Basically what the title says.
What manga has gotten a garbage anime adaptation that could be just so much better?
This could be for many different reasons, but the most obvious being a different storyline.
My personal favorites for this are

SOUL EATER and Sousei no Onmyouji which just happen to be my two favorite manga, plus Akame ga Kill.

Kimi no Iru Machi. The anime was awful compared to the manga, The Anime skipped a lot of chapters~

twin star exorcist

twin star exorcist more due to how little is the same and some of the changes they made but akame ga kill is right up there for preventing a sequel series

Ikki Tousen… the manga was awesome... and felt "epic" but the anime was garbage and everything felt unimportant...

The later ovas are actually great, but that's only because they are actual proper adaptations of part of the manga.

Obvious ones, berserk and TG.
Zankyou no terror definitely could've been better.
Didn't finish the whole deadman wonderland story. While hxh 2011 is one of my all time favs, it needs to be finished along with the manga.
Claymore anime deserved a better ending.
Both guilty crown and angel beats as well deserved better endings, GC had a garbage 2nd half.
And psycho pass 2 was just wtf... But s3 hype tho

I’d say:
- Berserk, we need a good anime adaptation.
- Kingdom but it’s impossible because it’s too long.
- Slam Dunk, Touch and Ashita no Joe because the anime adaptations are old.

Skip Beat!

The anime doesn't do this series justice! And that ending? That's not an ending. They did the "now go read the manga if you want to know what happens next" BS. There's currently 42 volumes that have been released. There's enough material for a proper anime adaption.

Also, I didn't really like Kyoko's VA. Her voice was just too girly for Kyoko's character.

Ouran High School Host Club

More specifically, the end. The beginning half is perfect, but towards the end is where it started to disappoint me. The anime came out when the manga series hadn't finished. So of course they're going to make up an ending that doesn't make sense and that just doesn't work. I hated that female character that just manifested out of nowhere (she doesn't exist in the manga) and that just ruined my enjoyment of the anime.

Pandora Hearts

BISH!! The manga is so good! Another anime that ended with "now read the manga- " blah blah blah. Seriously, it would've been such a great anime if they waited until the manga was finished.

Anything by Junji Ito

The Junji Ito Collection was awful. Junji's work in general is far more suited for manga anyway, especially since the art is (imho) much more the appeal than the stories or characters. But if they're gonna adapt something of his into anime, then they should take the time and effort to make it even half as good as the source material.

Honorable mention for Citrus. Citrus, as a manga, is okay. It's far from perfect, and far from being my favorite. But unlike a certain other popular yuri manga, I understand why its popular and can appreciate the many good things it has to offer. The anime was... somewhat mediocre. The animation was iffy at best and they cranked up the rapey vibes waaay higher than they were in the manga.

Gotta agree with my fellow Tokyo Ghoul fans
Dream Eater Merry, I love the op theme & animation but as far as I'm concerned there was no anime >.>

Akamatsu Ken is cursed, between Negima & UQ Holder the guy can't seem to get good adaptations of his works. Might as well say there's a multiverse even though there isnt one in-series

The first I thought of was Deadman Wonderland, the anime didn't really know what it was doing in the latter half of the series. The manga is great so I'm not sure what happened. Not sure if it was to do with Manglobes financial situation at the time but who knows.

Another adaptation by Manglobe I could name would be Gangsta. They ended it at a really awkward place in the manga, halfway through an arc which just made everything seem very unfinished. The animation quality also dropped considerably halfway through the series - which again can probably be put to what was happening behind the scenes during production.

A decent Beserk adaptation wouldn't go a miss either. Please, someone.

I must say Berserk is the first one that I thought about automatically when I saw your question. The first anime adaptation in 1997 did well I guess, at least it has succeed to describe the main problem in the beginning but looking in the latest adaptation with that bad CGI doesn't worth it for such amazing story. The next one is Code Breaker. It maybe has those classic elements but the manga still need a better adaptation. In Code Breaker anime adaptation, there's a lot of scene that I thought need to be shown but they just cuts it and in the end just felt too rushed

07 Ghost for sure, not that the anime wasn't good, just they only did one season of it, and left it on a cliff hanger even tho the Manga continued on from that point.

Great Teacher Onizuka. The quality of the anime nosedives hard towards the end when they start catching up with the manga, and it doesn't adapt some of the later parts of the manga which are the best parts of the whole series.

For an even more controversial pick, I'll say Ghost in the Shell too. While I don't really dislike what Oshii did make, I'd have much rather gotten an anime not made by a stuck up twat, one that actually shows some level of respect for what it's adapting.

I'd definitely say Ane Koi. I actually quite like the anime adaptation it got, however, they only adapted part of the manga. They left out roughly the first half of it, which I think would've actually made quite an entertaining series, due to the good writing.

Unfortunately it's been six years since the anime came out, so I doubt the rest of the manga will ever be adapted. But then again, they did cut out plot critical moments from the part that was adapted, so maybe it's for the best.

Well if you don't think so that's fine, but from my perspective (after reading the manga) it was pretty bad.

First 20 episodes were fine, they adapted the manga for the most part, but they changed a few plot points and scenes.

The last 30 episodes however, is completely original and was pretty bad imo.

Be hopeful tho, the author expressed that he wants another anime adaptation where it actually properly adapts the manga, and with the manga being in its final arc, we might get an announcement right after it ends.

The most iconic and amazing rape scene of Aki-Sora was completely butchered in the t.v. series that made it loose all dramatic impact.

Probably already been mentioned but 7 Seeds. That anime was a dumpster fire; they really did Natsu dirty by making her come across as selfish/useless. They took out how one of her first thoughts were towards her cat and family's well being amongst other stupid scene changes that made her look bad. I honestly feel like they only wanted to focus on Hana.
