| Yeah as far as single studios go Sunrise had an amazing 2014. One statistic many people probably won't even notice unless they look for it though is when you add up all the numbers the last Gundam Unicorn volume actually did a fair bit better than the Madoka movie as a result of the BD/DVD split with it again crossing the 200,000 threshold. Of course all of this is absolutely nothing compared to Frozen but that's just the difference between the Japanese animation industry and Disney. One kind of nice thing to see was Kaze Tinchu having decent numbers. Personally I vastly preferred Takahata's Kaguya Hime but at least one of the two men had a successful last hurrah. If you want to put it another way the top 2 publishers for anime this year will AGAIN be Aniplex and Bandai Visual with everyone else a VERY distant third. Another interesting thing is the several highly successful products they collaborated on like Gintama (Animated by Sunrise which is owned by Bandai but published and marketed by Aniplex) and iDOLM@STER (Animated by A-1 but owned and promoted by Bandai). There's other connections too between the too companies like Bandai making games for stuff like SAO and Madoka Magica as well as contributing some animation through Sunrise for both but not as obvious as the other ones. My question is how does anybody else ever really compete with that as a publisher and content provider. The next biggest one based in Japan is probably Pony Canyon but they'll have to wait till Titan is back to really make a splash again. |

If you want to put it another way the top 2 publishers for anime this year will AGAIN be Aniplex and Bandai Visual with everyone else a VERY distant third. Another interesting thing is the several highly successful products they collaborated on like Gintama (Animated by Sunrise which is owned by Bandai but published and marketed by Aniplex) and iDOLM@STER (Animated by A-1 but owned and promoted by Bandai). There's other connections too between the too companies like Bandai making games for stuff like SAO and Madoka Magica as well as contributing some animation through Sunrise for both but not as obvious as the other ones. My question is how does anybody else ever really compete with that as a publisher and content provider. The next biggest one based in Japan is probably Pony Canyon but they'll have to wait till Titan is back to really make a splash again. To make a comparison, how much Frozen sold (in Japan)? ^^ |

They do count overseas sales in a separate ranking i'm guessing, but i've never seen such a ranking released. |

The first and second volume set consisting of 12 episodes will be released on March 18 and July 22 2015 respectively. Granted, from the history of Madhouse' DVD sales, I am not that hopeful that it would even crack at 2015 list. The only profitable studio based on disc sales and merchandises are Sunrise, Shaft, KyoAni and Ufotable (if they release something). |

Obviously because this is the 2014 yearly sales, it is not cumulative sales. It covers the period of 2013/12/09 to 2014/12/07. Gundam UC Vol.6 was released on 2013/03/22, so unless it has an incredible boost along the track, it had no chance of charting in the 2014 yearly. It follows for Vol.5 and earlier. |
