But in the same tower they also do not give explanation of absolutely nothing. First, which is the importance of climbing the tower? since they simply advance without giving real importance to being disqualified, what is the social position of the test participants? You never see a map of where they are or what the world is like and the difference between the characters implies different origins. If all are inhabitants of the tower at least they should have said how it is formed and these dumb, random ass challenges they don't help Not by figuring anything out, or winning some kind of goal, but it’s made even worse by the fact that these characters act like cartoon characters. As a result, the stakes just don’t seem all that high. It all just seems very… gamey. There isn’t a gamut of human emotions that helps flesh these characters out. For instance, one guy is just annoyed because he keeps being ignored. It's just a goddamned overcomplicated sorting hat just for reducing an arbitrary characters with off screen fights.

I'm starting to wonder if we are watching the same anime. You say the anime doesn't explain anything but we know quite a few things about the world. Sure, some parts are left out, some still a mystery but there are answers given to some of those questions. Importance of climbing the tower? Isn't having any wish granted enticing enough? Isn't aquiring power, wealth, status, etc. enticing enough? Or are you talking about why there is a system in place for people to climb the tower? Social positions. It was touched upon in the 2nd episode when Lero Ro explained the structure of the tower. Basically everyone born in the tower starts as a civillian. Once they are chosen by Headon they are moved from Outer Tower and are granted permission to enter Inner Tower and become regulars. Regulars, once they have climbed the Tower become Rankers. Rankers can then be offered various positions in the Jahad's administration such as test administrators, teachers and so on.

You never see a map because you'd have to have 100+ layers. Imagine a literal tower with 100+ floors. Each floor is divided into 3 sections: Outer Tower, Middle Area and Inner Tower - think of them as concentric circles. Inner Tower is where all the testing happens and only regulars/rankers are allowed to be there. You can only move between floors in Inner Tower and Midlde Area, so if you aren't chosen by Headon to become a regular you are basically stuck on your floor.

As for the stakes. Isn't being killed a pretty big deal? You seem to have already forgotten that there were 400 regulars at the beginning (if we count in 2nd testing spot it's twice that many), vast majority of which were killed either during Battle Royale, Door Test or Crown Game. Add to that all regulars who weren't worthy/skilled enough to pass the Barrier Test, which again was pretty decently shown during ep 2 with the character who worked hard to become a regular but all his dreams were crushed once he was made aware of him being unfit to climb the tower. Imagine working your whole life for some goal, finally getting a taste of it and then being brutally denied it. Also, once you fail a test at 2nd floor you are expelled from the inner tower. So out of 800 regulars that entered 2nd floor only 30 remain. And keep in mind not all of them will pass the next test. If say 15 people pass the final test it'll be under 2% of the total number of regulars that participated in this batch. And you still say the stakes aren't high/shown. Sure, the anime could portray it a little bit more accurately or explicitly but what can we do with only 13 episodes, eh. Just don't say it isn't explained/shown, some of the things you have to deduce, not everything is/will be served to you on a silver platter.

More Lore!

Well more like a snippet of lore but still alright I suppose.
The fact that Jahad gives these girls power and practically takes away their right to have a normal life is pretty messed up. Basically turning them into trophies that aren't supposed to do anything but his bidding. Then again the girls voluntarily seek this power and I think they should already know what the trade off is.

Now what confuses me is the fact that Anak is going after the other Princesses of Jahad whereas logically her target should be the King. Plus, at the end of the day, Mama Anak did break the rules. I know that doesn't justify your mom being killed but the fact is why bother hunting the other Princesses. It's not like they make the rules.
Also there is no way to just give your powers up if you wish to go back to having a normal life? If that's the case Jahad is a dimwit dumbass.

Red horned dude got even more suspicious after getting that letter. Guessing it was a cheat or probably an assassination note.

Other than that everything else was pretty bleh and felt like it went nowhere. I mean, I liked the character interactions but story didn't really progress much. Resident simp Bam was his usual boring self, though it was nice seeing his caring side. Khun's plan to get Endorsi and Anak to sign was a good segment, especially Hatz's line.
We got some Rachel and Endorsi interaction and Rachel's still getting on my nerves. I mean looking at the stars is obviously not her reason to climb the tower but that's all we are given and she just seems like a selfish bitch.

