We're at the point where many of the currently airing seasonals have at least two episodes out or maybe three or more. As always, I realize that there are many people who don't watch any series while they're still airing because they don't like watching week to week or whatever their particular reason. And some who may only watch one or two new series at a time, who this also might not apply to. But for those who have been in the seasonal game and watching a decent amount, or at least enough to have dropped anything, this question is chiefly for you. I've dropped series after 30 episodes and I've dropped them after 30 seconds or less. I don't adhere to any "three episode rule" or "four episode rule" or anything of the kind. So unless you're waiting for a certain amount of episodes to be released which haven't yet before going ahead with dropping, there may be some you've already ditched cold. Questions: 1.) Which series have you dropped thus far? 2.) Why? (If you feel like sharing) 3.) Also, are there any series (from the current season) which you haven't started yet but are contemplating or debating starting or not? (Maybe this also can provide some suggestions or the slight push someone needs to try out a particular new series) For me, I'm watching/have watched (for any series already ended) 11 new series (Ruri no Houseki, Leviathan, Clevatess, Turkey!, Ame to Kimi to, Ginga Tokkyuu Milky Subway, Hotel Inhumans, Futari Solo Camp, Fermat no Ryouri, 9: Ruler's Crown, and Mizu Zokusei no Mahoutsukai) - down from 16 last season, two returning series (Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon season 2 and Arknights season 3), and three continuing two cour series from the spring season (Kijin Gentoushou, Uchuujin Muumuu, and Summer Pockets). Which, if you look it as a total of 16, actually makes it a comparable number with what I watched last season with all the continuing/returning ones. Just several less new, for now anyway. Ones I dropped quick while testing the waters before even adding to my list would be Tsuihousha Shokudou e Youkoso!/Welcome to the Outcast's Restaurant (after one episode) and Nyaight of the Living Cat (after two episodes). So two. Ones I've considered and am debating whether to start or not are Food Court de, Mata Ashita and Takopii no Genzai for new series. And Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt season 2 for returning ones (obviously, I have already seen the first season). If anyone who has seen any or all of those and wants to weigh in with an opinion on that, I'd welcome such. Of course I also debated getting into Witch Watch later into last season and never got around to it yet. Bare it all. |

I am on the verge of dropping Yofukashi no Uta Season 2. It is a good question why did I take it up again in the first place in this already stacked season when I had given a fairly low score to its first season, most likely because seeing in its trailer some of the characters whose design I liked in the past it made me feel nostalgic for its good points and I decided to give it a chance again. I might have to reconsider it, because I am barely able to keep up with the eleven anime I am watching in this season, that is twice as many than my usual load. I have already started Takopii no Genzai and The Summer Hikaru Died but these were originally not on my radar and I arrived late to the party (two episodes were already out when I started them). Both of them got recommended to me from different places and I am glad that I picked them up even though I had so little time, these are definitely offer more than I would have thought just based on their descriptions. They are not perfect, but far better directed and animated compared to the usual seasonal shows. |

Yeah, I gave the first season a 5/10 and am not continuing with the series at this point (probably never will), so not watching this second season. It's one of multiple series returning in the lineup this summer of which I am not watching because I saw the first season, liked it well enough to continue specifically that and not drop it midstream, but not enough to want to continue with the series beyond that. In the specific case of Yofukashi no Uta, I like the interspecies romance (human + vampire) which I am nearly always onboard with, the more Slice of Life downtime moments, and the nighttime aesthetic. But I never really cared for how uninteresting and shallow a lot of the characters and their dialogue comes off apart from that. Feels like they have a great premise as well as a nice setting (not whichever city they reside in itself but just the less common change from day to night) and great visuals and art direction, but squander and fail to capitalize on and do anything of note with it. |

