Even though KnY's series sales are considerably higher than OP's due to the older volumes getting a sales boost, individual volumes sales still beats OP's. It feels so weird that Gotouge decided to actually end the series, despite the insane sales. I mean, it's pretty cool for them to keep their words and end the series on their own accord, but I'd assume WSJ would be more forceful about keeping the series going.
Kingdom's total sales are surprising, as four new volumes were released during the fiscal year. 8.2 million sales, despite none of the new volumes surpassing 1 mil; I'm assuming that the anime gave a considerable boost to the older volume's sales.
Spy x Family's sales makes me really happy! It's nice to know that it's able to hit the 1 million per volume mark, despite not being an action shounen. I wonder if a potential anime would boost its sales even more.
imagine if there is no delay of reprints (that i heard about) of Demon Slayer manga volumes it might actually get 100 million sales in just 1 year damn
Nothing really needs to be said about KnY. Numbers speak for themselves. And it is already pretty much guaranteed to take the top spot (for manga) next year as well.
Jujutsu Kaisen seems like a strong contender for the number 2 spot of 2021, given its rapid upward trajectory.
[CLAP CLAP CLAP] I salute Demon Slayer for its magnificent achievements.
One thing I could take from this list is that Spy x Family will definitely have its anime soon. Chainsaw Man also might be at the Top 10 next year. (Looking at the list again) So you're saying to me that Demon Slayer has 10x more sales than the 2nd place Kingdom...this is just unbelievable.
From the light novel side of things, this title called Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon is here. It has a good synopsis, hope this gets an adaptation too. And how the hell is KnY still here, wtf.
Gotouge really did hit the lottery like no other. I doubt we'll ever see something with such huge success in the span of a year like Demon Slayer for a long long time.
I am surprised Demon Slayer is dominating so much. I got to check the manga out sometime. I liked the conclusion of Gotoubun this year. I personally wanted Murenase Seton Gakuen manga to do better, but that is far too niche to ever make the list.
It’s wonderful to see Spy x Family up there! Yes, please give us an anime adaption now. Re:Zero snatching 2nd place for the LN ranking is a nice sight too.
Meanwhile, the KnY domination continues. If anything, it’s looking more and more dominant by the day. Mugen Train better come to theatres in my place soon.
Sad to see Shingeki no Kyojin drop to 10th place but it’s sale is pretty constant so I’ll take it. Hopefully, with the final season coming, we’ll see another spike in its sales.
Kimetsu no Yaiba is really killing it. 5-toubun no Hanayome did very well too for a series that has ended. Spy x Family is very impressive consider that it has no anime. Imagine if it get anime.

Nah. Kingdom anime do nothing boost sales because it was stopped because of COVID. It is live action which contribute to boost backlog
kny's sales record can only he broken either in the year when one piece ends (hopefully) or if isayama bangs the snk ending (i know it won't but the sales would definitely soar up crazy).

Survey Reveals Why Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is So Popular
Finally, the survey asked respondents to write in their own specific reasons they like the manga. Many commented on the pace and the originality of each character. Others wrote that “the story is easy for anyone to get into, and doesn’t use complicated words,” and “not just the main character, but the demons themselves, also have their own back stories.”
Congrats to Re:Zero for the beautiful reach...good job to KNY aswell *sigh*
Ushiromiya Battler, right now, on this island, no one exists except for you. You're the only one alive in this island. However I'm here right now, and i'm about to kill you. Who... am I?
great to see Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu doing well
Kimetsu no Yaiba
It is just the magic of the great animation who made it popular but the manga less than average .. Well, now it is a legendry manga (lol)
Wow Kingdom surpassing One Piece. If somebody told you this 5 years ago when Kingdom was still unknown and OP was selling like hot cakes he would get laughed at.
Still very glad about Kingdom's popularity it sure deserves it.
Snk barely making it in the top 10 lmao what a drop, fortunaly it's going to end soon so the drop will stop.
Glad to see JJK doing well, and it's only the beginning.

Is there anything I can do about this? Nope.
Strange word choice.
Success is something you earn, not something you deserve
Except that most of the success of the series is not because of the quality of the series by itself. It was basically ufotable that made KnY this popular.
Damn SAO and slime managed to pass Kusuriya no Hitorigoto on the year report, that's too bad. Granted, I think they both have more volumes this year than Kusuriya as well, so that's that I guess.
And lol @ 82 million sales. I'm sure I wasn't the only who until last year was thinking that One Piece's 37 million record would probably never be beaten.

Ufotable have other anime and they aren't even close to be as popular as KNY.

Let's not try to fool ourselves into thinking that ufotable is not the cause of the KnY phenomenon, because that would be a clear delusion.
Surely KnY had to do something right (that's why I said most, not all), but most of the work goes to ufotable.
And I'm not really sure about the last part. Sure, KnY is huge, but the Fate series (adapted by ufotable too) literally makes as much money as some countries in the world.

I was thinking that the anime hiatus probably caused people to switch over to the manga, since the live-action is kinda old at this point. Though I guess it's not entirely impossible for the live-action to be the main cause of the boost.

Most of the work goes to the manga, Touken Ranbu was from a popular game directed by Shirai who did Kimetsu ep19 and still isn't even close to it.
and for the last part, no KNY is way bigger than Fate now, Fate makes money thanks to FGO and people whaling for it, compare HF to Kimetsu movie or the upcoming camelot and they don't stand a chance.

And so what? It literally did what it was supposed to do— to advertise the manga. What’s your point here? I don’t get what you’re trying to say
For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully.
And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.”
(Holy Quran 17:23-24).
Xenocrisi said: What’s your point here? I don’t get what you’re trying to say
My point is simply that the success was not earned by the manga and its quality per se, but by something external to it. Sure, it was precisely the anime's job to do that (not trying to argue that), but all that goes to show is how unremarkable KnY was before the anime.
You could say that KnY received a winning lottery by having ufotable and not another studio to adapt it.
And redundant to say, but I'm saying all of this because in your original post you said that "Success is something you earn" as if KnY managed to be that popular on its own (or at least that's how I interpreted it. I could be wrong).
