Ah, even in the finale, they still have to rely on Kotoko with case. They should just let her enjoy her meal without the drama but then again, I suppose she was born to this.

This wasn't a complex case to deal with considering Kotoko directly interacted with the vengeful wife spirit. I like how Kotoko explained it was karma that got the husband into such a case. A rather safe way to conclude this season imo although I felt slightly underwhelmed.

Volume 7's side story of the Unagi restaurant, there lies a case as well.

The two gentiemen of Takaya Kajio and Ryotarou Jujoji eating unagi as means of a celebration of the former's deceased wife, he's been in a sorts of hungover, only until recently that he's able to sleep well. The bizarre sight of seeing Kotoko eating unaju on her own, it's either a blessing or a curse. Referring to her as the god of wisdom and fortune Kokuzo Bosatsu, with the notion that the unagi is a symbol for capturing the culprit for his/her crimes, Jujoji accusing Kajio for killing his own wife Yukie, it's not without baseless proof. Hiring muggers to kill his wife from the thought that she could be lost to some other man than Kajio, his facial expression of tiredness shows, and being backed to a corner that Kajio retaliates with full force, having Kotoko around is a sign for Jujoji to come clean with Kajio for the latter's murderous analyses, and the true murderer, albeit guessed correctly, will not be sold off by his close friend. In retorspect, Kotoko really has nothing to do with it...or is she?

Kotoko interrupting Kajio on his way to the police to confess for his crimes, which he'd felt relief after doing so, it was a complete surprise from his viewpoint. But to Kotoko, it was a case of pure coincidence, and his wife's spirit haunting him enough to tell the Goddess of Wisdom thereafter, there's no escape for the controlling Kajio for his crimes, Unfortunately, this is a case of karma, a retaliation that he'll suffer the same fate as his wife did. And she was there to eat unagi...just to revitalize her sex drive towards Kuro.

Oh well, Kotoko would not let go of Kuro either way, and that would be forevermore.

The exact same as Season 1, either you love it or hate it.

Kotoko being her usual self to end the season. For a spoiled rich girl turned God of wisdom for yokai, ayakashi, and spirits she's abnormally crass. Kotoko doesn't know the meaning of the word filter. An unusual final case for this season. That guy was a bit of a psychopath killing his wife because she was about to leave him and he couldn't imagine her with another man. Kotoko point blank calling people out will never not be the ultimate badass move. Like we saw in the last case too, starting down a gun right at her head. This season has been interesting showing us more than one singular large case we got multiple medium sized cases and a few one offs. Kotoko and Kuro went around to lots of people helping them while they tried to find Rikka. I think my favourite was the Pinocchio case at the seaside town. The corporate wife case and the Rikka standalone cases were good too. Overall I think this second season took the first and continued what this story does well.

A short case for the last episode. Underwhelming in comparison to other good written cases. The season is finished: the Yuki-onna case outshined. The fox cases has a good writing and liked Rikka solo case. A very talkative show which won’t meet the taste of the huge part of anime community. I am satisfied for what the show delivered (the first and last episode were disappointing)

weird request for any Japanese speaking visitor.

at the end of the episode Iwanaga says a funny expression when explaining why she went eating eel, in English it was subtitled as "tonight I'm gonna give it my all", in Spanish it was translated even funnier "tonight I'll break the bed in half"
Can anyone help me telling me what is the expression she says in Japanese? it sounds like "Konya Wa harakirimasu"?

thanks!

A simple, single-episode case to finish off the season. That dude was one of those types, the "if I can't have you no one can" type of weirdos. Kotoko enjoyed some good food, did her job exposing that creep, and went about the rest of her day. Pretty lighthearted finale with some of Kotoko's typical dirty humor lol.

I enjoyed this season about the same as season 1, the thing I liked more about this season though is that it didn't have a single mystery that took up 75% of the season (no really, the Steel Lady case from S1 was 9 out of 12 episodes lol). It was nice to get a little more  variety with the different cases. The season peaked with Yuki-Onna and I'm sad we didn't see her again, but it was still a solid season even after that.

She said "Konya wa harikirimasu," which would more or less translate to "tonight I'm going to be full of vigor."

It’s funny cause this season has a much higher score than season 1, but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much. Just felt like it was downhill after Yuuki Onna case. Didn’t hate it, but just never gripped me after that point. Probably just the cases that were done this season. Of course would love to get another season since I know what this franchise can do at its peak.

Kotoko casually destroys a guy and then leaves to have seggs with Kuro, this girl is just something else. Have fun with senpai tonight girl.

Pretty good season overall, the first part with Yuki onna was an absolute blast. Really loved her and wanted more of her but sadly she didn't show up later on. Maybe she'll show up in future seasons. The rest of the cases were pretty nice too. They had me intrigued and the conclusions were well done. It was great to see Rikka senpai again too. Always up for more Kotoko and Rikka senpai and now Yuki Onna too, so hopefully we'll get s3.

