Well there ends 1 of my 2 yuri manga, I always looked forward to, whenever a new chapter released.

It's graduation day and like it always, it was a teary occasion, full of reminiscing and prospects of the future to come. Even though it has ended this Girl Friends will always remain close to my heart, as the 1st lengthy yuri manga I ever read.

Urgh~ that sounded way too sappy (^_^)

Graduation ceremony takes place, and Mari and Akko think on both their past, their present together and how to deal with the future. (Sigh) I'm really going to miss Girl Friends.

That was a great ending though I would love to see Akko in the final last panel where Mari is featured as sometime in the future with a really long hair. Well, there goes my favorite Yuri manga.

Thanks for Morinaga sensei for this excellent yuri treat.

I have to say, despite the fan service being nice, if not slightly abused, this was a really wholesome manga in terms of story and its characters. I'm quite sad that it's ended since I enjoyed more or less every chapter and looked forward to each update.

Personally, this was one of many relational series that actually gets the feelings and emotions between characters right, or at least, realistic. I sympathised a lot with Mari in particular so I'm really glad she found Akko and happiness in the end.

Sappiness aside, I agree with most in saying that the chapter was kind of short for a finale but it did a good job in wrapping everything up regardless. The spread near the end was especially nice too, since it included everyone and not just Mari and Akko.

*sigh*

Such a good manga. <3

It was a pretty short chapter, but I really enjoyed it. It was a great manga, and one of my favourites I have read. The series was well wrapped up, and it was a satisfying way to end the series.

I agree. It was the only manga I counted the days and checked if the raws and translations were already made.

I will miss the manga and I hope the Morinaga-sensei brings a new work as good as Girlfriends soon.

I thought it ended fairly nicely, without being cliched or anything. It was kind of bittersweet that Mari was keeping that sticker on her battery under the back cover of her phone. But that's realistic too the way society is at the moment. Hopefully they'll both be willing to be more openly a couple in the future (after they're both done with college probably).

Looking forward to omake from the last volume, even if it's just something silly. I'm definitely going to miss this series. :(

I've never thought someone could finish a manga in a normally way, but Morinaga-sensei just did an awesome job here.

Btw, I'd want to join the "most epic yuri manga evarr" squad! :3 Surely, it was the best.

Sigh...

What a great manga, I'm sad it's over. I agree with NeloDeath, I thought the subtle ending was well done, even though it's hard not to wish for more romantic scenes with those two ^^ I'm gonna miss reading this.

Mari's hair looked cute.

Also, K-ON reference ftw.

ya know it's manga's like these that you really learn to appreciate. You can't find much heartwarming stuff like this (and kashimashi) I especially love winding down with a cheerful romance story like this when im battered by drama bomb's on other series. The Ending was very nicely done I loved this manga and will be on the lookout for similar ones ^.^

It was pretty warm-hearted story, although some of the wishy washiness kind of pissed me off in the middle (like the boyfriend deal). I'm also glad it ended on a positive note for a change and didn't opt out for the usual last minute drama clusterf**k.

It was a good series, very heartwarming and the "atmosphere" wasn't too cliche but there were a few faults.

The biggest being that they never really addressed the homosexuality topic. I mean it was good they didn't just introduce the idea and then the parents just go "oh well" but ... I feel like gaining acceptance by society (or not) should be a part of any yuri/yaoi manga to add depth. Especially in Japan where Homosexuality is discriminated against more harshly than America.

After finishing this manga I can't help but see the resemblance Akiko and Mariko has with Kyouko and Yui from Yuru Yuri, they look practically alike.

OT: Great series, I'm glad I jumped into the manga world, there's just so little yuri that gets animated. Hopefully in the future they will make an anime adaptation of this!

