| I think it has about as good of an argument as any of the other candidates. Only real issue I have against it being in the top spot is that it feels a bit off to have something that is not a single entry complete story as the #1 show but there are so few of those comparatively that I don't mind that much. |

| MAL is full of bots, delusional people and tourists so rating doesn't matter much, or better to day, it means the opposite thing - the bigger score anime has then the more it's suspicious since I watched many of highly acclaimed anime series and most of them are average at best when some are utterly disgusting or primitive. But some people are so big simpletons that seriously keep saying even on verge of 2025 year that 'masses are always right' with implication that sum of subjective opinions somehow becomes objective reality when it's just a statistic. |

| Frieren has the right mix of action and contemplativeness to appeal to both young and expert anime fans. It won't be the favorite anime of someone who doesn't particularly enjoy one of these sides, but rest assured that Demon Slayer or Mushishi would never be able to reach the n°1 spot. Personally, it's not my n°1 but I'd say it's better than any other anime that ever reached the top spot on MAL. |

| Yes, objectively Frieren is a masterpiece on all fronts; characters, story, mono no aware theme, SoL, action, animation, backgrounds, direction, cinematography, world building, mix of comedy and serious subjects. Is it for everyone, no. But if you're a fan of high fantasy/swords and sorcery and enjoy a well crafted show made by talented people then you'll probably agree it deserves the no 1 spot. There's only a handful of other shows that can compete imho, Aria The Natural and LotGH. |

| As long as I've been on this site Frieren is probably the only anime I feel truly belongs up there. As time moves forward so does the size and overall opinion of the anime community, contrary to the opinions of many on this site there's no such thing as "the objectively best anime" or "peak fiction". If it really bugs you, please rest assured it won't last forever thanks to all the obsessed fans and bots pushing their favorites to the top. |

What else can determine the top spot? What is the reason behind your statement? Isn't it just your own subjective taste? If frieren didn't deserve its spot then it simply wouldn't be there. (Well there are cases where the score gets inflated because the said entry is a latter season of the show where mostly the fans are remaining to vote but that is not the case for frieren either) |

| @23feanor You lost all credibility when you said "objectively", and your supposed masterpiece anime does not even have an ending and exists solely for one season at the top spot, there is no telling if it will still stay the same masterpiece you claim it to be until the end. AoT is another example of "masterpiece" anime that was brought down by its ending. Not to mention, Seirei no Moribito has all the elements you mentioned in your post plus it actually has a satisfying ending, but of course it does not have a cute waifu material like Frieren so no top 1 spot for it. |

I dont personally mind it being number 1 since I love the show, I understand some of the valid criticism people make for it (for example it being an incomplete work), and I love FMAB which was in the top rankings for years. Do I think Steins Gate or Gintama deserve such high spots, I dunno, havent watched them yet. The only rating that matters to me is my own, if someone has similar agreements, great, if they dont, thats fine. Wont lose sleep if most of my top favorite anime arent even scraping the top 50/100/500 on MAL. |
