The editorial department of the Dengeki Bunko imprint announced on Friday that Satoshi Wagahara's Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!) light novel will end with the 21st volume on August 7. The volume was originally planned for a July 10 release, but has now been rescheduled in light of the new coronavirus situation.

Synopsis
In the world of Ente Isla, the Demon Lord Satan has attempted to conquer humanity using an enormous army of demons. But when he almost succeeds, mankind's champion, Hero Emilia, thwarts his plans, forcing him to retreat into a portal that leads to a world unbeknownst to him—Earth.

Along with his faithful servant Alsiel, Satan stumbles upon the modern-day city of Tokyo without any knowledge of the world itself. Completely out of their depth, they gain some information from a police officer, but Satan still has one more problem—money. In order to survive with his greatly diminished powers, he guises himself as a human named Sadao Maou, lives in an apartment, and becomes a part-timer at the fast food restaurant MgRonald's. Determined not only to conquer Ente Isla but also Earth, Sadao strives to become a full-time employee in his job, as he believes that it would be a step forward in his conquests.

Things begin looking up for the once all-powerful demon as he ventures through his everyday life—his job, his home, and his relationships. However, a major setback pops up when Emilia, the hero who drove him out of Ente Isla, suddenly appears... [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Wagahara originally submitted the comedy fantasy novel under the title Maoujou wa Rokujou Hitoma! (The Devil's Castle within a Six-tatami Room!) at the 17th Dengeki Taisho awards in November 2010 and won the Silver Prize along with Antiliteral no Arcanist. Dengeki Bunko began publishing the novel featuring illustrations by 029 (Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de) the following February and shipped the 20th volume in December 2018. Hataraku Maou-sama! has a cumulative 3 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Akio Hiragi began drawing a manga adaptation in Dengeki Daioh in December 2011, which has 16 volumes in print as of on March 10. Kurone Mishima (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!) serialized the Hataraku Maou-sama! High School! spin-off in Dengeki Maoh from May 2012 to February 2015.

White Fox produced a 13-episode television anime in Spring 2013, covering the first two volumes. Funimation simulcast the show with subtitles and released it on Blu-ray in July 2014.

Yen Press licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English in August 2014 and released the 15th manga volume and 16th light novel volume on February 25 and April 28, respectively. The company also published the high school spin-off manga between August 2015 and October 2016.

Wagahara and 029 published a spin-off volume titled Hataraku Maou-sama no Meshi! last February. Uoji Sada launched a manga adaptation based on the volume on Kadokawa's ComicWalker website in August of the same year. The first volume went on sale on March 10.

Sad to see it go, especially when the anime hasn't gotten a second season this whole time.

There is still the chance that we get 2nd season, because at final release of the novel could on the cover the announcement for a TV-sequel be. Where then we would be a bit more patient, and wait for the possibility...

Season 2 such little hope. Dammit if bleach can get its anime back (I know a major difference of popularity and sales comparing the two) then I guess anything is possible!

Really enjoyed the first season. But a prospective second season seems bleak now that the original material is going to end.

I have a question. I am following manga adaptation of the novel. How much of the story from the novel is already adapted?

Not much, I think they never adapted more than 2-3 volumes, they have at least enough material for 4-5 more seasons.

At the time I never got into the LN because it wasn't available, when the anime aired, pity.
Maybe now the time is right.

Always use this to check how far anime adapts LN material.
Like you can see there, only 2 LN volumes were adapted, and I believe there are already 17-20 volumes out.

A friend of mine has a great theories that i think are very logical :

1st - the marketing strategy that they use is same as NGNL that goes "The anime is a sales boost for the Ln". Or the "buy the LN to see the whole story".

2nd - now that the LN is over my friend thinks they will now cash in for the Anime.

3rd (Maybe) the planning stages is already in KyoAni , but on HOLD. You know why.

Good, finally. Disappointing concept with a mediocre story but it's always good that original source materials end.
Not that it deserves a second season though.

Well, there goes any chance for a second season. What a shame, it's one of the few actually good LNs to have been adapted into anime.

I took a look at the website you sent to me, and found out that LN volumes 1-2 were adapted into the anime. But my question was how much of LN was adapted into the manga where the story is considerably further compared to the anime. So, I am not sure whether we understood each other...?

I like how the majority of the replies here are just people begging for a second season of this. Which I would totally agree - except that there are shows I can think of that also need another season in which I am more wanting to do so than The Devil is a Part-Timer and also NGNL.

I was just about to write a post to ask if there are any plans to make a second season, then I read your post and my brain was like: "Man, don't you think that it's better that they didn't make a second season? If they did, the show might become stale and remembering Maou-sama from then on might instead leave a sour taste in your mouth."
That's just my opinion and I hope that the people that have been longing for a second season get it eventually.

Happy quarantine!