This was so beautiful ;_; Why does it have to end?
I'm a little sad that they didn't tell us more about their future, and they didn't show the hardships they had to face. Though I also believe that those two will get through them as long as they don't give up, just like Mari said :)
(Btw, lol at Mari putting the picture on her phone battery :D)

The story is an instant 10/10 :3 Which means it's really something very special and found a place in my heart, as one of my new all-time favorite. I truly think it's a masterpiece, and even the very long wait for their realization of each other's love was totally worth it. My only regret is that we only got to see them together (as lovers) for 1 volume :(
My favorite character was certainly Akko. I don't want to compare her to Mari as they are both excellent characters, but I still liked Akko more for being more decisive, funnier and cuter. I kind of liked her side of the story (like her monologues) a bit more as well. Her love for Mari came out even more adorable than the other way around :3

Seriously, why the heck is there no anime of this? ;_; It could make a really good 2-cour (I think 1 wouldn't be enough for it). I would be happy with 1 little OVA though (like after they got together or something).
Oh well, until they make an anime (whishful thinking...), I'm pretty sure I'm gonna re-read this manga sometime :3

Really liked this manga. None of the characters were absurd and actually had real life logic and were enjoyable characters. And yuri is always nice.
Only thing I didn't really like is how their entire third year was skipped straight to the graduation ceremony. Weird that the girls had been going out for a year and Mari just met Akko's mom. I know they kept it a secret, but you figure she'd be over enough they'd meet. But Akko's mom is always busy with work.

I sincerely applaud the author of this manga for creating a great yuri manga that is balanced between the drama and the lightheartedness. I enjoyed reading every chapter of this manga and I don't get bored of it. The character development was solid, and the relationship was strengthened through each arc and pays off once they finally love each other. This is a great series that I pray will shed some light within the future. 9/10.

The ending made me tear up a little. Although, I would've liked to see how their family and friends would react to their relationship and how that would affect them. But I'm also glad the author didn't rush the moment where they do tell their friends about it and shove it into the last few panels of the final issue of the manga.

It got a little frustrating during a few chapters with all the misunderstandings, but overall this was a great manga. So good that I tried not to blow through all the chapters in a day, because I wanted it to last for as long as possible. Glad I chose this as my first proper manga.

And like RazielZero said, I would also love to see a good 2 cour anime adaptation of this. Don't get why it hasn't happened yet. I think it has the potential to be really popular.

I really can't understand how this manga didn't get an anime... Serious.. It's a true masterpiece Yuri/Romance/School/Drama Slice of Life manga....

Although if it was to gain a "fail" anime adaptation (with chapter skipes, changes and etc), it's better to not even have an anime to not spoil the beautiful work that is 'Girl Friends'... Besides, 'Girl Friends' is one of those mangas that really deserves a full anime adaptation of all chapters.

By the way, thanks Morigana-sensei for the beautiful work! The best Yuri manga I've read so far! 10/10 Thanks!

PS.: Of course, who woudn't like to see the 'AFTER'..? Unfortunately, there are few authors that makes the 'after'... =/ Morigana-sensei could be these "few authors"... =( at least with 'Girl Friends' (y)

PS2.: Currently, which manga Morigana-sensei is working..?

Beautiful, cute, lovely, what more can i say. I felt Aoi hana moved a bit too slow for me and the characters in Octave just weren't making any sense, but Girl friends improved on all those and is the best shoujo-ai manga out there.

Even though it feels pretty weird, I have to admit that I feel really really touched by this yuri manga, way more than I expected, after having burned through it all in a day. Frankly, I am finding it pretty hard to think here ^^;

I'm a little sad that the ending didn't delve deeper into the conflict between homosexuality and society, but I guess that can't be helped, since then it'd just end up being an unnecessary dramafest, eh. The point is that they'll be strong enough to face the future, keeping their relationship strong! Which is good! The characters are all so lovely ;-;

This would make a REALLY good anime, I have to say... I can only hope that someday, in the future, someone will pick it up... Alas, will that day ever come?

In any case, this gets 10/10 from me~ It's just that lovely~ Waaaaah~

This was a really awesome manga. I liked how it was cute and fluffly, yet it still managed to be damn serious at times. I loved both main characters, and while I liked Akko more, I still liked Mari's viewpoint better. And I seriously thought Sugi and Tamanin would end up together (>д<)
I wished I know what happens after their friends and parents find out the truth, but you can't have everything I guess. I also kinda missed Akko from the timeskip, I wonder how much she changed.
The only thing I didn't like in the manga was Mari's indecisiveness. I hated how she went back and forth between being gungho about getting Akko's heart and giving up and being sad. It was especially cringy when the story switched to Akko's viewpoint and Mari still tried to act neutral towards her. Like, it was obvious Akko was tryharding big time to get it on with Mari, and that's what she wanted. Then why did she decide to be all neutral and distant ఠ ͟ಠ

But where is the anime?