I'm still kinda playing the catch up game. There are around 25 shows I'm interested in but I've started only 10 so far. I might add to this post later on. 1.) I haven't dropped anything yet but I consider dropping Nyaight of the Living Cat. 2.) The show is kinda ugly (I'm fine with the 3D cats), the directing is clunky and it occupies this akward spot where you can't take anything seriously but it's not funny either. 3.) Right now this is more a matter of time rather than being unsure whether to start something else or not |

Already off to a really bad start this season... https://myanimelist.net/anime/60315/Dekin_no_Mogura https://myanimelist.net/anime/57433/Seishun_Buta_Yarou_wa_Santa_Claus_no_Yume_wo_Minai https://myanimelist.net/anime/60489/Takopii_no_Genzai https://myanimelist.net/anime/60732/Mizu_Zokusei_no_Mahoutsukai https://myanimelist.net/anime/58197/Nyaight_of_the_Living_Cat I only started off with 9 this season, and there's two more just barely passed the 3 eps test, that are going to have to get a lot better if I am going to make it through the season. Summer '25 is looking like a big old flop. Well there is one series I haven't been able to catch yet. New Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt has a chance to be a saviour. Too bad it's only on Prime and I refuse to do business with those turds. |

Haven't dropped anything so far but maybe will drop Gachikuta. Haven't separated itself from generic battle shounen slop at all. Already watching 18 animes this season and weekends are specially packed. With Bunny girl senpai add soon after I start watching that. Not much time left for same bs shounen crap. Also planned to watch Kaiju 8 S2 but heard manga ending is shit with no progress among Kafka & Mina. So lost interest. Something I might give a try is Game centre girl anime & Nukitashi animation one because it has abundant culture. If I may have time may try those out specially the later one. |

I have not dropped anything so far since I didn't try picking up anything I didn't think I could manage watching everything. Though do question if I want to drop Reborn as a Vending Machine since I'm finding it less amusing at this point but it's still hanging in so far with occasional moments silly enough to know it isn't taking itself too seriously yet, just it feels like it is heading there some. As for what you consider You'd probably have an easier time going into New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt if you watched the first series in Japanese audio not the dub because there was a recast in the dub. I went into it from dub to sub and trying to debate what is easier for me to watch. It picks up where the original series left off so you may want to rewatch at least the last episode if you forgot how it ended Takopii no Genzai I'd suggest going into blind knowing little as possible and not reading the white text you see on screen beginning of the first episode (seems to be same message every ep so beyond that you dont need to ignore it), it's only 6 episodes and more than half have aired now. |

I rarely drop anything because i am a completeist and also very selective in regards of what I watch. 5 shows this season is my personal record, normal it is two at best. I like four of these, and one - rent a girlfriends - is seriously getting on my nerves, but i want some closure, hence i keep watching this crap until the bitter end. |

Good thread. I need to drop at least 4 series from what I'm currently watching and, hopefully, this thread can help me decide. I'm currently watching 14 animes, which is way too much for my available time. I'm thinking about dropping City the Animation, Gachiakuta and Silent Witch. I like them, but they're the ones I like the least. Heck, I may even drop KanoKari s4 if I don't see more screen time from Mini Yaemori, but it's harder to drop something I've been following for 4 seasons. As for my dropped series so far: Episode 1 didn't engage me: - Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu - Fermat no Ryouri Dropped flat: - Turkey! As a bowling player myself, I was tremendously blissful since I knew about a bowling spokon was finally going to be aired. Notice that it was announced as a normal bowling spokon for two years, with, at most, a CGDCT blended in. What we've finally got disappointed me beyond belief. Telling what this show was really about barely one day before airing was the final kick in the b@lls (and not the bowling ones T_T). |

