I really like the manga, but the anime series is sticking way to close to it. A chapter that would take 10 minutes to read is being stretched over 20mins to watch. It's resulting in some horrendous pacing, and this coupled with the constant flashbacks (they actually serve a purpose in the manga since it does not come out very often) make the show just feel very drawn out.

I've always judged adaptations by their faithfulness to the source material, but I've discovered this is a very narrow view and now understand why many production studios choose to cut scenes. Animating panel by panel is lazy, they don't fix any errors in pacing the source material may have, they don't fix any odd dialogue/scenes, they don't rearrange/change scenes that may be better placed/altered and they don't remove the obvious things that should be removed (like the constant flashbacks in this case). A manga is not a TV show. TV shows have to fill their timeslot no matter what, and as a result many scenes in this show feel very drawn out and at times it feels like a whole lot of nothing is happening.

Don't get me wrong, I still think they did quality work, but I don't think they adapted it well for TV. Even if I didn't have to wait on a weekly basis for the episodes, there were points I found myself skipping scenes between episodes while I was watching them, just so I could see something actually happening. It's like there's a gigantic monologue before every event and it doesn't come off near as bad in the manga. An example of a superb adaptation of source material would be GoT. Despite quite a bit being changed from the source material, it's still extremely enjoyable and watchable in its own right. Anyone else feel the same way? I surely can't be the only one who feels like this.

Err, do you not realize I know what this "good stuff" is? My issue is with the horrendous pacing throughout the anime.

Zzzz I agree the pacing is a bit slow, but they have so many things to explain before jumping into the action, it just make sense to drag it out. I'm more annoyed with the supporting cast Q_Q and shouting every episodes. Wasn't that annoying in the manga.

Don't they do 1.5 chapters per episode or so? Because that's way too fucking slow. Anyway I might drop it depending on how the next episode is.

Oh, yeah, feel free to do as you wish! Buh-bye! Nobody's gonna miss ya!

Edit: Yeah, what was Wit Studio thinking when they adapted this PoS?!?! Obviously, Magi was a better adaptation! They should do what A-1 Pictures does with their works.

People complain about anime being too rushed. When it isn't, they complain that it's too slow.

Conclusion: People just love complaining.

It's our human nature to complain all the time. If you really are considering to drop a show just because you find it "slow" and you read the manga...I have no words to say. You really are being ignorant of the great things that come from an anime moving a little slower than usual. I mean there's one thing if you're sitting there and staring at the screen, completely spacing out because you already know what is going to happen or what they're talking about, but I feel like it's more realistic to have an entire episode dedicated to motivating the soldiers to fight and accomplish what no human has ever done--regaining land from the titans.

If you read the manga then you would definitely know that this does serve a purpose, because people will be sacrificing themselves in order to secure Eren and it really would not make sense if they made a quick motivation speech where a bunch of people suddenly feel like fighting for this strong cause with no real reason. This episode clarified that reason so clear that their resolution is very strong and firm. I don't know what that means but I kind of felt like saying that. I do agree that last episode was a WHOLE crapload of talking and blabbering...it's not like they're dragging it without fulfilling any purpose at all. It slightly irritated me because I wanted them to HURRY UP AND FREAKING START MOVING THEIR FEET instead of moving their darn mouths all the time, but I found it quite amusing to watch the characters interact with each other. I swear, though, a vein was pulsing like crazy on my forehead. I was about to go all super saiyan (cough cough I mean insane...I suck at puns..so I will stop >__>)

I don't know what to say to people who are considering to drop this. I'm not convincing them to maybe reconsider, but I would rather slam my face on my desk a hundred times than listen to people complain. It's so annoying.

Conclusion of this long post that makes no sense: Calm yourselves, and maybe slow down instead of drawing quick conclusions. I mean sure it's episode 11, but things can go in a different direction later on. You never know..

Why can't there be a middle ground? It takes you around 10 minutes to read the material that they cover over 20 in the an episode..... many events are being extremely stretched out.

This wasn't because of episode 11 solely, this was a gradual build up over the course of what we have seen so far. The problem is when reading the manga these things move along nicely, however in TV form it just drags.

The reason being is very simple. If they adapted this to be a lot faster then it would reach the current place in the manga much much sooner. They're trying to drag it out as long as possible so they wont need to add any fillers (which probably wouldn't be bad for a show like this).

For some reason, I haven't seen people complaining about the pacing until after episode 10. Then all of a sudden, people are saying nothing happened, and that the pace for the entire show has been too slow, since episode 10.

And my answer for your question is no

As someone who has read the manga, I can say I love the pace Shingeki no Kyojin is going. I rather they take their time than do what A-1 did to Magi.

If you are going to drop it than drop it.
