Some people dislike the narration? That's like the reason these past 2 episodes have been amazing

Also I am insanely hyped for tonight!

She didn't die yet, Pitou is healing her.

She got injured by Zeno's Dragon Dive.

The narration is fitting for the manga, but I think it's no good for the anime. When watching anime, I'm expecting more actions like characters are moving and such. If it's narration, I prefer reading the manga.

The only thing that makes me like this episode is the part with Meruem, Komugi, Pitou, Netero, and Zeno. Meruem is just so cool...! The way he walk passed Netero and Zeno so calmly while the two are dumbfounded is just so awesome! Meruem's concern for Komugi is also touching~

I still don't understand why Pitou cried though. Is there anyone who can tell me why he cried?

Oh god... that ending...

This is BY FAR the best written shonen of all time... and there's no close second... it's one of the best anime stories period.

That fucking silence... the black and white, the dialogue, the narration... it's too much.

This is my favorite episode of the series so far...

They were probably tears of joy. This is the first time in the show the King actually showed he needed Pitou -- that he could actually depend on him. Considering the Royal Guards live for this loli loving psychopath, this is probably a big deal for them.

Although that is the most likely scenario, it's not the only one. Is it possible Pitou actually grew more compassionately towards humans? Perhaps, just Komugi? Maybe it was used to trick their enemies! Who's to say really.

This is the beautiful thing about subtle storytelling. It allows us to perceive. It allows us to question the characters actions and intentions. It makes the characters feel real.

yeah the narrator speaks a lot, but I'd rather have that than have a quick battle and quick ending or whatever. I don't really mind that much, anyways.

Normally, I wouldn't mind if the narrator speaks for the entire battle for one episode. But nowadays, I'm hearing more of him than the main characters. That is the only reason I decided to give this episode 4/5 rather than 5/5!

Probably my all time favorite HxH episode barring maybe 116, that scene at the end is just amazingly well done. Pretty sure I said this the first time I posted but I think it is worth repeating.

Between Hisoka, Chrollo, and now the King it seems Togashi has a talent for creating great villains. Though I would argue that he really outdid himself with Meruem. We'll see how the arc goes, though.

was not satisfied with this episode!!! I could really have done without the narration through out the entire episode!!! seriously,,,this adding on to 111's 15 minute backstory about the old man's 10K punches a day was agonizing!! I dont need to be told what is going on, when I can plainly see it!! this is a ploy to add dramatic affect, that is not needed!! I pray to god that the next couple of episodes are without narration!!

Heh, imagine this arc with Speedwagon actually narrating it. "EVEN SPEEDWAGON IS OVERCOME WITH EMOTION OVER THE KING'S LOVE FOR A LIFE!"

Yeah, he works for Jojo but it would be a disaster for this series. The calm, impartial narrator we have here fits the tone perfectly, imo.

Can anyone tell me what just happened? Was I reading a book or watching an anime? Why the fuck was a narrator explaining every single thing that's happening?! I think I can understand pretty decently what's going on without someone spoonfeeding it to me, anime is supposed to be a visual media! God, all that content feels so wasted. Had it been executed differently, the last scenes would have been seriously great and emotional. Nothing breaks your immersion more than the fucking narrator talking EVERY SINGLE SECOND!!!

And I understand that it may have been similar in the manga, but anime and manga are two completely different medias. You can't just copy-paste stuff from one to another and expect it to work just fine.

Rage over.

Spoiler alert: they're not trying to explain it to you.
You definitely needed that much explained a least.

It certainly would have lost value if not for the description of Pitou's feelings and Zeno/Netero's too, which foreshadow some thing in the future.

I love the narration style this and the last episode have taken. There's so much happening in such a small time frame, plus we get so many viewpoints within said timeframe. Simply amazing.

In summary: Netero and Zeno jump off a humongous bird with an aura dragon that bursts into a meteor shower. Pitou detects it, but is blown away by an emitter attack from Netero. She engages her healing puppet to stop herself, and begins falling. At the same time, Gon & co. rush up the stairs prepared to fight Youpi, who is then hit by Knuckles (whom the others were unsure if he had survived). APR takes affect, but Youpi's aura is colossal (estimated at 700,000 aura). Youpi grows a new head and destroys the entire staircase. Right after that, Pitou hits the ground and leaps toward Meruem, who is giving off such an intense aura of regret that Pitou wishes he hadn't leapt in there. Komugi was dead. Netero and Zeno agree to fight Meruem in another place while Pitou attempts to heal Komugi.

Oh, and Pouf is in the throne room looking for Meruem.

Awesome!

Edit: I've wanted to tell a story in this way for quite awhile. I had no idea someone had already done it. It's so cool! :D

Well that's what almost all your criticism seems to be about so I figured that

And surely there have been other things happening besides "taking the stairs", don't you think?
I don't get how it's slow, though. I mean yeah it's got slow-motion but that in itself isn't necessarily for slowing things down as much as having many things all at once.

This is probably my favorite episode of the series, and I've loved most episodes that is saying a lot. The second part of the episode is the most significant, and I was just so overtaken with emotions upon seeing the face of KIng along with the reactions of the others in the room. The respect and love for life is demonstrated in this scene in a unpredictable way. Who knew that King would ever care so much for anyone but himself, let alone a fragile girl. The somber soundtrack only adds to the overall emotion in a fitting way. There's not much I can verbally describe, this is just a masterpiece of an episode, in my opinion.

I think it's important to know that the fights themselves aren't really the focal point so much as the thoughts and emotions of the characters involved. At least that's how I feel about it.

This episode is the first time where the narrator frustrated me. Over half of what he said is something the audience can, well should, be able to figure out on their own. I can see it working in the manga, partially because it wouldn't be dragged out in ~20 minutes when reading it, but here it's pointless imo.

Youpi's transformations remind me of various creepy demons from YYH. I love it.

I honestly have always really enjoyed the narration in the palace invasion and it's one of the many reasons I consider this to be my favorite stretch of the series (111~136). I don't see the narrator as an exposition device but as a deliberate stylistic choice. His main reason to be there isn't to "explain obvious details the audience should be able to figure out" but to estabilish a specific mood, pacing, build up tension and emphasize everything that is going on both on screen and inside the characters' heads. It's like a good narration in a book which, in my opinion, serves to enrich the experience. I can understand why some people think that doesn't translate very well to an audiovisual medium but I thoroughly enjoyed it and think this part of the show would be worse without it.

I know some people that couldn't really get into it because they just wanted to see fights and "Gon kick the crap out of Pitou's ass", but then rewatching it after the arc's ending they came to appreciate what Togashi was trying to do.

The slowmotion it had to be done so we can witness and grasp everything that's happening, in top of that its done PERFECTLY. Go ahead fast forward and come tell us if that what you want.

As for the narrator it's makes everything even more epic.

Pitou cried because Meruem never asked anything of her and suddenly he trusted her with an important task, meaning that Pitou was important for him (or maybe she sensed his pain and empathized? which is less likely, or maybe both?).

I think Pitou cried because it was a request rather than an order which is a first for Meruem. Add to that the absolute devotion the RGs have for their king as well as the fact that he said he counted on her and then it all becomes clear.
