Simple reasons :

1) You can experience the same highs as before.

2) It can change the overall perception of an entire anime, probably for good (for eg - Re:Zero in particular)

3) You are unable to find anime in the current season that give you the same feel as the anime you watched and enjoyed earlier.

4) You are not guaranteed to remember every detail of your favourite anime over the years. Go to point 1)

Life is too short indeed, so you need to enjoy whatever you have within your grasp.

I usually only rewatch a series if it's been a really long time since I've seen it and I remember really liking it, OR if I'm getting a friend into it.

When I usually rewatch a show, it's through a reactor on youtube. Of course it's because I liked the show, but Im mainly there for the reactors personality.
Very often you also start seeing stuff you didn't notice the first time you watched the show. Interesting parallels, foreshadowing, all the rules and plot points coming in play before they were even explained. All that cool stuff.

Nicely put. Because sometimes threads like this looks like a bait, which may or may not be one and OP might actually want a legitimate explanations.

Back to the topic and to OP, anyways, I'll take the hook and bait and all. Thank you very much.

How blunt of you to quickly regard it as wasted. Let's just say time enjoyed wasting is time not wasted. To each their own, as always.

it helps if you didnt know stuff the first time you watched it. i didnt know about the john titor lore the first time i watched steins;gate so i missed some pretty obvious jokes, references, and just the entire internet phenomena revolving around that as a whole. the second watch was more enjoyable to me

because I enjoy the show and I don't see any reason agaist doing it again if I can enjoy it even knowing what is going to happen, and believe me, I've rewatched a fuckton of shows a fuckton of times.

Sometime i find it more enjoyable to rewatch something i like rather than watching something i don't know yet.

And i won't even try to consider rewatching as a waste of time, because logically watching any anime already a waste of time for me.

Because I love to rewatch things for old memories, remembering scenes I forgot and for the love of the characters etc. Sometimes you see details you didn't recognize the first time.
I don't really care about watching as much as possible. I won't remember 70 % of a show anyway, if I'm not really into it.

Re-watching is a weird thing, I have watched Inazuma Eleven 3 times. Do I regret it? No, cause it's a show that I hold dear to myself cause I was younger when I watched it. Sometimes, you just want to re-experience something, and re-watching is excellent for that purpose.

I almost don't rewatch anything, until now. I've watching anime for a lot of time so now I started to do it. It's nice to watch something that you loved after so much time with a new point of view. But I usually try new stuff to open my mind a bit.

Btw, I dislike people that watched 5 times the same show in less than a year, a lot.

There are two reasons I'd rewatch a series.
One) The series is so good (probably in my favorites) that rewatching it would be a nobrainer. I'd enjoy the time most likely.

Two) I considered a show bad years ago for whichever reason. Due to it's popularity I'll give it a second chance though. Maybe the mistake was on my side, mood-related or whatever.
Number two works occasionally. I did it with FLCL (which I still think sucks) and Hibike Euphonium (which turned out WAY better). The next anime would be Honey and Clover since after watching 3-Gatsu no Lion, it gave me a good grasp of the authors works. (they 're both from the same author)

So,yeah...

I rewatch for 4 reasons:

1) Enjoyment
2: Missed something the first time
3) Didnt understand the plot the first time
4) Refresher course for a new season

Yeah its a waste of time, but hey, its my time to waste. I do however only rewatch anime at night that way I can use the day time to watch anime I havent watched before. Its my little system I have set up.

Preference. Some people enjoy re-watching things they enjoyed before rather than picking something up that they may or may not enjoy. It's good to do it while waiting for a new season of shows to come out to refill your plan to watch.

You do know that there isnt an unlimited ammount of good anime right?
The ammount of anime that you will enjoy (unless you are a degenerate that likes SAO then you dont count since you have no taste or criticism whatsoever) personally is limited.
Dropping or finishing a show that is absolute garbage are painful experiences (that i for the life of me cannot understand. If you are going to give a show a 1 why the hell do you waste your time finishing watching it).
So rewatching something is sometimes the solution when you dont have any good anime in your "to watch list" or simply you arent interested into looking for a good anime for the time being.

So anyone that likes SAO has shit taste??? Wow you sir sound like a fucking elitist.

Why do Re-watch anime ?
Isn't it a waste of time re-watching old ones instead of watching new ones?

I want to hear your opinion.

As much as you watch anime again 90 times, you will lose the same amount of time as if you saw a new goddamn genius.
Stop wasting your time worrying about that.

Its not a waste of time, there are times that by re-watching them you notice different things and understand more stuff (Like with FLCL for example) Also, you'll be only re-watching what you like, so its not a waste of time.

Of course, I wouldn't be rewatching something "big" like One Piece, that would be a real waste of time (if watching that wasn't already a waste of time xP)

When I don't feel like going through a bunch of shitty anime to find a good one that I haven't seen, I re-watch what I already know is great. There's a lot more bad anime out there than good.

because it's enjoyable, why else would you engage in entertainment?
isn't it more of a waste of time to watch new stuff you don't even like than to enjoy something you love?

For three reasons:

1. To watch the other version of the show (sub/dub)

2. Enjoyment

3. To see if your opinion change on the anime.

Basically to experiment the enjoyment all over again. I personally don't rewatch too much anime myself, not counting movies, but when I do it's nice to revisit the hype, emotion, and love for a series.

Because finding more anime in genres that I enjoy becomes more and more difficult, so I watch things I know I love, not things that get ever more hit and miss, since I watched most of the high rated stuff that I am interested in early on.

There are things I'll go back and rewatch maybe a year or two afterwards. Mostly when I pick said series up on Bluray. I adore shows because they put me in a certain headspace. I go back to remember but also to judge whether I was correct in my initial judgement on some of the older stuff.

I've re-watched a lot of anime. My anime list would probably be double if re-watches counted as a completion. But I only really re-watch something when the thought of re-watching it comes to my mind. Usually I will be like... such and such anime was really good, I should give that shit a re-watch, and then before long I end up doing so. But I try not to re-watch all the time because I still want to add new anime to my list.

it really depends on the person and their preference. personally i LOVE re-watching so i don't see it as a waste of time. and i feel like sometimes you need to watch something more than once in order to appreciate it/understand it deeply. but that's just what i think
