Tell me who is your favorite anime character you think is most manly and why. Are you basing it only on looks, or on action? Maybe a bit of both. |

Admiral Bittenfeld from the legend of the galactic heroes has the ideal male look and uses the ultimate masculine tactic of forceful breakthrough. He also commands his own cool looking blitzkrieg unit. |

Bardock, either the canon or non-canon version of the character. Badass, strong, smart, with a great design and one of the best side-characters of the DB universe. |

I mean, Taichi from Chihayafuru looks like a complete fruit, but he's probably one of the most manly characters I can think of in terms of behavior. A decisive leader who can take charge of the situation when need be, willful and can take that and use it to accomplish goals and patch up shortcomings, willing to be self-sacrificing and concerns himself with the well-being of people he cares for, et cetera et cetera. If we just mean gar, though, I guess I see Kaiji called gar a lot, so there you have it, since Kaiji is my second favorite male character. But idk, I do prefer behavior to appearance or fights and stuff in determining masculinity. There's qualities I consider more manly than somebody who can walk around and beat everyone up and look kind of disgustingly muscular. |

Normally they are more like a parody in my eyes, at least these like the Dragonball characters or that dude from Fist of the North Star. These are comedically over the top. But there are surely some really great ones. And of course first place takes Roy Mustang and I'm disappointed of all of you that nobody listed him so far. |

Guts from Berserk Generic answer, I know, but name me on, ONE character who is more manly, more badass than Guts. Sure, Guts may technically not be as muscular as characters like Kenshiro, or half the characters in Baki. But when it comes to his personality and accomplishments? Well let's see: Guts has lived his whole life as a struggler: from being a child soldier abused by his adopted father, being: raped as a child by a guy hired to rape him by his dad, who he later kills, to being betrayed by his best friend who not only had demons eat the Band of the Hawk, who were basically the closest thing Guts had to a true family, to then raping his girlfriend, leading to Guts chopping his fucking arm like a madman To then fighting demons 5x his height (keep in mind that Guts himself is pretty tall), whose appearances alone are so horrific, they would traumatize any normal human being. I mean, how do you explain in words what the fuck these things are?: At the point I'm at the Berserk manga, there hasn't been a single Apostle Guts has killed without breaking at least half the bones in his body. I mean this is the guy who: When fighting the Count Apostle, broke his limbs, biological arm. So how does he keep fighting the Apostle? He picks up his 200 pound sword with his fucking mouth and metal arm. Not his hand, his metal ARM: Oh, and he also fought 100 dudes, but that's not much compared to fighting the Apostles. Guts isn't the most powerful character in anime or manga. Compared to even characters like Naruto, Goku, Saitama, etc, he's incredibly weak. But what makes Guts badass isn't how strong he is for a normal human, it's how he never gives up even against all odds. If you fought Guts one on one, even if you had years of fighting experience, even if literally every bone in Guts' body was broken, I can almost guarantee he'd still whoop your ass. I feel like the idea of manliness through Guts isn't about how muscular you are: it's about how strong you are. Not just physically, but mentally. |

The 2016 and onwards adaptations cover the rest of Berserk, but the animation is so god-awful that it's almost impossible to enjoy the story. I'm going to have to recommend just reading the manga. The art for the Berserk manga is the best thing I've seen. I was also hesitant to read Berserk since at the time I wasn't much of a reader, like you, but I decided to read it, and I absolutely love it. |

Also if you are going to watch the 97' anime, skip the 1st episode, it will just confuse you, it takes place after the rest of the show (golden age Arc wasn't the beginning of the manga, but it is the beginning of the story), even after the rest of the show you will be left wondering what the hell happened inbetween the last episode and the 1st |
