Is this a common occurrence to some, or is it just me?

I just feel like Harry Potter isn't as interesting as say, Bakuman. HP is considered a childhood favorite, but I feel like I can't really jell into it like a manga.

I don't read any books outside of LN's and manga, so it's pretty common.

I loved Harry Potter more than any manga I've ever read, but sure, man. Whatever floats your boat.

Just remember that manga is a narrative-driven media whereas books cover a much wider range of genres other than anything having to do with storytelling. The former is mostly entertainment, the latter is mostly information.

To each their own, yes?
But i totally feel you, as i too am the type of person who reads more manga [And Light Novels] than reading an actual books.
To some people, books are harder to understand and my lecturer even comments on how a book is just someone reciting the same thing over and over again and those who read it are just itching to get to the end of it and mostly skipped the unnecesarry part.
It's time to play the Game folks!

I'm more selective with the books I read but I do both. I actually have more troubles getting into a book rather than a light novel

I pretty much read only manga. I read some reference-type books every so often but I haven't read a novel in quite a while.

Same, I rarely read since something sucked the fun out of it, I used to enjoy reading all those childrens' books that came with cereal but as I got older it got boring. Now all I read is Manga and the odd book.

I stopped reading actual novels ages ago.

It's probably because, how one of my shitty highs school teacher told me, I fail to see any specific details in novels. Like, if you ask me about a symbolic meaning of X event/item, I would have no fucking clue unless someone explains it to me. Reading has always been a problem and being bilingual fucked me up since it prevented me from being fluent in at least one of them.

With manga, everything is more apparent. It's easier to understand and follow. I also tend to like the stories manga have than in novels. (Yes, I have trash taste.)

I used to read young adult novels as an obsession.

You know, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, that kind of stuff.

I kinda stopped because I was spending too much on books that I most of the time only read once and then leave on the shelf to gather dust. *stares dramatically at my lonely bookshelf*

Plus anime and manga has taken over my interest now...

I still read fanfiction though. At least I can read words amirite?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that though, theres a lot of intelligent and thought provoking manga out there, such as Death Note which raises questions of morality and Monster.

I read manga, graphic novels and regular novels in roughly equal measure. (And always physical books) Sometimes I'll read only manga for a little while and then other times I'll read only novels; I go through little phases. All are great mediums, but I will say I am yet to read a manga that I would consider a 10/10, whereas 1984 by George Orwell blew my mind and is absolutely a 10/10 for me, as is the graphic novel Locke and Key.

It comes and goes in phases for me. Some months I'll really not be into reading prose and will instead go for manga, some months it's the other way around. At the moment I'm not feeling either, and am catching up on anime.

On the other hand, it has been a very long time since I read a book i.e. in dead-tree format. I've gotten very used to reading ebooks and fanfiction instead.

A manga is a real book, a pocket size book usually.

As for novels, maybe reading something else than Harry Potter and other teenager or so-called "young adult" litterature would help finding novels interesting. (to read stand-alone novels rather than series could also help)

Honestly, the only book series I ever read outside of the obligatory ones for school is Harry Potter.

Manga definitely has more my interest, although I'm more of an anime guy nonetheless.

I read both but I read infinitely more manga than books. My Goodreads yearly goal challenge is set to 750 books but my real goal is 1000. Obviously most of those are manga and graphic novels. I still read the same amount of 'actual' books (about 2-4 a month), but I enjoy manga SO MUCH MORE. I would read all day if I could (most days anyway).

I think it's fine!
I used to love reading books, but after a while I got bored of it.
And now i'm hooked onto manga! I haven't touched a story book in who knows how long.
I get really tired just by reading words, whereas in manga, there's drawings- visuals!
So I don't get bored hehe.
I feel very satisfied just by reading the manga due to the drawings.

Lol me too.

I read a lot of book when I was younger because my mom kept buying them for me and making me read, she had good intentions, but I didn't really want to. Now I read manga every week and I haven't read a book since early 2016.

I read books just as much as i read manga, the matter which is better is entirely subjective and dependent on your own preference. For me, i find books more detailed and thought provoking than i do Manga.

Because when i read a book, i have the freedom to vision how a character looks based on the description provided by the author. No matter how descriptive the author is on the matter, the picture you paint in your head is your own and that, to me, is the beauty of it.

Opinions vary, but for me, I haven't read a manga that was more interesting and thought provoking than Tolkien's work.

Manga, I could read forever though!

I also do use my kindle and kindle fire sometimes as I do buy the odd few normal books.

I've read a fuck ton of manga/comics/hentai in my life. Can't say the same for the normal books as well. Most of the time, they tend to have strong language, which requires your utmost attention. Sometimes it works well, if you're so into that world, otherwise it wasn't worth it. That's my motto.
