So i just finished watching a silent voice and it was AMAZING. But heres the thing, i came in expecting something sad, like I wanted to cry BADLY and I can kinda figure the part were people start crying. Personally i didn't cry at all, i just felt bad for the people... Ive watched one piece and i cried countless times. I also did shed a tear for assassination classroom ending... Ive also read Like a butterfly that also made me shed a couple of tears... But then, it feels like i can't cry anymore... am i actually emotionless ? I know there is a lot of sad shows that i gotta watch but i wanna know you guys opinions, did a silent voice made you guys cry ? (still learning english btw dont hit me plz)
edit: thx for everybody's answers, when i meant emotionless i was half joking and it looks like a lot of you took me quite seriously and i find that amusing haha thx again !

Don't worry man, it's not like A Silent Voice will make everyone cry. I also watched A Silent Voice and Anohana with a straight face, it didn't make me cry at all, yet I cried when Eren's mom got eaten by a titan. You're not emotionless at all, it's just that A Silent Voice failed to make you cry just like how it failed to make countless others cry, none of them are emotionless and neither are you.

Oh I cried loads and loads for One Piece as well. But not with Koe no Katachi. Fun fact though, while the anime is so beautiful I really loved it, it is the manga that made me cry. There is a certain panel in the manga that gives the girl's perspective of things and when that entire panel came to me its just broke my heart and I just started to cry. This scene might not be delivered in the anime but in the manga it was so crisp that I felt the emotion in that panel.

yes, you are. You are emotionless. It often happens with over-emotional people and it really seems to be the case for you, from what you stated. Apparently you use to cry a lot over animes (one piece, like a butterfy) and now after watching an amazing anime known for being sad, and loving it, you say you didn't cry? It almost certainly means you have become emotionless. As I said, it often happens to over-emotional people, it is a pretty well known phenomena in psychology.

You're not emotionless I didn't cry watching A Silent Voice either. I haven't cried watching any anime, movie, or tv show actually. Maybe I'm emotionless :/

Nah, don't worry, if you felt sadness but didn't cry it's okay, there are other anime where I wanted to cry but I held back. The important thing is the feeling I guess, there are other ways of expressing your feelings.

I didn't cry but I shed a couple of tears, but I'm over emotional regarding anime.
On the other hand, it takes really a lot to make me cry IRL, and I have little empathy towards most people.

I'd say you're in a better situation than me OP.

The only anime drama movie i cried on is "I want to eat your pancreas", tbh if i cry on anime it usually is series (like Angel Beats, Anohana, Mirai Nikki).

I didn't cry, I thought the second half of the movie was stupid.
I've only ever cried once that didn't involve a dog dying in anime/manga.

The fact that you felt sad means you aren't emotionless. Not crying over an anime is very normal, so don't beat yourself up.

didnt cry either. i dont cry for any tear jerker anime. why? because its all rushed and. pointless.

i usually get tear eyes when watching one piece and i cried like a bitch watching assassination classroom s2. same as you. if it is objectively good, why should i cry. plus all these tearjerker animes are cringe

Everyone has different perspectives about different events. The emotional reaction you get will vary depending on that. I personally never became sad when watching "sad anime". But I tend to become emotional when there are short moments of grief in the anime that isn't dragged for too long. Maybe it feels more natural for me.

I'm not really emotional when it comes to anime. Yeah sure I might of shed some tears when it comes to some anime like Madoka or 3-gatsu but I've never fully cried to some Japanese cartoons. So you're not mostly alone OP.

Crying is not a requirement of sadness. You are fine. The fact you understand and acknowledge the fact you didnt or havent means you know in the past you might have. Maybe you are emotionally drained. Or maybe you know it was sad but didnt feel a connection to the characters and didnt empathize much.

Some people who cry a lot or are hyper emotional can over correct out of emotional burn out and become hypo emotional. Maybe your perceptions have changed and what once made you sad and cry now just makes you sad.

I wouldnt worry about it.

I shed a couple for silent voice, nothing like I want to eat your Pancreas but it had its moments

Yeah I didn't cry watching that movie either. Hell I have never cried at any of these tearjerker anime like Clannad, Your Lie in April, A Silent Voice, Anohana, etc. I will usually feel sad but not enough to shed a tear.

There have only been two anime that brought a tear to my eye and those were Assassination Classroom and Sakurasou wa Pet na Kanojo.

idk, I usually don't cry at sad scenes in anime.
However, for some reason I get teary eyed at other moments like seeing character development and stuff like that

You aren't. Most of the time I watch anime at the most I get steamy eyes. If you feel sad, angry, or happy at any time, then you aren't emotionless.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

You are only supposed to cry when a family member dies or when watching non non biyori episode 4, so you are safe.

Lots of these so called "tearjerkers" are all overhyped bullshit. It may be enough to move a young anime watcher but after some experience it all just becomes cliche

A silent voice is not even considered a tear-jerker. Try Clannad Afterstory and tell us your reaction.

Not crying doesn't mean people are emotionless. Cmon...
Just because tears don't roll down my cheeks but stop at my throat doesn't mean I'm emotionless, because I can still feel the mood.
In my case, it was hard to make those tears come out and ultimately no anime was up to the task. If you keep your emotions inside for a long time it's hard to release them later. When I was finally crying though it was pretty hard tbh. like the last push ups in your workout.

P.S But it was hell of a relief.

If you don't cry over fiction then you are just a normal human being, nothing bad about that. Silent Voice is very good though.

I actually didn’t cry the first time I watched it, but every time I’ve rewatched it I cried

One time I got really drunk and cried while watching Kiss x sis

Of course not! Even I didn't cry but it's still one of fav films as it gave me TONS OF CHILLS. Also the soundtracks and animation is phenomenal. A Silent Voice also teaches you about forgiveness.