Oh, shoot - I just realized that I forgot Bullet/Bullet and that was one of the ones which I had even listed prior to this season starting as a series among the select few I was the most anticipating and interested in. The thing is that it's an ONA aired first online, which is fine, but I didn't realize that they were following the Netflix model of dumping a bunch of episodes at once like a sack of potatoes before moving on (batch release format). Apparently they pulled a Netflix but for whatever reason decided to split it up into two blocks, with only around two-thirds or eight of the 12 or 13 episodes released this past week and the remaining ones later in mid-August. Why they're doing it that way, I don't know. Maybe to coincide with the format of the two-part theatrical release in Japan (two separate release dates). But when I learned of that fact last week I just kind of mentally set it aside for now as I didn't have time/wasn't in the mood to watch eight episodes in quick succession of something new yet when I was trying to keep up with everything else. So I guess that's why I forgot to mention it here as I had sufficiently buried it. But I'll still get around to at least trying it in some form at some point. traed said: I have not dropped anything so far since I didn't try picking up anything I didn't think I could manage watching everything. I think one's view on it and the enjoyment factor is somewhat influenced by whether you viewed it to begin with as a series trying to tell a largely told straight, serious enough story with a lot of goofy moments and comedy/humor included as the core premise is so fantastical and lends itself to a more playful tone and showcasing some absurd feats, but not an outright comedy and pure parody. It, meaning season one obviously, was in my Top 5 series of 2023 and although I don't really rank new seasons of "old" series in the same way compared to the new series part of its same season and year, I'd still say this (and the other second/third seasons of continuing series I've watched in winter, spring, and summer, to be fair) is up there with my favorites of 2025. That's why I like to rank new series separately anyway, to provide them a special place and space rather than just be dwarfed by the older continuations. But why I'm enjoying it more, I'm saying, I think is due to that fact that I always viewed it as a fantasy adventure, with a comedic side to it sure, but more in the sense of comedic relief rather than it setting and determining the narrative wholesale. traed said: As for what you consider You'd probably have an easier time going into New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt if you watched the first series in Japanese audio not the dub because there was a recast in the dub. It picks up where the original series left off so you may want to rewatch at least the last episode if you forgot how it ended Fortunate for me then that I only ever watched the series in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles. Honestly, that's true of practically everything on my entire list other than the Chinese anime/donghua watched in Mandarin Chinese, Cowboy Bebop (though I've since rewatched some episodes and parts in Japanese), and most episodes of the original Pokemon series (although I wanted to watch and rewatch more of this in Japanese, but episode availability online subtitled or at all was very scattershot and limited). I'm the type of weirdo who even watched Gakkou no Kaidan/Ghost Stories in Japanese and subbed even though I only ever hear others talk about and reference the dub, even in a place like MAL. I just prefer everything in its native language. Hopefully Stocking is as glorious as ever. I don't actually watch a lot of exclusively or predominantly comedy anime, but I always liked the visual style of this one and the amount of homage paid and references to Western (mostly American) cartoons, including the ultraviolent Looney Tunes/Tom and Jerry-style ones, the 90s grossout humor Ren & Stimpy-style ones and the "adult" humor or "adult" animated sitcom ones like South Park and Drawn Together as I'm very familiar with all those even if I mainly peaked in my amount of watching and interaction with them by 14. This is precisely the kind of series which normally isn't really my thing, but which I can't help but appreciate how well done it was. And I'll rewatch that last episode and maybe even some other parts if I do indeed go forward and plunge in (I think if I do I'll wait until I'm caught up on some of the two cours from spring I've fallen behind on though), so regards for the tip. traed said: Takopii no Genzai I'd suggest going into blind knowing little as possible and not reading the white text you see on screen beginning of the first episode (seems to be same message every ep so beyond that you dont need to ignore it), it's only 6 episodes and more than half have aired now. Will do. I've commented many times how it seems to me like since about the summer of/mid-2023 we've started to get more and more longer two cour series again, at least from among what I was aware of and watching, and to me that is a very welcome and long overdue development. But I also don't mind some of these series with shorter abnormal episode counts. I wish more series (or the people behind them, I guess) could just be free to have six or 600 or 27 or 19 episodes or whatever they want and not worry about conforming to the more standard episode counts and either rushing or stretching in a way not in line with their actual vision and real time needed for the show. |

