Ever since that scene, a lot has become adamant against its realism that I began thinking that maybe "being realistic" wasn't its point in the first place, or for some "unique" death. In Buddhism, a parasol (umbrella-like stuff) is a symbol which protects from defilement/evil influences. Now, this is merely my assumption, but it is not improbable that Yukito Ayatsuji (the author of Another novel) used it as an irony; instead of the umbrella protecting Sakuragi, it impaled and killed her. Also, Ayatsuji-san's wife, Fuyumi Ono (Author of Ghost Hunt and Shiki light novels), has a degree in Buddhist studies, so he might have known about it through her. Of course, as I said, I am merely thinking differently. It could just be that it happened to be something Ayatsuji-sensei thought of as accessible at that time, so anything about the Buddhist stuff may not be in his mind in the first place. But it's worth pondering over at least. ^^ On another note, I like that two of my favorite Jap authors are married in real life. Thank you for your thoughts. I guess you do have a point that maybe the umbrella death scene was an ironic twist on a Japanese conventional symbol. I still think the scene was a bit over-the-top and lacked a basic physical plausibility. But I guess the author wanted to go after something more symbolic with the umbrella. Also I guess the fact that she offered the umbrella to escort Kouichi would be considered a literary symbol as well. It was that scene where I think the biggest damage Kouichi inflicted on Yukira was done. That scene he kept prying for information about Misaki Mei which caused Yukira to get upset and rescind her offer of an escort. It could have been the catalyst that led to the curse being activated on Yukira and her mother. I still think it was a bit over-the-top and could have been handled better. But I guess if the umbrella was used as a symbolic concept I don't feel annoyed by it anymore. It's one thing to have graphic scenes for a reason. It's another to make something graphic just for "shock" value to appease the bloodlust freaks. |

| Why they'd killed the nurse, finally some interesting new type of character (not that she was a nurse, but the way that she was a nurse that interacted in a different way than most nursed in anime), and then they'd have to kill her. In an elevator! Everytime someone is on the verge on dead, they start that music. The glass scene was pretty epic indeed, but the elevator was not nice. It was to be expected though. And the predictions from the topic from last episode were quite right. Edit: I actually don't get at all why an elevator could get loose like that, but it's probably another inexplicable mystery from this show. Also it's kinda sad that Kouichi had to hear that. And so another job for the people from the department of cleaning up dead bodies, they have a busy job in this show. |

Maybe she's a family of the Misaki that died 26 year ago and they are considered cursed or something and one of them is born with two colored eyes and is considered as the reincarnation of that girl and must be treated like it doesn't exist. |

| Holy mother of god. I did feel that the nurse was likely going to die soon, but the scene and the way she died still shocked me. Man, they just had to kill her off didn't they? Just after she had grown on me, too. She was one of the characters I really liked. Meh, oh well. Chalk it off to a case of "Curiosity killed the cat", it seems. Non-main characters who snoop too much in stories like this tend to die early, too. So... beware of old elevators? | Holy hell......... ''Final Destination'' doesn't have crap on ''Another''! That last scene was messed up! I can't believe it. The only reassuring and cooperative person gets knocked off the most brutal and terrifying way possible. Sucks. Looking forward to the next! |

| i am now regret, i finally decide to continue the series and in 2 eps both my favorite characters get killed off >.> i mean, i expected it to happen at SOME point, but not just one after another right away... i almost don't feel like continuing because i hate or don't care for/about the remaining characters and don't really care why dead girl = everyone else dies |
| I knew she was gonna die too. She wanted to know too much and was very ignorant. So ignorant it hurts. I liked her a little bit too. Oh well. I'm sorry I couldn't help but giggle at her "OHSHIT" face when she saw the elevator was almost at the basement. I feel bad Ok episode. Althoug i'll give it a 4/5 |

| Welp, looks like this is gonna turn out to be Final Destination: The Animated Series. Not sure at this point if I'm going to drop it or attempt to stay with it. The premise is kinda cool, but the characters are so incredibly boring that I really can't bring myself to care about them. |

The premise gets fleshed out and explained more in the next couple of episodes (5 & 6) so I'd at least try those out. |

| Gah I wish Kouichi wasn't such an idiot. He's messing with something he's constantly being told not to, and for what reason? Is he that bored...? *sigh* Then again, no one seems to want to properly explain anything to him... least of all the head of countermeasures. Anyhow...sadly I saw the nurse's demise coming. Only from the first few minutes of the show - the beginning narration about how not just classmates are affected, but parents and siblings. Then shortly after, the nurse mentions how she has a younger brother in Kouichi's class. =T Only a matter of time. She was so cool. ;__; *sigh* Still very sad. I hope Kouichi at least either finds out more info or wises up from now on... at least he saved Ms. Drama Club from that shattering glass... 1 point for him there. |
| I get why some people think Kouichi is an idiot and all, but either way he's investigating and that is not gonna stop. Though, I did wish he would investigate in a more, I'll just say "in depth" manner, for a lack of a better word. I don't want him being scared as he delves deeper and deeper into the mystery or around every "accident". I get why he's scared and stuff since people are fucking dying around him, but I'd at least want his character to develop little by little until he has the balls to confront the mystery head on. |

| I couldn't help but 'pfft' and chuckle at her death. When she faceplanted, that was pretty lol. And the noise kind of killed all the brutality and horror. I knew she was going to die and shit, but wow, an elevator? I hope there are going to be more creative death routes of characters in this show. The megane girl's death was interesting at least. Seeing that the impaling didn't kill her off immediately, she struggling and choking like that. Now that was freaky. This death felt dull (but considering the facelant, it made up for it). Oh wow, I just talked about the dead people. Well, story-wise, Kouichi should hurry the fuck up and do whatever badasses do in anime like this (not that I watch these sorts often anyway). |

| Still, stairs>elevators imho XD BTW - isn't there a simple solution to this "curse" problem? It kills people attending to class 3 and their relatives - make only 2 classes or close the school. |

| Wowww that was more gruesome than the manga. o-o;; The second he picks up the phone for Mizuno I just start going "NOOOOOO SHE'SA DIE" a la the second I see an umbrella. Ahaha I'm not sure reading the manga first was a good idea after all... I thought it would keep me safe from heart attacks, but when I saw the glass about to fall I so thought that they'd changed how she died. But no. Some extra development though. |
| Saw her death coming, knew she was going to die soon, she was too much of a resource. I feel like their plan is to use him as a shield to the "curse". If he doesn't know what rules to follow to avoid it, then he will probably be the next to go is what they are thinking. And if its only 1 death per month, that saves them for one month! |
