| Things are as per usual in the Jade Pavilion, though this time, there's a new rumour of a spirit: a ghostly lady in white haunting the rear palace, though with the palace's high walls, it should not have been possible, except if it's the typical ghost story. The quack doctor is now serving Maomao nicely, though Jinshi comes and interrupts her for no reason at all. Of course, Maomao's heard of the spirit haunting rumor, though with Jinshi's annoying pesky persistence, Maomao resigns to help him, aside from his clear favoritism of her snide remarks. Turns out, the lady herself is Concubine Fuyou, a mid-ranking concubine who has an affinity for dancing but started sleepwalking on the walls, with her promotion being bestowed to a military officer. To Maomao, Fuyou's case is too eerily similar to one that she's seen back in the brothel, though Jinshi will always ire her in his beauty-looking demeanor. In fact, Maomao had more of the same case being of the courtesan and the man who wanted to be with her, which is explained to Gyokuyou that like the case, Fuyou had sleepwalked just to get out of the Imperial palace with the Emperor giving up on her, awaiting the military officer who had waited for her long enough to take her away and spend his life with her. Simply a tale of love through dance and beauty, aided by Yuiko Oohara's insert song, bringing genuine tears. Within the 3 episodes so far, this is yet another strong contender in the Fall season. A continuous 2-cour at that as well. |

| Well it was a smart way to avoid the emperor, i hope she will have a happy live. Moamoa keeping it a secret was also nice of her. And now Moamoa has to avoid being sarcastic and looking down at a certain someone which must be hard for her, it was a funny reaction tho. |

| @MegamiRem: Don't worry. The initial 3 episodes were to establish the characters and background. Episode 4 is when things fully kick off (I am a bit surprised that they didn't end with ep4) |

| The studio is doing an excellent job so far. I really enjoy the small stories like this. Maomao helping Fuyou in her own way. Jinshi playing along. Gyokuyou relating to Fuyou and revealing her envy. The symbolism of the cotton rose flower. Fuyou showing us a different side of what life feels like as a concubine in the emperor's palace. And then the ending with Fuyou finally being able to show her true self and the impact of the music alongside it. What an amazing and beautiful episode. |
| Good couple of episodes, this one in particular i really enjoyed. Maomao is just a really nice character to be around and follow (also helps that aoi yuuki does a great job as expected). The animation itself aint anything special, but the show does look good for the most part, so ill take it for sure. |

| Another much anticipated anime of the fall season is finally here, and it's everything I could have asked for! Through the first three episodes of this series, it has been a rather interesting start, and pretty easy for me to binge, due to its nature of being a mystery, though staying light-hearted and comedic at times, and all encapsulated in a fictional inner palace, modelled after a Chinese setting. I'm no stranger to Chinese period dramas, and I always find it interesting how gender is portrayed in these shows. In the older Chinese dynasties, the Chinese harem system was very prevalent and common, and the inner palace, babymaking and the objectifying of women, with them being handled and passed around as gifts, was what life was dedicated to. For that reason, I find it intriguing that in this portrayal of the inner palace, we see the perspectives of women with agency, solving problems, being involved in the politics of the palace, all in quite a thoughtful way. Also, the existence of Jinshi as a test of loyalty to the emperor struck me as a different twist to the whole system, which is a nice take on this fictional Chinese setting. The big draw for me here are that the characters are quite endearing and interesting. I'm really liking Maomao's character already, and a big reason why might be her voice actor, Aoi Yuuki, nailing her performance. The deadpan delivery at times, but also the expressiveness at times works real well for the comedic effect. Jinshi's existence in this world I've mentioned how much I like that already, and Lady Gyokuyou seems like she could play a big role in the story, as seen when she envied Lady Fuyou as she left with her childhood friend. A strong contender this season for sure, and knowing that this is a continuous two-cour helps things for sure. If the quality stays consistent, I'm going to enjoy this very much. If you're a fan of period dramas, or mystery, this might be the show to look out for. |

| Best episode of the three so far. The starting portion was kind of meh but the ending portion was strong and the payoff made the episode worth it by the end, even if Maomao really did not do a 'crazy amount' per say with this situation. The story was more compelling for sure than the previous episodes. Was a touching little ending and nice to see Fuyou and the soldier get that happy ending they deserved after what they had to sacrifice for quite some time, Fuyou was committed to the cause and it worked out well. Simple but fairly effective. Jinshi still really is a caterpillar to me too, god he's insufferably dull to watch. |
Better love story than Twlight, MaoMao ironically becomes a detective. Probably better than the Manga at least till now. |