- already "officially" dropped: Private Tutor to the Duke's Daughter Detectives These Days Are Crazy Outcast's Restaurant Dekin no Mogura - will probably drop but i'm giving myself a little more time to think about it (or watch one more episode): City the Animation Onmyo Kaiten ReBirth Verse The Summer Hikaru Died - possibly in danger if i need to drop more shows after that: Nyaight of the Living Cat Kamitsubaki City Under Construction Watanare (There's No Freaking Way I'll Be Your Lover) Mikadono Sisters Necronomico general reason for dropping them is they're just not that interesting compared to other shows i'm watching and i have too many shows. And the comedy ones (Detectives and City) are just not that funny to me (humor is subjective of course). And with Watanare and Mikadono, I'm not sure what direction they're going with the romances and I might end up not liking it if it doesn't go the way I want. I don't think I'll add more shows but if I did it would probably be Water Magician, Food Court, or Bad Girl |

1. Uglymug epicfighter: corny and boring mc along with cast and characters. 2. scooped up by s rank adventurer: typical hero party fantasy, seen too many and typical unknowing of power mc. 3. silent witch: mc is TOO timid and what she did in the recent ep of blaming herself instead of the royal, pissed me off. 4. Lord of mysteries found myself, kind of confused with what was happening, despite understanding the plot to a degree, pacing seems too fast as well. Probably won't be picking up any other series |

And now after the 2nd episode, it's clear they are not even going to take the bowling part seriously at all, turning it into some super power. Morbid curiosity it the only thing keeping me going at this point, buy we'll see how long that lasts. I'm not going to drop anything, but if I was, the ones up for consideration from the 25ish I'm currently watching would be: Secrets Of The Silent Witch - This is simply not very good. Bad Girl - Watanare is better in every way so far. Witch Watch - Huge sunken cost fallacy for me. It's a comedy that's not funny. I'm not really into Tougen Anki or Gachiakuta, but my family are, so I'd obviously keep watching them for that reason. |

Summer means I keep getting dragged outside... And lately I'm feeling a little tired of keeping up with seasonals. Quite a few drops already, with some really irritating ones. More will probably come. Dropped: Hotel Inhumans (3 episodes): after Apocalypse Hotel, this just isn't doing it for me. Very corny, spoon-fed, nonsensical, uninteresting and plain-looking. Necronomico no Cosmic Horror Show (3 episodes): crossing game shows with cosmic horror could've been fun, but very clunky and kind of ugly. Onmyou Kaiten Re:Birth (3 episodes): original anime with an interesting setting, but way too many ideas plastered over a battle shounen skeleton. I might pick it up again when I'm feeling less grumpy. Mizu Zokusei no Mahoutsukai (1.5 episodes): a dime-a-dozen isekai power fantasy. I actually mistook this for another upcoming water mage anime that sounds much more interesting. Meh, on thin ice: Gachiakuta: very stylish, but bland story and characters. Still waiting for it to introduce more characters and explore the world Futari Solo Camp: did not expect a camping anime to disappoint, but characters are insufferable at the moment, and the animation is really rough. Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara: I like the goofy tone, but it just isn't very clever or funny, except for a few visual gags. Nyaight of the Living Cat: dumb fun, but jokes were already wearing thin by the end of Episode 1 Ruri no Houseki: appreciate the actual geology and high-quality animation, but Ruri is a bit annoying, and everyone else is pretty dull. Might start later: Takopii no Genzai: interested in serious drama, but at the same time don't really want a misery porn. I will have to be in a specific mood to give it a try. Watching for sure: 2 (Dandadan S2, Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto) Watching but either taking it slow or haven't started yet: 7 Carried over from previous season, on-hold: 2 |

