Honestly, I would have to say Darker than Black was the edgiest anime I've seen.
Well, at least it's the first one to come to mind :P

People might disagree with me on the anime being edgy, but come on - even the name is edgy lol

I think "edgy" is a worthless label since people tend to slap it on anything that has a graphic scenes or main characters dying in it. Saying that something is "too edgy" and therefore bad is not an argument.

The answer is obviously Fate/Edge Night, the true sequal to Feito/0

So edgy some people didn't manage to finish it.

Blood-C and Dies Irae comes close, but both pale in comparisson to Fate/Edge. There's also Oregairu, that is the only anime able to reach the edge of Edge Night (just at times, however).

Truth. Edgy nowadays means something dark that I don't like but can't make a complelling argument against so I'm just gonna call it edgy. Almost as bad as pretentious. How dare anime try to tackle serious, complex, and controversial issues instead of just throwing boobs at us.

Alright In My Opinon A Edgy Anime is A Anime That Tries To Be Overly Dark By Throwing Pointless Amounts Of Violence or Nudity. Though A Lot Of Anime That Kill Off The Main Character Aren't Considered Edgy [Spoiler] Spikes Death In Cowboy Bebop and Phantom Blood's Jonathan Joestar's Death [Spoiler/]. And Anime With Graphic Scenes Such As Hellsing Ultimate, Physco Pass, Perfect Blue, Made In Abyss or Berserk Aren't Considered Edgy. Also If Someone Hates Edgy Anime, It Just Really Because Of What They Thought of The Anime and How They Think That A lot of The Violence/Nudity Was There For No Reason Made It Bad. Hope That Clarified A Lot About Edgy Anime. Some People Enjoy Edgy Anime Such As How I Enjoyed Akame Ga Kill, When They Cry, Deadman Wonderland and Danganronpa

Nope. Monster has that and I don't think it's really edgy. Edgy is like... Pretentious, tries too hard to be dark with random and forced elements that hardly fit, plot filled with pseudo intellectual nonsense just to appear mature when in reality it lacks meaning, tries to shock everyone with an unnecessary amount of blood thinking that'll make it better, plot holes suddenly covered with some bullshit they thought of in the middle of the story...

Describing things as "edgy" makes me cringe, because how the Internet uses it today is not even close what the word is supposed to mean—it's supposed to mean something cool, hip, or at the forefront of a trend. Almost the exact opposite of what it means now—something lame because of how hard it's trying to be cool.

Anyway, going off that stupid definition, the "edgiest" things I've ever seen would have to be Devilman (Crybaby is my favorite anime) and maybe Texhnolyze, I guess.

Berserk is up there, but I fucking hate Berserk.

You say "pointless amounts of death and nudity" and that is of course subjective as fuck. Attack on Titan is one of the I keep hearing people call "edgy" but is it really pointless that characters are dying in a world where most of humanity is wiped out and giant monsters are trying to kill everyone?
Of course you could say that the setting itself is edgy but then you're just hating the entire concept of the show, not just the way its being handled.
And I wasn't referring to killing the main character at the end. I was referring to characters from the main cast dying in general.
If you have something like Akame ga Kill where it's obvious as fuck that they're killing off the entire main cast on purpose to try and get a reaction out of the audience, you can call it out based on that. There's no reason to just call it "edgy" and act like you've argued your case.

lolololo. I've seen Hellsing, Psycho pass and Made in Abyss get called edgy in the same way as Akame ga Kill or AoT. Also Tokyo ghoul.
Oh and you just called Higurashi "edgy" so I think my point was made. Anything with a dark premise, mature themes, graphic violence or characters dying.
And look, this guy a few posts above me just called Serial Experiments Lain edgy.
Jesus fuck this is why I hate the word. These people apply it to everything they don't like as long as it has at least one of those above things I mentioned.

You are confusing "edgy" with "pretentious" (literally implying they are synonyms) but "edgy" is what I described while "pretentious" relates specifically to throwing concepts you don't understand into your work in an effort to make it seem more mature and intellectual. Constantly dropping random quotes from novels and philosophical works like Psycho Pass is a perfect example.
"Edgy" is basically slapped onto anything dark while "pretentious" (a far more valid concept although also misused a lot) is best described as pseudo intellectual.

But seriously, this entire thread just proves my point. Now I'm seeing Mushishi, Gurren Lagann, Mawaru Penguindrum, Clannad (I think that one might be a troll but still). Literally anything someone doesn't like that happens to be dark, has mature themes, death or graphic scenes (even if the character doesn't actually die) gets called "edgy". And I'm sure there's someone somewhere who would slap the label onto Monster (maybe some of those 672 people that rated it 1/10 for example).

I agree that "edgy" is a term that gets kind of a bad rap and isn't really useful when it comes to being critical. When post people talk about edgy, they usually mean edgy FOR THE SAKE OF being edgy and not to serve a greater theme or the plot. E.G. shows that try to use darkness, gore, and a bleak attitude in a way that feels like it's trying to pander to angsty teens rather than really tell the best story it can.

If we're going with that view of "edgy" definitely Magical Girl Site.