The test itself didn't hold much weight sadly. It felt like it came out of left-field and didn't have the right impact. The story has been pretty unfocused overall but according to the readers they are adapting 78 chapters into a mere 13 episodes so that's to be expected.

Also saw many people complaining about the world not being set up yet and what not. However, the basic premise has already been set. The Tower is set up to be the world itself and we're getting small clues as to how everything works or what the rules are each episode. Also according to the Mangwha readers the world building is one of it's strongest suits and that takes a lot of time. So expecting this to explain how everything works immediately and then just focus on battles, is probably not what this show is about.

As for the disappointed readers. It's understandable, many of you guys have been waiting years for this to be adapted and it's not what you wanted it to be. I get that, but this is very likely a trial run to see if the show is well received and according to the reception they will start improving in the further seasons. As an anime only, I have been enjoying this for the most part even though the pacing can be jarring and the story focus bounces all over the place. So when discussing it or seeing the readers be utterly disappointed, it makes the watchers second guess the content and that will hurt the overall reception.
So why not discuss the episodes content without comparing much to the mangwha and then have another forum where all of you can be as disappointed as you want to be?

Oho next two episodes gonna be real interesting. And we got info and relationships build in this one. I am not sure about building up Ho's rage. They really missed with that scene where Lauroe first show Bam how to make shinsu ball, where Bam do it naturally on first try after Lauroe and Ho first show him. Ho trained whole his life or something and he is barely capable of doing one shinsu ball, while Bam just do it. Lauroe then point's out that is real talent and indirectly antagonize Ho against Bam.

It looks like you are making excuses for the princessess involved. It's the same thing as justifying soldiers murdering civillians during a war, every soldier can say "I was just following orders given by my higher-ups" and you say you don't understand how one can go after them. But it's obviously not limited to war and killing people. In everyday life you might face a situation where your supervisor demands from you something unethical or simply something you don't want to do. It all comes down to your choices and there are ways to wriggle out of such situations, though not always. If people went only after the ones at the top of chain of command, everyone else below those would just use excuses like "I was just following orders" or "If I hadn't done that, someone else would" to justify their actions and erase their guilt. Going after the ones who actually pulled the trigger is a pretty natural way. You would be right if she was aiming only for the princessess and not the King, but she clearly means both.

About giving up the power. Just think about how bad from the political perspective it would be. If some princess gives up the power, it's a slight to King's authority. It basically says that an individual doesn't need it, doesn't consider it worthy to have. But it doesn't end here, it shows others that the King made a mistake in choosing such an individual and no authoritarian ruler can allow themselves to be viewed as someone who makes mistakes. The Princessess are meant to be an extension of the King's power, enforcers of his rule. Giving up the power is a big NO-NO and is punishable by death, just like losing a 13th Month or breaking any other rule. It says that the Princess is unfit and since the Tower is such a competitive world, other people who are vying for recognition and status would immediately turn on said Princess, not to mention if she is from, let's call it for now, a noble family. If that's the case, their whole family would take it upon themselves to eradicate her because as long as she lives, she would be considered a flaw and diminish the political power that family has. To better understand it you need to think of how it was during medieval times. That's the mindset. You'll see some of that political friction in the anime in the near future.

THANK YOU!!!
That info cleared my confusion and everything makes so much more sense. Did they really cut all this out from the anime? Or will they add all this later on? Cause this really improved the narrative.

Am I saying the other princesses are not murderers in this case? Nope, they most definitely are. However, them taking out Mama Anak is justified in accordance to the rules of the tower laid out by the King.
Also I just found out why Anak cannot target the King and that small tidbit of information was all I needed. Since she can't go after the King at least for the time being, it's only logical to go after the people she can target which are the princesses.
The way it was portrayed in the anime made it seem like she was only out for the princesses and not so much for the King, hence, my confusion.
As for the analogy you presented, they aren't completely the same now, are they? During a war if a soldier kills an innocent civilian it's a crime. However, Mama Anak is not an innocent civilian here because she broke the law and got the punishment that was going to be given for breaking said law.
Doesn't mean it's correct, it's just shows how their world is structured and it shows the massive flaws in their system.
Being a Princess of Jahad itself is a horrible thing considering you have to give up your lively hood for the sake of power. That's what makes Mama Anak's death more tragic though. She thought she could give up everything in exchange for power but sadly our mortal minds are fickle things and thus, she went back on her own decision. Leading to her death. At least that's my interpretation for the time being. It very well might have been a setup to get rid of her, in which case Anak is even more justified to go after the princesses.