perseii said: Hotel Inhumans (3 episodes): after Apocalypse Hotel, this just isn't doing it for me. Very corny, spoon-fed, nonsensical, uninteresting and plain-looking. My favorite of the 2025 hotel trio (quartet? I don't know if we're getting another one in the autumn season) has been Tasokare Hotel (which makes sense as it was also my favorite series in general of the winter season and probably of the year as a whole thus far), but yeah, up to now this one is definitely beneath Apocalypse Hotel and has provided me nothing to suggest or indicate that it won't continue in that fashion. I'm continuing because I like the assassins premise enough and the hotel setting/theme, and Sara is a decent character it seems like I could eventually become enthused with (though I doubt she'll rival or surpass Neko Tsukahara and Yachiyo, the other hotel ladies of this year), but the male main character is useless (haven't even retained/committed his name to memory yet) and the actual execution of episodes is pretty poor. I was honestly shocked to get something as early as a third episode in a series already do the thing more associated with battle shounen of recapping and reusing a whole heap of footage mixed with some short bits of new and be almost nine minutes into the episode before we were through the OP. Even series I've seen which do this usually have a much longer-running story established and dozens of episodes under their belt before they think they can get away with such a cute stunt. And normally, as I've said on the forum many times, if I'm dramatically and emotionally-invested in a series, I don't even mind this or even appreciate it as I appreciate just seeing my favorite characters again and scenes I enjoyed the first time around, sometimes recontextualized or inserted for added dramatic effect, and don't dislike and even often prefer the slower-pacing approach. But not on friggin episode three of a series which has barely established anything yet! We hardly know the characters, world, or anything else and are given little to no reason to care so far too early for such shenanigans! perseii said: Mizu Zokusei no Mahoutsukai (1.5 episodes): a dime-a-dozen isekai power fantasy. I actually mistook this for another upcoming water mage anime that sounds much more interesting. So far easily one of the most generic series I've watched - the most of the season, of the year, and toward the top compared to all anime I've seen on that generic scale, with such low effort in presenting the narrative and providing reason to care anything about the main character, his mentality, journey and growth, or raison d'etre in this world. He's a typical blank slate self-insert, almost like the writer/creator felt adding too much personality, motivations, or detail on anything to do with him would spoil the accessibility and versatility as a self-insert. So as a fantasy, an adventure, or anything like that it's the pits. The only justification I can give for why I've continued this and am (as of now) still planning to continue and probably see it through to completion is because since the main character is so not-fleshed out and they just kind of wander around, easily beat some monster opponents, and gab, it's actually rather relaxing and I'm just treating it as basically a Slice of Life in another universe. Because the story isn't good/seems non-existent, it's just one of those no stakes-isekai. Sometimes I like these not just to unwind from anything related to real world/life stuff, but even from other anime I'm more invested in. Though it's a perfect example of the type of series I may finish one full season of, but very unlikely to continue after that if it indeed does ever continue further beyond that point. There are a lot of series like that, like some of the ones which have had their second seasons air this spring and summer but which I checked out of after the first season. perseii said: Nyaight of the Living Cat: dumb fun, but jokes were already wearing thin by the end of Episode 1 As I always reiterate, I'm a horror aficionado from way back so I've even seen a lot of and like some horror comedies (I mean in non-anime live action stuff). For anime, Mieruko-chan from 2021, which I gave a 7/10, is a solid example of a horror comedy done "right" to me. But a horror comedy usually has some both genuine horror and comedy and thrives in their mixture and fusion. This, by contrast, is basically a pure parody and I've come to realize that I don't care for parodies, or at least the vast majority of them. Mayoiga from 2016 is a subtler parody of the horror genre but actually done subtly and delicately enough that a lot of the joking aspect flew over people's heads (if you're not a horror otaku) and so could simultaneously function on another level of actually having a coherent/plausible enough story if you weren't appreciating or recognizing the humorous aspects of it. Some of the better shows can function on multiple levels like that. I find that this just can't and I mostly found it dull with subpar and distracting, blocky CGI. It was bad enough when more and more series started to use CGI, often not the best kind, for some particularly alien-looking monsters, some vehicles and machinery, and even horses, but now cats for some reason? Even cats have to get the CGI treatment? This has to be my most disappointing one of the season and perhaps year as the other one I dropped (Outcast's Restaurant) sounded like it could be relaxing/cute but also like it could be a generic fantasy low effort one so I basically had zero expectations for. But this one sounded like it had an amazing premise and if it was played even halfway straight I think it could have been a lot more interesting and something more special. |

