Seriously what's up with some people. It's a female character groping another female character with tentacles. This can't be bad because she's not a man.

Can't even believe that I had expectations from Alicization. I used to be an SAO fanboy in the past but with the trash writing I have been witnessing after the first part of Alicization, I am slowly turning into a hater.

Honestly, the last season was the worst I have ever seen, it made even GGO look good. I hope that this season doesn't turn out to be that bad but after the premiere, it seems hopeless.

Female virtual character in a fictive world does fun stuff to a femal ficional character's virtual avatar in a virtual reality game - and people complain? :D

I liked the episode because of the actoin later. And the tentacle scene was fun (comedy) - with that pig (orc) guy.

Also I like the light-armored sword type fighting. (Like Leafa with her wind magic and how she then destoyd the female general.)

It was so funny seeing Kaji and Taketatsu's characters together. I thought it was funny that Kaji tried to save his wife. For those who don't know, Kaji Yuki and Taketatsu Ayana are married irl.

Though yes it was once again unnecessary and too long of a scene

Do you really call that a rape scene? Do you know what a rape is for real? If it's rape for real I don't know what to say. This was a simple torture in my eyes.

You may have blinked for the 5 seconds the frame showed a tentacle hovering inches away from Leafa's genitals followed by a close up of her face as it is heavily implied that she's been penetrated.

I didn't want to see this. Hell, I didn't even watch the previous season and I just came to see if SAO has gotten any better and they stick a rape scene before the halfway mark in the very first episode. The writer is deranged.

What of that was a rape? I can't see, at this point everything is a rape.

I think she was not penetrated, she felt pain even with the others, so. I think we should try to ask to someone who read the novels, but I don't think there are evidences even there.

He's right it was a "kind" of rape not 100% but it wasn't a simple torture in my eyes if this would be real

I just hate how Kawahara uses sexual assault as a crutch to make his writing have more shock value and have more impact, but it just comes across incredibly desperate and works to no effect in terms of making the story more impactful, or making me hate the characters so much that I want Kirito and everyone else to slaughter their asses. I would like to think that he has matured as a writer over time, but he keeps on pulling this same old trick over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.

He wants this SAO to be a series that has everything - action, drama, romance, and so much more deeper elements into the world and story, but by pulling off dumb tricks like this to bring more impact, it just does a disservice to himself and his own work. I've seen anime where they have scenes that have sexual assault to degrees where it's actually really well written and pisses me off against the antagonist and not the writing, but SAO is just not the case. And it does this too many times too in nearly every edition/arc of this.

I'm not sure where you're seeing rape or even sexual assault in this instance. Assault yes, sexual no. Also for the record, there's never been an instance of actual rape in SAO, it's only ever gone as far as sexual assault, but you do you i guess.

Squeamish fellows should better ready themselves because this surely wasn't the last rapey scene this season.

Lmao, this coming from the community that unironically watches and defends shitty ecchi and heavy-"fanservice" shows that gets passed as "art". Not trying to defend SAO but y'all aren't going to say anything when shitshows like Irozuku Reviewers, Prison School, High School of the Dead and many more that relies heavily on underage high school girls with big-bouncing breasts, panty-shots and also sexual assault exist (intentional and unintentional)? Hell, you even have literal kids-- Oh..I mean "lolis" because there's clearly a difference --that's heavily sexualized but of course, no one bats an eye.

I hate these types of scenes too but how come I'm not seeing these types of criticisms against the shows that I just listed?

Also, if you're going to give me that argument "OhH, tHeY'Re jUsT dRaWiNgS" then don't even bother cuz I'm just going to ignore your comment.

The point is the rape was out of no where and Leafa's awkward decisions before being tortured really makes you think this whole scene was all pointless. The thing is rape is something that has to be used in the story at the right timing and place. The author here likes to put rape in at random where it contributes absolutely nothing to the story. For a good rape example look at berserk: The setting is always gruesome and I'll admit rape is a constant feature, but if you look at gut's (aka the real black swordsman) reaction to seeing his beloved casca being rape, it gives meaning to his motives to which will further advance the plot. The rape here is just straight up incarnal desire with nothing to add forward, and Leafa could of easily stopped being a clutz but chose to act that way and then suddenly changed her attitude when she was free. We literally can't understand what she was thinking which makes it even more unbelievable so why did the author put rape? It's because his writing is all flash and empty in story depth. Anyways I'm watching this shit show to the end so I ain't dropping.

Actually, I was also really disturbed. I love SAO from the bottom of my heart, watched countless times first series but WTF, really? Was it really necessary? It's so fucking tasteless when it doesn't contribute somehow to the plot (and it didn't in this case) Yeah, I can somehow imagine this was a trigger for Lilpilin but nevertheless it wasn't fun or entertaining or anything.

And I was actually shocked that it startled me. I watched tons of shit like anybody here but it just didn't feel right. It's my personal opinion. On the other side, maybe this is how I should feel like this, maybe this was author's plan.

I remember in first season when guys tried to rape this two appretiance of Kirito and Eugeo and I didn't feel like this. – yeah, I know how it sounds but you know what I mean...

I love how people here complain about the issues of tentacles and sexual assault implications to justify this as objectively bad, yet don’t even bat a fucking eye at something like the straight-up rape sequence in the OG Berserk and in the third movie of the Golden Age trilogy. It’s fucking hilarious.

“But there’s deeper themes and writing backing the latter.”

So what? It’s still the same visual context. I only have a problem with this if it’s an actual major theme redundantly used over and over. I know a few such shows that dared to do that.

Does this mean we’re supposed to not be fazed by it? No, ofc it’s gonna be uncomfortable. It’s not supposed to be something you’re a-okay with, and that’s also for anything of similar nature.

Just saw the scene, and I gotta say... This looks like a f**K up by the animators. This scene wasn't written this way in the light novel. I can see why so many people are interpretating this as rape. I hope someone at the studio gets called out for this. I'm expecting not tho.

I don't think anything as bad happens to sinon when she fights vecta. It gets close tho. How that scene plays out is again going to depend on the animators

That’s not what happens in the light novels and the scene of Leafa itself was very different in the novels. A1 - Pictures took the decision to make it look darker and it become a completely different scene, like what happened with Sinon and her friend in GGO arc. By the way, I’ve not read the web novel but I’m curious now, I’ll try to search and see.

Here I was hoping that Alicization could be a decent perhaps even good arc of the horrible cashgrab anime that is Sword Art Online, but boy was I wrong. This show cannot be saved it just keeps relying on fanservice and returning the characters instead of investing in the new characters and give them screentime. Not to mention that all the characters that are returning just become instantly overpowered, but whatever probably just watching this to tell people to not watch this.

I noticed that a lot of people reference this so I thought I'd give my experience. The scene in GGO was NOT an A-1 original. I read both the Japanese Dengeki release and the English Yen Press release and it seems like Yen Press took out some details when they published it. The Dengeki release said that Death Gun was groping one of Sinon's breasts and got distracted from the pleasure and Sinon took the chance to deck him in the face. I stopped reading past volume 14 but I feel that the English and the Japanese release had differences in volume 17 as well though I can't be sure. I do recommend that you try checking out the original web novel and the Japanese release of the novel.

I think some people just can't handle something like this ...
It's fine really, I won't judge for that. But personally I don't feel it's something that bad it can't even be talked about, or represented in other medias.

Besides, it's fictional here. It serves as development, or simply to provoke the viewer, making it hate something/someone or feel bad for something/someone.
