How do you get yourself to watch anime when you're in a "lull?"

Like if you for some reason just don't really feel that whatever anime you watch will entertain you (Because the last anime you watched is probably echelons (I forgot the right word to use here) better). Or that they're just too slow, predictable, and contrived for you to not feel bored watching them. Because most anime you watch make you feel like the animators aren't animating, but just going through the motions; making a generic anime with a generic plot, generic characters, and generic premise...
How do you get yourself to watch anime again?

This is what I'm going through right now. Just take a break if you can. But if you're dying to want to get back into anime, just find a character in the top favorites that you haven't seen the anime for and go for it

I just don't watch it. I'll usually just watch some Filthy Frank, which then reminds me that I'm wasting my life, which makes me realize I should not waste it watching 3 men eat a hair cake, and instead waste it watching anime.

You just cry in the corner of your room until you're in the mood to watch anime again. I thought this was common knowledge.

I don't watch western shows because they're garbage.

I've been "on break" for the past... Three weeks so far. And the feeling normally lasts longer than that. (Months, usually)

I ran out of recent manga that interests me. Old manga... I mostly can't get behind a lot of the older artstyles/scan qualities.

I don't know what that is, but the title sounds gross. And Western.

The closest thing to a lull I've had was just recently.

I finished watching Ashita no Joe, and I thought it was the best anime ever to be made, and I still think so, but I didn't finish torrenting the Ashita no Joe 2 yet. So what did I do? I started to watch a series I already had torrented and had on hold for awhile, Overman King Gainer, so I started it and 5 episodes in the torrent was done. I didn't wan't to just abandon King Gainer, so I trudged through it, constantly thinking about Ashita no Joe and when I would get to watch the sequel, this probably affected my score to the show.

To get out of your lull, I suggest to try watching a sequel to a show you really enjoyed, or a show similar to it.

I either take a break or just go for an anime that's the opposite of what I'd usually watch.

Stuff like all those magic high-school types. But really, any anime that has even a generic scene (meaning predictable; I know pretty much exactly what's going to happen) around 5 minutes or so long, can bore me.

Find a different medium or lower your standards. That aside, if I'm in a rut and currently have no interest in watching anything, which I am on a daily basis despite having several shows ready to watch, I just waste time on this site.

To waste or not to waste, aye, that's the rub. But yeah, after watching a lot of anime, you can't just watch anything anymore =X

If you don't feel like watching anime then just don't. Do something else for a while like play video games, watch normal tv shows/movies, read some books/manga/comics. Eventually you will feel the itch to watch anime again, or you will see something come out that grabs your attention.

I honestly just take a break for maybe a month or two. So far, I've only experienced three "lulls", but I'm sure there will be more in the future. For me, the lulls occurred after watching Angel Beats (while I was also in the middle of watching No Game No Life. I got out of the lull by finishing and loving NGNL and starting Tokyo Ghoul). The second one happened after I finished Psycho-Pass (I started up again a few months later with Ore no Imouto). And the third and most recent one happened while I was near the end of both Higurashi and Nagi no Asukara at the same time (I ended up finishing and overall enjoying Higurashi, but I had to drop Nagi no Asukara. It pissed me off too much. I ended the lull by finishing Higurashi and starting Nyan Koi.)

this happened after i binged one piece for a 2 weeks, and after clannad afterstory. Its called, by some, a show hole, and i have dealt with it by telling myself that the next show i watch could be just as good. I think it probably works, since the duration of said show holes lasted only about 6 hours max.

Watch a series of a completely different genre. If you've been watching Clannad, watch some JoJo. If you've been watching Fullmetal Alchemist, watch some The Town Where Only I Am Missing.
When you're bored of anime, it's usually because you've been watching too many similar series.

Accept that then and roll with it. I tend to pick up around 5-6 shows from pvs then slowly drop and normally reach around 2 or 3 a season. Good thing about it is I never feel like I am going to get burnt out because I am not forcing myself to watch a bunch of average/trash shows to fill a time void.

Well, in English...
Lull: calm or send to sleep, typically with soothing sounds or movements.
"the rhythm of the boat lulled her to sleep"
synonyms: soothe, calm, hush; rock
"the sound of the bells lulled us to sleep"

Aka, most anime puts me to sleep. Euthanasia =X

I disagree with the inherent assumptions of the question, that watching anime is some kind of obligation or at least a goal to strive for.

Anime isn't like a job or a relationship. Asking what to do to get over boredom in your marriage makes perfect sense. Asking what to do if your job no longer interests you makes perfect sense.

Asking what to do to get yourself to watch anime seems more along the lines of asking how to get yourself to eat pizza if you no longer like pizza. Or how to get yourself to go surfing if you no longer like surfing.

If you don't like pizza, don't eat pizza. If you don't like anime, don't watch anime. Find some other way to occupy your time.

If you feel like watching anime again in a couple of months, watch anime again. If you don't, don't. It's really that simple.

Wait until something comes along that will really inspire you either bc story or ost.
