criticism but instead throwing cliched rant words that sounds like criticism but in fact superficial emotion reactions. Tolerance is good, but I would say it is also good not to be tolerant towards intolerance ;-)

As the saying goes, every successful show has its fair share of haters ;-) Look at the most popular shows - Bake, Madoka, Seed, IS, Macross Frontier, Ano Hana, SAO, K-On all have huge number of haters, and the list goes on and on... At the end it is better to have haters than no attention at all (the so-called "air shows") - Indifference is arguably the bigger enemy because even though haters do not buy anything, at least they generate some noises LOL LOL

Really sad that majestic prince did indeed flop. sigh...guess the midway boost didn't do much. On the contrary, I'm glad that Gargantia is doing well and getting a nice boost from the ending. I share a little of the frustration similar to Kaoshin-sama but overall I still feel happy that it's doing well. Since it successfully messed with my emotions and played around with some interesting moral and social dilemas, I think it deserves the good sales. Although Valvrave seems to be doing well, I can't help but worry about the drop after the final episode. I wonder how much it will affect sales. A little sad that the two last episodes didn't do much to improve sales or place it on par with Gargantia but oh well.

btw, I thought only Valvrave have been given that hater treatment but it seems that even Gargantia is not exactly free of them. (only had time to post on one thread) How hard is it to satisfy those critics anyway? >_<

^^^ If people went out and bought 45000 copies more of all 8 volumes then that would be good, would likely at least make it break even. Just on one volume, that won't amount to a lot. If it can hold that sales increase for the next few volumes it will help.

Just interesting that both had ending montages which contained a preview of what the next season would contain if there was one. Two poor sellers in the same season using the same tactic...

... and both fetish mangas.

For more details on Aku no Hana manga sales, quoting from a post from a previous thread:

kuuderes_shadow said:
Incidentally, in its first 3 days, Aku no Hana vol 7 sold 19k copies. It had only sold 40k after 10 days.
In its first 3 days, Aku no Hana vol 8 has sold 44k copies.

Even if the anime itself is a disaster, it's at least brought attention, which has led to an increase in manga readership.

And in the second week, Aku no Hana vol 8 went on to sell another 45k, making the sales 89k before disappearing from the Oricon ranking:

17. *45,048 *,*89,036 Aku no Hana Vol.8

For a fetish manga I would consider it doing really well, even if it is not one of those great hit >100k sellers.

Thanks for finding the Aku no Hana manga sales, jmal. Doubled, eh? I'm surprised but happy for them.

Thanks, symbv. As I said the site was down when I checked. Must have that ED though...

If the manga can make the Oricon list it is not really that low in the first place. Just look at Crime Edge.. I have been searching high and low for its sales to no avail...

As for the CD in Crime Edge BD, I don't think v1 and v2 have any ED. Vol.1 is radio and some net broadcast messages. Vol.2 is special voice messages from Iwai-chan. Both are according to the contents listed in the official anime website. Contents from vol.3 and beyond not listed yet .

I liked Crime Edge but not enough to buy the discs. Contrary to some, I absolutely loved episode 6. If the anime had ended at that point on that high note I would have bought it but the next section lost me a little bit, then picked up at the end. The montage at the end has me wanting to know what happens. Ironically since I know the sales are poor and expect that this means no more anime seasons I opted to order all of the manga volumes instead of the discs.

That said, if the ED for episodes 1, 6 and 13 "Glass no Mikazuki (硝子の三日月)" by Iwai Mushanokouji (CV: Kotori Koiwai) ends up on a BD+CD only combo then I will need to buy that disc as I absolutely love that song and so far I haven't seen it on the ED CD which only has the ED for the other episodes. If it ends up on a soundtrack or character song CD which is separate, all the better. Otherwise I will need to buy disc 3 with episode 6 and may do so anyway as I did love it. Weird to buy just one disc but it was one of my favorite episodes out of any show this season.

If anyone knows if Glass no Mikazuki is on the CD with BD1, please let me know as it might have been on it. Amazon doesn't say what's on it and the Crime Edge anime web site's details page for BD1 gives a Cloudflare error, never a good sign... hopefully just maintenance...

---

But at least I'm buying the manga! Aku no Hana anime really doesn't make me want to buy the manga. I think people who already like the manga are OK but as an ad for the manga itself, I will have to track the sales as I wonder if it will have any positive effect or not. I will watch Crime Edge manga sales as well, assuming it has ever ranked.

I don't get the sympathy people have for Crime Edge. I could only enjoy it when I was watching it as a self parodying comedy due to how stupid it was a lot of the time. I would honestly be more suprised if it did well. Plus it is a part of the horror genre, which at least in my exprience isn't one of the best selling anime genre's out there.
Sympathy comes when a series that should be able to sell 1-2k ended up selling only 0.3k. As I said before, we never think it will do well, but not doing well but sold 2k is quite different from not doing well selling 0.3k. And your theory about horror not selling cannot explain the 0.3k sales of Crime Edge -- Another definitely sold significantly more than that for example.

Ore Imo sold well I guess. Although I am pretty sure that the show has quite a drop from it's season 1 sales. I am guessing(if I am not mistaken here about the drop) it is probably something to do with the shows little emphasis on comedy, which could scared off the parts of the fanbase who watched it for the shows humour. Either way it sold well, so I'm quite happy.

I wonder what the rank order and sales numbers 2ch will predict for this week for BD/DVD. It's usually up on the sales thread around 12~2pm on Tuesday, labelled as "SSBD" and "SSDVD".
No, no no... That is not 2ch prediction, but another sales survey chart similar to Oricon but done by another company called Sound Scan (hence the SS abbreviation in SSBD and SSDVD). They came out before the Oricon numbers, so it is often used as a prelude for discussion before the more widely recognized Oricon chart is out.

Ohh, i've always been wondering what these numbers were... so I assumed they were predictions or something. Thanks for the correction. Yeah I know about Sound Scan... just didn't click in my head that SS meant Sound Scan.

symbv said:
2ch is just a forum and there is no polling mechanism (unlike MAL for example) so any "2ch prediction poll" like the seasonal one will have to be organized by individual user who is dedicated to the cause -- it is just too much work for such prediction poll to be organized there week in week out....

That sounds logical.

While we are at it, I will also make a call that Valvrave, Date A Live and OreGairu will all cross 8k for its BD+DVD sales. On the other hand, HenNeko may end up making 5-6k (despite its 8k BD+DVD Stalker prediction)

^ The 27k Stalker BD+DVD prediction is clearly an underestimate. The question is how much bigger than this. 30k should not be a problem at all, though I am not sure if it will make over 35k. I guess my call is 30-35k...