WatchTillTandava said: I'm continuing because I like the assassins premise enough and the hotel setting/theme I also started this one because of the premise. I've watched and enjoyed all 4 John Wick movies, and the Continental Hotel and the whole underworld industry thing were a big draw for me (even if they got increasingly slapdash and implausible over time). But this is a case where a good premise just made it worse for me, instead of making me more forgiving. Just shockingly inept in basically every other aspect. WatchTillTandava said: it's actually rather relaxing and I'm just treating it as basically a Slice of Life in another universe That sounds kind of nice, maybe I was a little too quick to judge. I admit I was reminded of Frieren a little, especially with the OP's visuals. I just got annoyed by the non-stop barrage of lazy video game storytelling and mechanics in the first episode. And I was already disappointed when I realized I confused this with Kunon. WatchTillTandava said: Even cats have to get the CGI treatment? I understand that it's hard to animate a swarm of undead (?) cats in a single shot without CGI, but yeah they do look pretty ugly and distracting. I might've been okay with a more stylized look, like chibi or something, but then they might've deviated from the source material too much. I don't think this one's particularly good either, but I'm not exactly against the goofy cat comedy angle, and I've only seen 1 episode so far, which wasn't too bad. |

I like to read people who reply with reasons they dropped something (thanks those who did that). Just a list of shows don't care not interested... I rarely watch more than 2-3 anime per season; this time I have New Saga and Call of the Night 2. The New Saga is generic fantasy slop but will let me practice reviewing a bad show and make better arguments; and Call of the Night is brilliant. Nothing for me to drop. I am considering Takopii but the chances of it making me upset and angry at its existence are so high I'm holding off for now. Way too much stress in my life for torture porn. |

Leviathan:The premise was interesting but the characters and the direction the story took felt bland and boring. I guess trying to adapt 3 books in 12 episodes was a bad idea. Lol Bullet/Bullet:Way too messy and cliche for me. Lord of Mysteries:The pacing is horrible. New characters and organizations or terminologies come out of nowhere, and we don't get any info to make them interesting or to give us any reason to care about them at all. Maybe it is a bad adaptation and the novel is better. Potential drop Gachiakuta:I like the artstyle, but I don't find anything else interesting about it. I will give it 1 or 2 more episodes to see where it will go. |

Which series have you dropped thus far? And, why? New Saga (I watched just the first episode and dropped it afterword. I just didn't like it) Solo Camping for Two (I watched the first episode and about 5 minutes of the second episode and just found it boring so dropped it) Also, are there any series (from the current season) which you haven't started yet but are contemplating or debating starting or not? (Maybe this also can provide some suggestions or the slight push someone needs to try out a particular new series) There are several that I still plan to start, but I'm currently already watching 12 airing series. The one's I haven't started, but plan to... eventually is: Hanako-kun 2 part 2, Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu, Tougen Anki, Takopii no Genzai, Sakamoto Days Part 2, My Dress Up Darling 2, Kaijuu No. 8 2, Grand Blue 2, Dandadan 2, Gachiakuta, Game Center Shoujo, Clevatess, City the Animation, Betrothed to My Sister's Ex, and Bad Girl. |

The only one I've dropped so far is Gachiakuta It was boring, I have way too many seasonals compared to normal, and it didn't take off like I expected it to popularity-wise The originals have been intriguing enough to keep up on and the sequels (including City) are pretty touch and go, some are good, some are bad EDIT: I haven't started but do intend to start Fragrant Flower, Hell Teacher Nube, and Takopii's Original Sin (this one I'm waiting for it to finish so I can binge it) |

I've been tempted to drop Gachiakuta lately, but I'll give it more time until I come to the decision. |