| pretty solid 3 episode start. i like this adaptation so far but i think i just slightly prefer the manga because of the art over the animation here, although the animation isn't bad by any means. the osts in this slap though, especially during the fuyou scenes. |

| Okay, this is going to be good! I'm so pleased to see that the team working behind the scenes is giving it their best shot here, because this series deserves at least that. Maomao's character and VA choice just complement each other perfectly. Already a strong contender for best girl of the year, imo. Both Op & ED give her quite the focus too, which is nice to see. Music-wise, they're beautiful as well, can't wait for them to be available on music platforms. I was expecting a heartbreaking story for the couple, but thankfully, it was the exact opposite. Being born into a different class is usually the biggest hurdle to get over, and even more so in the setting of this story. For all the sadness to come (I'm guessing), this is one for the happiness list... |

| i am glad they release 3 episodes in one go. The last one was great story. It seems Jinshi is into be treat as a walking garbage by Maomao lol. The OP song will be my most replayed theme by the rest of the day. |
| Man it's good to see Maomao animated! One of my favourite characters ever. I can't wait for the next episode. Watching this weekly will be a treat. Fuyou was amazing too. It was heartwarming to see her and her childhood friend get to be together ~ Even better seeing MaoMao make sure she wasn't found out and Gyokuyu being supportive. Also man Jinshi feels even more rapey in the anime lol |

| That was a great start! I had high hopes for this and it delivered. Hope they'll dub this in Chinese too, that'd be cool (considering that the story is based in ancient china) I'd definitely watch it in Chinese too. |

Is it just me or does this show kinda remind me of “Raven of the Inner Palace”? I mean they are both set in ancient China & within the Inner Palace but this third episode is definitely similar to one of the early episodes from said show. 🤷🏽♀️
| @SRNCotaku: It does remind me of "Raven of the Inner Palace", yes. However, personally I consider Kusuriya no Hitorigoto way superior, since it is much more diverse in setting and execution. Figuring out what happened in the past which left a ghost behind, and solving the underlying grievance kinda gets stale after the 10th iteration. Also, Maomao's diverse emotions including her SD antics is far more appealing to me compared to the Raven's detached stoicism. |
| Very solid first 3 eps. I see why the LN was so highly regarded this got me hooked right from the get go, and MaoMao is a very funny and cool FMC can’t wait for the rest of what this show has in store for me. |
| Such a really good show for the first three episodes. A historical slice of life with various cases and mysteries. I really like Maomao's personality and her disgust reaction towards Jinshi lmao. The chibi nyan is also very well incorporatd in the comedic scenarios on Maomao's obsession toward drugs. Could be the contender of the best fall show if it keep being interesting on showcasing various cases in the palace. Her apathy is great and keep it up! |

| Oh damn the beauty cotton-rose concubine tricked the first night performance with the Emperor, feigned the sleepwalking disease, and left the palace without getting further suspect by the whole officials. A successful scene. Maomao didn't forget to put a disclaimer as it just a mere speculation to avoid any unnecessary conflict even so not telling the detail toward Jinshi, seems like so real. She explain the case by her brothel experience again, feel like a good excuse from all the difficult description she may occur. I also like how honest those red-haired concubine so honest after hearing the explanation. If only she met Maomao before the Emperor manage to laid a seed, she may as well find an excuse to get the hell out of there without any worries. Since she may kind of a very important person as well outside of the palace. If a mid-rank can put such a show, how come Gyokuyou can't? Just like Maomao, i also put my disclaimer as just a mere speculation, right about here... But yeah i can understand how Maomao need to lay low the profile since its her whole motivation. However what happened when the skill and knowledge manage to wild spread outside of the Gyokuyou wing? Next episode might gets the idea what's gonna happen to Maomao after then.... |

Looking at the preview for ep4.. the art and animation took a nose dive. I guess all the budget went into these 3 episodes
| @Marmotzel Its funny you say this because for me it looks like by far the best looking preview yet lol. Definitely a different style but you can actually see the characters moving way more already. |
