Kadokawa opened an official Twitter account for the Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series on Monday, announcing that after a nine and a half year hiatus, author Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrator Noizi Itou's original franchise will receive a new installment on November 25. The new novel, titled Suzumiya Haruhi no Chokkan (The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya), will be available to pre-order on September 1.

Consisting of three separate stories including one original new entry into the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise, the novel will be more than 250 pages long. The titles featured include the short story Atezuppo Numbers (Random Numbers) released in Itou's Haruhi Hyakka art book in 2013, Nanafushigi Overtime (Seven Wonders Overtime), which was published in Kadokawa's 30th anniversary The Sneaker Legend magazine in 2018, and the new story Tsuruya-san no Chousen (Tsuruya's Challenge).

Synopsis (Tsuruya's Challenge)
An email is sent to the SOS Brigade's direct address, which is rarely used. The sender was Mr. Tsuruya who is currently away from school while traveling. Attached to the email saying, "I'm asking you to answer, I'll ask everyone to give me the answer." It was a challenge from Mr. Tsuruya to the SOS Brigade.

Tanigawa and Itou began serializing the light novel series in The Sneaker in 2003. The 11th and latest volume Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyougaku (The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya) was published in May 2011 (pictured right). The series has a cumulative 20 million copies of its volumes in print. Yen Press published the novel in English and shipped the tenth volume in November 2013.

Kyoto Animation produced a television anime adaptation in April 2006, airing out of chronological order. The anime was rebroadcast linearly in 2009 with the second season. The Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya) anime film adapting the fourth volume premiered in February 2010.

Gaku Tsugano serialized a manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Shounen Ace magazine from September 2005 to September 2013. Yen Press published the manga in English between October 2008 and November 2014.

Nice! Haruhi was what really got me into anime and I really liked the manga adaptation as well. Maybe I should start reading the LNs?

Whoa, is the franchise still alive? I thought it left the mainstream after the controversial second season and the Aya Hirano scandal.

Wow, this is seriously incredible! Congratulations to the fans!

I know there's a lot of people waiting for more Haruhi Suzumiya content following the Shoshitsu (Disappearance) movie, and here it is I suppose.

Now, here's to hoping KyoAni will adapt and make a mastery out of this too!

Might just be heaven's call for me to finally give this series a shot...

this has gotta be the last entry right? i cant imagine that the series will continue for much longer

hopefully KyoAni can adapt the rest of the story. Having Satelight for the Nagato Yuki-chan anime just isn't the same...

Congrats to all the Haruhi fans! God knows (heh) you've waited long enough.

Hopefully this raises the probability that someday a studio will pick the series back up and finally adapt all the post-Disappearance LN content (doubt KyoAni would come back to it, though).

Huh. I haven't been following and thought they just released a new one far between, not that they haven't for nine years.

Just to note. This volume is a short story collection. It's likely not the end. At least, not officially, since I'd imagine a full length novel would have the true ending. Whether Tanigawa will go back on hiatus after this is a mystery, but the fact that he wrote three short stories in the last two years suggests he may have gotten his drive back. Also, the fact that there's now an official Haruhi social media page makes me hopeful that there won't be any more radio silence.

EDIT: Yen Press has announced that the translation will be released digitally on the same day as Japan, with a print version following later. In addition, books 1-11 are being reprinted, so you don't have to burn a hole in your wallet to get them anymore.

Oh shit. Well that's definitely great news even just for the fact that it means the series is still alive. I hope they give us that 3rd season some day but if not then I'll definitely read the novel when it's finished.

So there's a chance Haruhi Suzumiya is coming back to the spotlight, huh? Maybe I'm gonna pick up my scattered motivation and actually start the LN series aswell (post-Disappearence of course).

Awesome news for anyone that has followed the series long enough, even though I have yet to read the LNs, the last movie really got me loving the series, something like this is indeed very promising to anyone that had any hopes we would ever see the series getting an ending one day.

So in 2029 then?

It is pretty easy to figure it out it is referring that the last volume was released 9 years ago.

None of that would have anything to do with the source material. It was on hiatus due to the problems on the author

I didn't say that. I meant that after the disappearance of the franchise from the mainstream, I did not hear anything more about it.

The hope for S3 has been restored!!

I remember it was a big deal when the last volume dropped, the movie was still new and people were really enjoying the franchise. Hoping this new LN bring Haruhi back into the mainstream.

Fucking finally...! I have fucking missed this series since first experiencing it all through the anime in 2010.
I'm not sure when but I should start reading the novels one day.

I hope they reboot the anime with a fuller adaption to the novels to later have more content until they get to this latest upcoming volume and more after.

Nice! I'll admit I was a little disappointed to hear it's a compilation with two previously-published stories, BUT STILL. (Random Numbers was kinda cute tho.)

If this is what it takes to push Haruhi back into the spotlight, then I'm pretty happy with the news. Hell, I'm even more excited for the novels getting reprinted in English. The prices on some of the physical editions are just absurd. I'm hoping they use Noizi Ito's art for the paperback covers this time around.

I'm hoping for an anime reboot first over a sequel so that we can get a fuller adaption from the novels and have more content later when the anime reaches this latest upcoming new story.

It's just a new short story volume, so the plot won't move forward.
Most of the content of that volume will be shoprt stories already available in other format as well so they're only news in book format.

Technically, it's not " revived", the story was interupted in the middle and put in hiatus coz the author was doing something else.

I personally really enjoyed this series. It really stands out for it's ideas even today compared to a lot of trashy Rom-Com Sols these days. This show really was ahead of its time. How long can I expect for this to be adapted. I sure that considering the success of the latest anime installment The Disappearance of Haruhi they would like to do ASAP.
Subjectivity is a joke on MAL. If you implicitly bring in subjectivity in your counter argument, you've already lost the debate. Also this website is a fankid infestation , have pity on those kids by ignoring there quotes as they have absolutely no clue what exactly is going on.
