I have a question!

Does Oricon only count storefront sales and Amazon's pre-orders? Or do they count the sales from multiple factors?

Jan 21, 2014 3:24 AM by Xinception

^ Are we looking at the same chart because chuuni is not on the top 10 on the recent chart. I think it was just two days where chuuni all volumes are in the top 10. Or are you talking about volume one only?
I hope it would chart more the next few days.

Anyways, new thread coming up.

Jan 21, 2014 1:35 AM by volare1

I'm also expecting chuuni to drop a bit and go high on other stores (HMV,animate) but looks like it is ranking quite low for a few days. The first days, sure, it ranked high. But I'm surprised other titles like arpeggio, monogatari and shingeki are above it and not consistent. Particularly HMV. Nisekoi HMV boost is understandable but still surprised it is above chuuni yesterday. It seems buyers are on a wait-and-see approach or go full storefront for chuuni. Speaking of nisekoi lmao it ranked on animate on its first day. It also seems nisekoi buyers are considering store exclusives or might go storefront as well.

Slow day for preorders today. Seems like SYD and Nisekoi have been quiet on the top. Hozuki, Noragami and Nisekoi manga having good anime boosts these past few days.
Still can't predict numbers for now. Too early and unstable.

Hoping for K-on box set to topple Madoka at least on amazon but rebellion is too strong. Also Magi creeping up on top 100. I hope to see good numbers next week for another season of the show.

I guess I've worked on this as much as I can this weekend. Sales data has a new home:

Awesome! This makes accessing data sooo much easier so I guess something good came out of the Mania downtime. I hope it comes back up though. I miss reading posts on sales/speculations.

Series Data - Quick View looks great. Will definitely be using that a lot. Thanks jmal.

It's just that, with all the cult and the fanbase The Idolm@ster has in Japan, i thought the movie had at least a chance of coming close to it. But either way i'm just happy with the release of the movie.

Main difference is that mostly just otaku will go see an Idolmaster movie, while the K-ON! movie was very popular in the mainstream as well, as something that could be enjoyed by parents and children and was pretty self-contained. Same deal with AnoHana crossing ¥1bn. Madoka is a little harder to explain but never underestimate Aniplex' marketing strengths. Madoka got a lot of attention in mainstream press back when it aired so I guess a broad range of people went to see the movie.

I think somewhere between ¥500-700m for the Idolmaster movie, assuming it's well received.

I see, that explains it. Well, the good thing is that they are making the movie, and i'm sure it's going to be well received by its fans. Thank you very much for answering.

By the way, i really need to watch the "K-ON!" movie. I just don't have enough time for all the anime i wanna watch :(

By the way, I know "The Idolm@ster" movie it's expected to be a big hit, but just exactly how big? Like, at the same level of the "K-ON!" movie? Bigger? Lower?
K-ON level? That's setting the bar a bit high lol. Since Mania is down I can't check the numbers, but the K-ON movie sold over 100k ( or was it over 150k? I forget ) discs and was one of the highest grossing late night anime movies IIRC. I think it was recently passed by the Madoka 3 movie ( meaning I believe K-ON held the record previously ). Not sure if there were any other anime movies that passed it that are in the late night category.

jmal is the person to ask for these kinds of things though lol.

I hope it does well though. I <3 me some idolmaster but it sucks that I have to wait like 6-8 months for the disc + sub :(

Yeah, i know the tremendous success of the "K-On!" movie.

It's just that, with all the cult and the fanbase The Idolm@ster has in Japan, i thought the movie had at least a chance of coming close to it. But either way i'm just happy with the release of the movie.

And indeed, the waiting for the Blu-Rays sucks.

^ Yeah Madoka is the highest grossing late night anime currently according to available numbers and stats. Took them a couple of months before surpassing K-on. Impressive to be honest. If there's other articles suggesting its not, then feel free to correct me since many people here are Kyoani/k-on fans from the looks of it and might want to defend the franchise.
Maybe it would take years before someone will surpass Madoka.
I predict Im@s will go Nanoha movies level of hit. I' m excited for the movie actually. Its been soo long for another Im@s anime.

This season is the season of cuteness and rom-com. So far, Chuunibyo S2, Saki S2 and SYD* have been floating in the top 100 when new episodes come out, at lowest they fall to the 200-300 range. We've seen Engaged to the Unidentified, Sakura Trick, World Conquest, Nisekoi and Sonico (although it's because of the figma) flying up to the top 50/top 100 and at lowest (currently) they hang at the 100 -250 range. I get that this is quite early in the season, but this has to be some sort of indicator, right?

......... And I am loving every single minute of this season!

Hell yeah!. And don't forget "The Idolm@ster" Movie, that comes out this month.

Svezda and Nisekoi weekly boosts. It would be funny to be for those two going up and down every Saturday lolol. There's aniplex shop as well.
SYD boosted earlier last night too.
Yamakan and WUG fans might be waiting for a spark in the show I believe. They might be hesitating right now because of the haterage, criticism and Yamakan's mouth not shutting up!
I'm excited for kill la kill's aniplex bump if it could go 1k or not for now and not the winter season's show. Nonbiyori is showing no signs of giving up to it though.
Aaaand welcome gatchaman again to the top 100. Its been a long time heh.

Perhaps the fans are still wondering how the story will unfold? Some powerful concert in ep 03 or 04 should be perfect to turn the tides.
True, the movie ends nicely with the debut concert with lots of nice animated skirt twirling / pantsu flashing while we are still sort of waiting for that kind of moment in the series. And yes, it really is like episodes 1-2, honestly anyone who watches "episode 1" without watching the movie is going to be confused.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is high but it is close to release date so it doesn't have many points. Could be underestimated though.

I'm happy that Sakura Trick is doing alright. Hope it continues.

No-Rin episode 2 didn't do a lot for me but it is ranking well.

While the series discs aren't that high, the Wake Up Girls movie is sitting at #21 and has a decent number of points too. Actually a bit strange that the series is sitting at around #232 while the movie is so high.

I'm viewing the movie as Vol. 1, since its essentially the first 2 episodes (it even releases exactly a month before the TV series, so it fits a normal release schedule). Its normal for 2nd volumes to be far behind the first volume.

Congratulations for you leaving.

Lull/NagiAsu boost again. Wow this show. The thresholds are the only thing blocking volume 1 from charting.
K-on bluray box new edition has been going up this morning. I'll not be surprised if it overthrows the Madoka movie at number 1 spot later this evening. Will it hold its ground there? It would be interesting.

Nice that Aikatsu is on the list. Maybe in the furute when sunrise begin with the BD, they will sell as good as DVD.