I can see some reasons why S1 is rated much lower than S2. Season 1 was all about talking, talking, talking. Especially at the beginning, it was, in my opinion, really bad. Even if the plot was good, the means to tell the story were not. It seems that the studio learned from it and season 2 was more dynamic from the start. Let's hope that season 3 will bring more cases as good as Yuki-onna.

Wow you've to have some next level of weird insecurity if you killed your wife just because you thought she'd leave and start living with some other man lol. But hey that's the kind of individuals we get in this series. That friend did deduce everything but it was Kotoko who gave the final blow. Best of luck living with guilt.. given you don't commit something like suicide going forward.

This season had more cases than the first one, but I still think I liked them equally. Though same sentiment with Yuki-onna like the others, wish we saw her one final time :(

I need more of this series. Well they should make one anyways, as we still know the bare minimum about Rikka, supposed "main villain". So yeah up for a sequel any time.

It may be strange apparently, but I really liked this episode. No, it wasn't any great story or have any pulse-pounding action beats, just a day in the life of the little weirdo who became the Goddess of Wisdom to the supernatural beings of the world and can't escape that duty even when she's busy fortifying for sexytimes with senpai lol

If anything I'd argue that this episode encapsulates everything that the story's world has to offer in a bite-size chunk. Dialogue heavy mystery? Check. Kotoko being absolutely ruthless in resolving it? Check. World-and-Kotoko-weary senpai? Check. Kotoko being vulgar? Hahahaha triple-X check there. And then the two of them move on to live as much of a normal life together as they can manage.

Definitely one of my favs for the season and hope to see a third sometime.

I couldn't tell if this episode was genuine or not on two occasions this episode, lol. Well, that's a first, I think.

Some serious insecurities on the part of the perpetrator. How messed up must one be to think it's okay to kill his/her partner to ensure that he/she doesn't end up happier with someone else? And then conveniently placing guilt on top of it just to brush away the inconvenience and then mingle in back to society, of course it wasn't going to be as easy with the [s]Kokuzo Bosatsu[/s}Goddess of Wisdom around. It's hilarious how perfectly the whole unagi, sex appeal and the friends casually having a conversation on one of their wives' death, wasn't expecting such a finale but I'll take it.

In general, this season felt more or less like the previous one but the teasing between the main couple elevated a notch, lol. And hey, I enjoyed that, lol. On a serious note though, I'm glad that the arcs were shorter this time around. In particular, the Yuki-onna story was really good but I also enjoyed the Otanashi family murder mystery quite a bit too. How she manipulated the granddaughter gave me chills on my spine.

Going to go with a 7/10 for this, certainly enjoyed this more than S1. Wouldn't mind a third season at all...

I was hoping the final episode of 2nd season could be a bit more contemplative and reflective, substantiating on why Kuro could accept and love Kotoko despite her inhumanness. The episode instead focused on a random encounter case. Still, not too bad.

I liked Yuki-Onna arc a lot but not so much the rest, like I enjoyed them but none of them kept me engaged, weird way to end the season too with such a short case, heck it would have been better to end it last episode having Kuro reflect on the relationship and keeping that doubt for the audience to keep reading or better yet a new season.

In the end, he got what he wanted, them being together forever lmao.

I really enjoyed season 2 for being more fun mystery cases rather than just one dominating case for many episodes like season 1. However, with the way they chose to end season 2, I'm really hoping they expect to have a season 3. Overall it was a pretty unorthodox format for an episode I didn't expect, but I did enjoy it.

I feel that Kotoko has really grown on me as a character at this point.

She says 今夜は張り切ります, pronounced  Konya wa harikirimasu

harikiru is a compound verb of haru (to stretch) + kiru (to cut) and it means:

  • to be in high spirits
  • to be full of vigor (vigour)
  • to be enthusiastic
  • to be eager
  • to stretch to breaking point

(I don't think she meant that last meaning, though it does evoke an interesting mental image)

When did I miss the point when where Kotoko and Kuro became an actual couple? Not, Kuro tolerates her and can only be with her, but an actual couple that has sex? Is it that Japanese thing about holding hands? Is that how the story told us their relationship became serious?

I think season 1 had higher highs but this season was more consistent with the stories. I think everyone agrees which mystery was the best one this season. I still think its weird that random people create all these elaborate theories and have conversations about it, even if that's the way the story is told. It's like saying a lot of people in the world are smart when the truth is the exact opposite. But it's still a show I can recommend to people if they don't mind over exposition. 8/10 season.

Is it really so strange a man would kill a woman out of jealousy? It's a crime that been happening for millennia and men aren't going to stop killing women anytime soon. In the southern USA where I live the actual laws favor murder and abuse. They use religion to justify their oversight by claiming a marriage shouldn't be governed by the state. And it's not like wife murder, or husband murder for that matter is so unusual.

