Desperate to protect his homeland, Isshin's grandson Gen'ichirou turns to forbidden powers. The only hope lies in a kidnapped boy — the Divine Heir — and his silent protector: a loyal shinobi known only as Sekiro.

The art looks sick! Not sure about the staff though. Seems to be the first time Kenichi Kutsuna has the director role.

It'll probably be about as good as the Tekken anime.

Oh cool. A game I beat a few years ago is getting an anime. Never would've expected Sekiro to get an anime one day. Doubt it'll be any good, though. The game won Game of the Year btw. Which means that one of the best video games ever made is getting an anime. Anime-onlies will never know how incredibly difficult the boss fights were in this game. Some of the boss fights would take me months to finally beat them.

@Miragee The staff is amazing. Takahiro Kishida designs, Kaito Moki chief supervision, Mukouda supervising the action, and Kutsuna isn't some random guy. He's a relatively big name in the industry, and finally getting his directioal debut is huge news.

@EcchiGodMamster It's mostly just sweaty dudes fighting. Even Kuro is just a shota.

Hmm, still not convinced, but I’ll give it a try.

One thing I’ve always loved about FromSoftware games is the unique atmosphere they create — especially their "show, don’t tell" approach to storytelling. I’m a bit concerned about how that will translate into an anime without losing the original ambience...

Anyway, it won’t hurt to give it a shot.

@Kenchiin well, tbh Sekiro is probably the most “not FromSoftware storytelling” FromSoftware game.
If it were any other game of theirs, I would understand the concerns, but Sekiro has much more classic way of storytelling.
But at the same time, I agree that I hope that they won’t explain every single th8ng and detail on the screen, which is quite common in anime.

Kishida’s designs were supervised by Moki, a big fan who gets the appeal of his linework. Mukouda adds looseness to the action to balance the detailed style, and Kaneko brings his usual painterly beauty to the BGs.

A perfect PV, can’t wait to see it next year.

Why, of all the Miyazaki games, was this one the first to get an anime? Especially considering the huge hype of Elden Ring. I'm not asking about Dark Souls, because the impossibility of their anime adaptation has long been a kinda meme in fandom. Is Sekiro really the most plot-driven?

I love souls games to death, they are my favorite ever, but the story is never the main appeal of them to me. I guess it'll still be cool to see

Looking real cool, I am completely unfamiliar with it but the art is fire and there's never enough samurai anime. Also, TsudaKen!

Yes, I am relly glad we get an anime after ages, we never got a second game or even a DLC... (not counting some random boss rush mode but that was zero story anyway)

@dimidrum I just hope they don't include into the adaptation the 127 times I failed at trying to win the fight against Genichiro xD

@MomoSinX If you also tell me there are no poisonous swamps there, I will be seriously disappointed in Miyazaki, lmao.

@RippleLover And the company came out with a statement today saying what they initially said in their announcement: That Sekiro will be fully 2d hand drawn, no AI used (at least for this specific series, we do know they plan to for other stuff in the future sadly, so they are still pretty sucky)

So the fact that now off model in between key animation sequence that was never meant to be stopped will be called AI? It is just sad.

The production in the show is great and appropriate, and the monster design is good. I think they will quote all the boss monsters in the anime, so it's exciting.