As for the second part of what you said, I agree with that. If a Princess gives up their power it would show the inability of the King to choose someone who is worthy.
I just wrote the "Give up power" as a throwaway line cause obviously it wouldn't be that easy. Given all the things these princesses have to go through and the decisions they have to make before being chosen.
I will keep the medieval thing in mind though, it makes sense with how the political powers are being showcased here.

Can't wait for more backstory and lore!

You seem to have missed all the explanations given in episodes 1 and 2. The Tower is the world itself - you might think of it as a whole universe. Every character in this world comes from inside the Tower with the exceptions of irregulars which we don't know anything about their origins. If you are wondering how to access the Tower, then no one knows because it's the same as God descending on Earth - such a rare occurance that most people couldn't even believe it if it happened right in front of their eyes. This is further stressed by characters both in high positions (test administrators) and common regulars knowing about other irregulars by name - that means there are only a handful of them and they are quite famous. But if your question was about how to enter the inner tower and become a regular, it was also explained that Headon is the one who chooses people to enter the inner tower and become regulars.

I'd suggest paying more attention to the lore-heavy stuff from now on before shitting on it.

basically the tower is the world, the tower is all. The author doesn't need worldbuilding because everything happens inside the tower. ok?

Ikr. That's like saying you don't need world building when you know all of it takes place on Earth.

Khun might have a secret crush on Rachel. Jokes aside, most probably she doesn't clean her room or she doesn't allow room services to enter her room.

They glossed over it quickly, but he managed to hit that target as the second person to do so. Since the quota for spearbearers was 2 people, they concluded selection right there. He didn't have much competition for the spots anyway, unlike Bam and Khun who have tough oponents to eliminate in order to get a spot.

That said, this wasn't the true test to go up a floor, that comes later. The tests right now were just to assemble a solid selection of candidates (team comp.) for the final test with a certain quota at each of the 5 positions.

This show finally seems to get better every episode. I liked Endorsi, Khun and Hatz a lot this episode. The scene with him being forced to thank Khun was really funny.

"I hope what awaits you at the top is worth more than him".

This episode was good, but like some previous episodes, it felt somewhat unfocused. Jumping from scene to scene, character to character, it really feels like it was pushing to cover ground. If the scenes were slower paced then it would have been a better episode. Still pretty good though.

Specifically the attempt to trick the princesses scene to eat some food and become friends, that should have been longer as well as the game explanation scene.

We continued to get some more characterization for side characters which is a great thing to do, but they should at some point also characterize the main character a little more.

Holy shit that was sooo boring. Why did it turn into generic high school anime? Tag? What's next? Hide and seek?

I'm glad Anak has some personality now. The character development is going really well in this show.

We don't know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths.
As death comes to embrace you, you will realise what you are.
That's what death is, don't you think?

If I had one word to describe this episode, it would be "meh"

So Anak is not a real princess, her mom was and the princess can't marry or have kids, so her mom was killed...but thing is, if Anak was hugged a lot during the fire, why her mom didn't run?

Once again, it was good ! Not great (for now), but definitely good. Something I really like about this show is how each character have their own distinct personality. I've heard about the characters being Tower of God's biggest quality, and I'm starting to see why.
With some development, most of them might become truly great (which is partially what makes me want to read the webtoon once the show is over).
The two princesses are definitely interesting. I wasn't fond of neither of them at first but now that we're exploring them more in depth (especially Anak), they're growing on me.
Rachel also intrigues me. I wouldn't say I like her for now but I want to know more about her. Why is she hiding her identity ?
The Ranker at the end is also an intriguing character. I wonder what him getting serious will lead to.
And the guy with the horn seems to have some important trauma... Poor guy. (Funny thing is I've never realised until this episode that he only has one horn. It's been bothering me the entire ep until the flashback.)
I'm definitely looking forward for the rest ! It's becoming more and more interesting.

I feel this episode rushed, too many things in a short time. Probably the most interesting thing was that we know why the original Anaak died and they explained what is a Jahad princesses. This information is what we really needed.

horrible episode. no direction whatsoever. this adaptation really needs to improve itself because so far its outrageously bad. at least some side characters got some screen time.

1.5/5

I was starting to like this but now it simply feels like any other battle shounen series. The whole "tower" thing still doesn't make much sense to me.