Just because you personally don't think murder is the solution doesn't mean someone else agrees. That's kind of the point of laws. To punish people that take that path, assuming they actually get caught.

I did some research and some unagi can cost 91 dollars a meal at some places. And unagi is on its way to going extinct, so if you want to try it, maybe eat some sooner rather than later.

This was an interesting way to wrap up season 2 with an episodic case of the guy being so possessive about loving his wife that killed her so that no one could have her in a fear that she would leave him for another man. In a state of karmic retribution, her spirit will now be with him forever, whether he likes it or not. You reap what you sow, man...

His friends deductions about him killing his wife was pretty spot on, but he didn't go for the final blow. That was where Kotoko, who was in the same restaurant earlier, made her move and was quick and straight to the point in dealing that final blow onto the possessive man. Even more impressive than that, was her vulgar words that she had no shame in boasting to the guy.

Honestly, I thought I couldn't be any more surprised by how far she could go with what she says, but Kotoko still surprises me with her vulgar words. I love it! XD

Overall, I feel that this second season was an improvement over the first season. Granted, this season hit the high points the same way that the first season did, but it felt more consistent with its cases rather compared to how dragged out the Steel Lady case was in the first season.

So the current MAL score, at the time of writing this post, for season two is pretty spot on in my opinion. I wouldn't mind a third season if one ever happens. =)

Damn men be staring at Kotoko bruh. Those men be having a serious conversation while Kotoko is just enjoying her food.

Kajio killed his wife and now the ghost of the wife wanders around him and he has heavy sleeping problems and whatnot and he thought that if he turned himself in by the police then all would be over and done with, which was wrong because Kotoko was there to prove him wrong, she literally spit out so many facts that Kajio was on the floor lmao. Well he just have to bare with it and move on with his life, she will eventually get bored of it.

I didn't even know that Kuro took on so many jobs, what an madlad, well at least Kuro & Kotoko can enjoy their meal together and Kotoko still wants to go on a date with him. Those 2 will be always together forever, at least I hope so.

Loved this season, I mean its still the same but its either you watch it or don't watch it.

What the hell was that???

I think this episode perfectly encapsulates just how absurd this show is. It felt like a fever dream from start to finish.

Who acts like these two guys??? It's one thing to have the main character of a detective show act always cool and collected, maybe some of the supporting cast too. But this anime makes it seem like 100% of the Japanese population is made of sociopaths who can talk about really heavy themes without showing any emotion.

I was going to give this show a 7 just because it managed to be more entertaining and less repetitive than last season, but the writing and dialogue in this last episode cannot be excused. Watching this made me actually angry and lowered my opinion of the material. 6/10 overall, and will not be watching a 3rd season if one gets made, for whatever reason.

On the one hand, I enjoyed this season for having much more briskly-paced cases for Kotoko to solve, rather than having something go on too long like Steel Lady Nanase did in season 1. Well, the family murder stuff almost did, but just about avoided overstaying its welcome and had enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. The yuki-onna arc was excellent and the pinocchio arc was pretty solid as well, while this finale and the family murder was just okay (and I completely forgot the brief Rikka interlude for a while, so that says a lot). So, in all those senses I enjoyed this season a fair bit more than season 1, which I already enjoyed quite a lot.

On the other hand, I didn't enjoy the extent to which Kotoko and Kuro felt like side characters this season. Yes, they ultimately were the ones to resolve each case, but it felt like they primarily slipped into the background in favour of the characters being focused on for each case. And while this definitely worked in the yuki-onna arc's favour in particular, I think a lot of the charm season 1 did have came from Kotoko acting like a gremlin and bantering with Kuro while also getting to see her in action "solving" the cases. We didn't really get anywhere near as much of that side of things this season, and also much less of Kotoko telling convenient lies to "solve" cases rather than outright fixing things. In that sense, this season was somewhat disappointing and I would have preferred cases which focused more on supernatural protagonists and hence pushed Kotoko and Kuro centre stage (e.g. the snake case from season 1).

What that means is that, while I've definitely enjoyed both seasons of In/Spectre a lot, I've also had considerable reservations about and criticisms of both; so close to the perfect mix in both, yet just short of it.

7/10 again, but once again so close to an 8.

Snow princess was when this season peaked  while still miles better than the first that was still a pretty low bar, also something i have noticed this author really likes to make all his murder cases on either woman or wives    this murderer killing his wife was all at the butt of a joke for Kotoko's sex drive  which was not what i was expecting..

the writing overall was pretty decent with the amount of bullshiting going on with the rich family case had me fooled '

anyways.. i binged watched the whole season just now and I can say for sure that this season was far more enjoyable than S1.. Yuki-Onna arc, Pinocchio, the Asleep Murder and Now this Episode's Unagi Murderer..

All of these cases felt like they had a lot of life in them.. Especially Yuki-Onna

Waiting for Season 3.. But for some reason I doubt we'll ever get a sequel to it..
