What's your reason for continuing a series you didn't like?

Was it because it was short? Were you hoping it would improve? Were you just too invested in it to drop it?

I finished Elfen Lied for the first reason.

I usually do that with seasonal anime because I get to episode 6 or so before realizing it is shit and decide "I'm already this far invested in it, might as well finish what I started." Usually if the series is short, I will just finish it over a longer period of time so I can at least say I finished it.

The only show I've completed that I genuinely hated, mostly do to the MC, was Kurogane no Linebarrles. The only reason I didn't drop it or give it a lower score is because I'm a sucker for mecha anime. Also I was really hoping for the main to die, so I had to keep watching for that.

I just don't like having to drop an anime because it makes me feel like I've left something incomplete. I don't know how to describe it it's almost like a guilty feeling I get. Especially because I don't forget when I've dropped an anime, like, I'll just be enjoying something and then I get hit with a thought of 'you never finished _____' and it kind of just ruins my mood.

Depending on how far in I am I'll usually just try my best to finish it because I guess I'm secretly hoping it will get better even if I know it won't and I'll feel good about myself for completing the series. I only drop an anime if I really can't stand it or just get so bored I would rather do literally anything else.

Also because watching something shitty helps you appreciate good shows later on

I’d say just for a false obligation to keep watching it. Sometimes I also just want to watch bad shows.

Just because I do not have time and the anime wis not worthy.

Also because there are too many episodes, example I started One Peace, but I won't watch it anymore, too many episodes.

I've got a favorite character in it. I watched all of Kuroko no Basket despite finding it boring and moreover I started hating it when all the superpower bullshit started but out of my love for my boi Akashi I continued.

It depends:

If they are seasonal, I like to end them just because I only have to watch one episode per week so it is not that waste of a time.

If the series have less than 36 episodes I can tolerate it, unless it is something stupidly bad (which usually I don't pass after the third episode).

If it is a long series, I usually try to see if there is anything good behind it before dropped it. I watched 106 episodes of Gintama and did not like it a little bit, but I tried because I wanted to see the Kabuki arc (which obviously I did not get into, I couldn't).

Most of the time I just hope that it might get better, there is a reason I started it in the first place though. And I might get whatever it was that I wanted from it some times later along the line. Sometimes it's also indeed too short to not finish it.

I wanted to see how it ended. Honestly it pays off sometimes as shows get better with later episodes and it becomes one of my favorites. It doesn't always happen and sometimes the show gets worse but that is a risk that I am willing to take.

To get to a better sequel season: BNHA s1
In hopes of it getting better because it has a high rating: Bungou Stray Dogs
Because the first few episodes were fantastic: Death Note
So I can rate it and leave a bad review: Tiger & Bunny

Most of the time when I hear a lot of positive feedback about something then I try it and don't like it right away, I might stick with it to see what the hype is about. Sometimes it ends up being worth it, but most of the time my first impressions are right, though if I absolutely hate something early on I will usually just drop it and not think much about it.

Depends on why I didn't like it.

If its a boring series, than my reason would be to finish it so I can give it a low score.

If the series pisses me off (most of the anime might be good however), than I watch it until the end, to see if the anime will redeem itself, if not I give it the lowest score, out of spite.

Usually the reason is that I wanted to watch something bad. Or it can also be because the anime is controversial so I want to see it for myself, like Elfen Lied which you mentioned.

In all honesty, if it’s a short series I’ll complete it just so I can get the satisfaction of adding it to my completed list on MAL.

If I don't like it I will not force myself to watch it. Life is too short to waste it on bad series. I really don't like "it gets better later on" argument. I'm not gonna watch it just for that argument alone. (That's how I give up Hitman Reborn, Akame ga Kill etc.)

This for me applies to the more mainstream anime. Even if I am not enjoying it entirely, I usually still intend to finish it just to give it a justified rating and also to see what all the hype is about. A recent example for me is shield hero, I knew it was pretty popular so I sat through all the episodes and then finished it, regretting that I wasted my time on it rather than watching something better. I did give it a pretty low score, but I guess it was BARELY entertaining enough for me to keep going.

If its boring than I have to drop, but if I'm continuing to still watch the series. Than there most be something that I like about it. A character, music, the plot, or maybe the simple thought of "It had so much potential.".

Becasue the plot is still interesting and i wanna know how this dumpster fire ends. Or it could be just me being bored and wanting something to laugh at. The reason why i continue series are manifold and most of the time very unique to the show i decide to continue watching.

Only done it twice.

First time was with Death Note and it was because I was new and didn't know any better. Thank God that trashcan doesn't represent anime on the whole.

The second time was with Elfen Lied and despite it being an absolute nugget of pigshit wrapped in a blanket of horseshit, morbid curiosity compelled me to see it out. Learned my lesson there.

I like to think I give most things a fair chance, but life is way too short to waste time watching something that you're not enjoying.

I'm forcing myself to end Monogatari Second Season. First arc was great but next were worse and I'm stuck in 4th arc. I'm hoping that the last arc will be better and I want to watch next seasons (not now of course, it's too boring for me at the moment).

I didnt enjoy any of the Monogatari series, barely manage to finish the 1st season as I heard soo many good reviews

I enjoyed Bakemonogatari because it was something different, new for me. Later it started getting boring for me but still enjoying. In Monogatari Second Season it became too boring (too much dialogue).

It's just because once I reached a certain point in the series, I don't want to give up on it because that means I just wasted my time. I want to watch the rest to see if it can become better at some point (I only do that with shows that receive some very good criticisms, if it's known as being trash I won't even try... Actually I haven't even started yet a series known for being trash), or if I just started this show for one character and wants to see if this character was actually worth it instead of giving up before even meeting them. I always try to take something from any show I watch.

Didn’t particularly enjoy Fma brotherhood but I finished it because it was #1 on MAL, and I tried to watch it objectively. From that standpoint it really does succeed as an anime. The characters were also a major reason. It was also hella funny.
