It is highly unlikely that with that cold weather, they'll waste their time with sites like this.

Well, you never know if there is a researcher that spends his free time here, if i were one i would feel legit offended by my region not being included.

Weird that the Baltic states are regarded as Central Europe here, I've only heard about them as being in Eastern Europe or Northern Europe. I think Scotland can quallify as Northern Europe, too, as well as Schleswig-Holstein. Croatia is also a part of Southern/South Eastern Europe for me.

That might be, because you only hear about the modern Classification that has been circulating after WW2. edit: and on that Note, you should get (historical) Sources in the German Language, since they clearly state that the Baltic Countries (including Estonia) are "Central European". Scotland is Western European, since it's closer to England than to "Nordic" Countries. Croatia is Central European due to their close cultural Proximity with the German-speaking Regions.

(West-)Germany was on the Side of the NATO, so it was considered "Western" from then on, while Eastern Germany, Hungary, Poland and so on were considered "Eastern" since they used to be Members of the Warsaw Pact. Austria and Switzerland were Kind of a special Case, but they were regarded as "Western" due to their close cultural Proximity with the "West".

Lately, the Visegrád Four have started to regard themselves as "Central European".

Historically, everything as far as German Countries had Power, was considered Central European. This also included nowadays annexed Territories in France, Belgium and Italy and split up Regions such as Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria.

Good Question. There should have been at least one "other" Option. It's also a Question of how you understand the Question about where you are from. Normally, I would expect it to be the Place where you've grown up. Which Country/Culture would you say was more important in your Development? And which Values would you rather subscribe to? And if you don't mind me asking: are you or were you formally regarded/baptized as Catholic or as Lutheran/Protestant?

I do not want to pick any incorrect Choices stemming from Ignorance:

Since history does sometimes repeat itself, I propose taking a new look at this part of the Old World, in a sense a world in itself, where today one hears loud and clear multiple echoes of the past and one witnesses historical repetitions, as the USA puts the whole area in its sights. This is the part of Europe where less than a century ago the USA and its allies intervened to encircle revolutionary Russia, thwart the Revolution and circumscribe the very idea of Socialism that Russia dared propose to the world. Yesterday it was economic embargoes and military intervention. Today American missile shields, military bases and anti-Russian regimes again threaten Russia. It is the same old story: occupation of Central Europe, as if it were a vacuum, a nullity, an empty space deprived of its own historico-cultural time and place. The ignorance of history is indeed a dangerous lacuna in international politics.

http://southerncrossreview.org/69/stewart-mitteleuropa.htm

We haven't bombed the Iraq and we do not bomb Syria, unlike France and the UK. It's offending to group us together with Countries like them. Other than that, the Central European Time Zone is the largest Time Zone in Europe. From Spain to Poland and from Malta to Sweden, pretty much the vast Majority of Countries in Europe use Central European Time. Even some African Countries use it.

And you're telling me that the Name doesn't matter? This is denying the Culture of a large Part of Europe!

We do not belong to Northern Europe, either. Culturally, we have both Lutheranism and Catholicism. Besides, our "Germanic Brothers" went to War against us multiple Times. Also, the Nordic Model differs from the Social Market Economy/Rhine Capitalism. We form our own Entity in Europe and are characterized by the common German History.

When talking about geography, shouldn't the geographic locations be the actual ways to divide areas into sub-areas?
Using stuff like that seems arbitrary.

But I guess Central Europe could've been a choice here, if only to stop you from whining.

Just a quick point: should Finland be excluded from Northern Europe area because our culture and language is literally nothing like scandic countries? I think not.

I was born in and currently reside in Sweden but I didn't grow up in either of my native countries so that's not really an option (I don't feel one bit Luxembourgish), the same goes for my cultures and values as both of my cultures have influenced me greatly and I subscribe to a mixture of French and Swedish values. Admittedly my Swedish is slightly better than my French and I am more well-versed in Swedish politics but it would still feel wrong to pick "Northern Europe".

Neither me nor my brother were baptized so that's definitely not an option lol. Now, if you don't mind me asking, you seem to have a clear preference for the etiquette "Central European" despite having Romanian parents. Do you feel Central European and Eastern European or only Central European?
