Yes, Anime has been a pretty big part of my life for a long time, and I don't see myself giving them up.

Probably, but not as much as I do now. Even now, I rarely watch anime, because I'm busy with schoolwork and writing raps.

I've seen old people that were still fond of the same things they were fond of in their youth, so it's definitely possible. My interest has gone down a bit over the last decade, but I've never fallen completely out with anime, and I suspect my interest in anime will continue to fluctuate up and down, even as an old cripple who can't remember when the last time he showered was.

So you know how old folks homes today are always playing music and t.v from the 50s and 60s because it makes the old people nostalgic and stuff? I reckon, when I'm old and gray, the homes of the future will be playing anime on t.v and Eminem music, etc. So yeah, I'll probably be watching anime when I'm old.

That's way too far off in the future for me to think or care about in general, let alone something as specific as whether or not I'll maintain a hobby from my early twenties

Just gonna go with the flow and see where it ends up, if I do, then I do, and if I don't, then I don't

Anime will not be the same thing when we are old. I'm on the older end of the spectrum at 32 but most (~95% at a guess) of the people on here I bet are between 18 and 30. When we're all old (30+ years from now) anime will not mean the same thing it does today. It will be international. I don't want it to happen but I can't see any other future unless the movement to popularize and globalize anime comes to a schreeching halt.

People like myself and others who consider themselves purists in the sense of preferring anime remain "Japanese" (in the 2000-now otaku culture sense)* will probably go one of two ways.

*I don't want to debate semantics here. Had the debate way too much. If you have issue with my phrasing you just have to accept there are many people who see anime to be a certain style which often gets labeled as "Japanese" but obviously it's more complicated than that.

Option 1 is that the "Japanese" anime will live on in a limited way under a different name that will be impossible to guess. "Otakume" or something. The word "Japanese anime" won't do because Japan will be different and while there will be Japanese anime, I see the affects of globalization homogenizing most forms of artistic creativity. Country distinctions will fade away. Though of course this is another trend that could come to a screeching halt but it seems unlikely.

Which leaves option two where the "Japanese" style of anime disappears all but completely and people like myself will have a collection of horded anime which become like antiques in a way. The individuals (who disavow and don't relate to modern "anime") will become something like the collectors of movies from the late twentieth century, with no specific name for for their small, fragmented community.

To answer OP's question, yes, I will still watch anime when I'm old. But I'm pessimistic about the future of anime. I envision relating less and less to most of the anime being made and spending most of the rest of life watching stuff which has finished airing even today.

absolutely not. when I started this I already knew what I need to do. get in, watch the shit. get out. enjoy then get the heck out quick. I want to enjoy other things in life as well, I think I can't enjoy all things at a single lifetime but staying here in this anime world won't certainly help.

hopefully not, I probably would stick to anime I've always loved and rewatch that but I'd like to find myself immersed in other things and spend as much time as I do spend watching anime with other things.
I'd rather stick with manga than anime.

I'm 44, for some that can be considered already old I guess XD

But to answer the question, yes. I am watching anime, getting immersed way more than I did 20 years ago and I guess that trend will continue. Watching anime has grown from a more background entertainment to a main hobby for me; I wouldn't wanna miss it.
I only hope my eyesight will be as good in 20, 30 years as it is now XD

I've barely watched any anime in the last nine years.

I still like drawings. Right now I'm watching Avatar TLA, Samurai Jack season 4 and finishing up Batman: The Animated Series again. I've also spent the last like three months re-reading Akira, Battle Angela Alita and Blame!

So far my hobbies, aside from Youtube, haven't lasted very long so I'm not sure just how long I'll still be watching anime for. Being such a vast medium there's potential for me to never stop.

Usually 80% of the time I spend in any media or fandom is reconsuming and I haven't gotten to the rewatching stage in anime yet after 5 years of watching so by that math I should be here for a lot longer.

If I do continue to watch anime more than a year or so from now it will be pretty infrequent - maybe ten shows/movies combined per year, or somewhere in that ballpark.

I would expect that I will. If I won't like new series any more, like usual old person bragging about old times, I might still re-watch old stuff. Either way I can't quite imagine that I would stop watching anime entirely. Before I get old enough to get pension I might have less time for it, but I imagine I will always watch at least few episodes when I have time.

Define old?

If you're talking when i'm in my 50's or 60's then probably not or rarely at all.

If you're talking in the next 10 years for sure but probably only the new anime rather than what has previously came out plus what's new as I do now.

Very likely to the day i die. I may not viewing it the same as i was younger but i find anime/manga is now part of a world i live in, a life style of no other choice. Probably the closest thing to escapism until some epic conscious dive-in VR games are invented.

- Edit - I'd like to add:

Is like questioning if you will still be watching TV-dramas, movies, youtube or read a book when you are old.

I get that society will always pressure and judge people for continue a hobby that is meant for younger generations or perversion.

But it isn't illegal or mental insane for loving art and creation outside the defiling genres. The olds still love TV-dramas, read novels etc, anime can be in that list enjoy by the people that still know how to enjoys it.
