So Mercenary is traveling alone now..didn't take long for him to find someone to him out by the looks of it though. I didn't know Mercenary could cook so well! The new girl seems like a kind character. However, I'm not surprised that Mercenary decides to leave after such a short period of time.

Tbh, it felt kinda weird without seeing Mercenary and Zero together.

Looks like the wolf guy from one of the previous episode came back for another fight. My favorite part this episode was Zero's confrontation with 13 as she brings her A game against him. Quite a thrilling episode overall. Seeing Mercenary in his animalistic state is scary imo :o

So now our mercenary went looking for Zero's book without her huh. And Zero is laying on bed wounded because she umm, transferred the wound from mercenary to herself with magic.

I really like the feel of this anime though, I'm sure the two will make up in a couple of episodes. ;D

And GG wolf guy got owned again lol

Mercenary is traveling alone now. He stayed at a tavern for a short time, but had to leave early. Didn't know he could cook. Hordem came after him with some witches, but they double-crossed him. Mercenary almost ate someone. He almost got killed as well, but Zero took the blow and is now injured. I hope she's okay.

Ohhh, the constant appearance of the wolf guy got explained, he's been ordered by Sorena to protect her granddaughter. The pieces are coming together a bit.

That protection by Zero though, any hits he takes get absorbed by her. That's fucking crazy, Zero.

I liked the bit with the tavern, really shows how mad beastfallen can get when they are starving (she experienced it firsthand with the death of her mother i suppose?)

another short episode. i didnt realized it has passed 20 minutes, like every present episode.
the new girl plot yet again showed the base of human or animal society used to be in the past millions of years: profits and exploitation. i dont want to be discribed as "cold blood", but i have to say, the world has always been so "dark" but real.
that wolfman seems to know albus. its more interesting now. even though mercenary has broken up with zero, he still wants to help zero of the book?

and i dont get why zero would transfer damage to her. it makes no sense. you should always put tank before wizard (and other team members if you have). tank would stand huge damage and protect wizard. wizard stands in the protection of tank, and can focus on treatment and output magic without interruption. if wizard gets hit and disabled, the team would be screwed.

i guess this spell must be put when they are together, like, that bath scene. i cant imagine this spell can be used to anyone miles away, even if you dont know him, even if you dont know if he exists, what he is. if can so, wizards dont need to actually come to the village for a carnage.

Interesting episode seeing Zero and Mercenary separated from each other as Mercenary continues to struggle with the fact that he's a beastfallen. I thought he had actually found someone who trusted him in the tavern girl but she was just using him in the end...sad! I don't really get how or why Zero was struck with the arrow meant for Mercenary but maybe they will elaborate next episode

Good episode.

So our Mercenary actually ended up leaving, I did like how he put some of the other beastfallen in town in their place. I liked the tavern girl a lot, even if she was just trying to use Mercenary she seemed nice. The scene with our Mercenary leaving the tavern was still pretty sad.
That flashback of tavern girl's mother was pretty brutal, a starving beastfallen is truly dangerous.

So Wolf Guy was actually hired by Sorena to protect her granddaughter, Interesting, Funny how he got wrecked again though.

Zero seems to have put some kind of spell on Mercenary that transfers all his wounds to her, Poor Zero. :(
I really hope Zero and Mercenary make up soon.

Seems like next episode we're going to learn more about Sorena's granddaughter. Let's see if the people theorizing that it's Albus are correct.

I really wish that this was 2 cour, I don't want this series to end so soon

Other than that, it's really hard for me to watch how fucked up this world is....It's filled with so much animosity, prejudice and violence and it just seems like it's gonna be endless and just the thought of this saddens me

That new girl was pretty cool and I was really liking her time with the Mercenary but as usual, the reality of this world sets in and things just go from bad to worse (And what happened to her mom is just depressing)

And then we have Zero's emotional state and how she showcased that she truly cared a lot about the Mercenary and what really touched me was that she clearly put a spell on him whereas whatever happens to himwould be inflicted on herself instead TwT

Damn this show has me all fucked up lol....This world needs to be reformed ASAP though, all this darkness needs to stop....And I'm starting to think now that Albus really is Sorena's granddaughter lol, all of this foreshadowing cannot be a coincidence

Poor Youhei, first off he's alone, then he finds out that the reason for his invitation wasn't kindness, but just selfishness and to top this shitty day off he got attacked by witches. The only consoling thing about this episode was that Zero is still caring about him and even labeled Youhei as hers in front of Thirteen, which was kinda nice to see. But why did she took the damage in place of Youhei ? Did she put some kind of spell on him ?

And if Albus is really the granddaughter then I'm kinda confused, thought till now that he is a boy. anime and it's gender indentify issues

Good episode overall.

Well as much as we dislike el Wolfo from what I saw in the PV
Also of course zero still cares for him and deeply. And he still cares for her. This really comes from her not fully understanding how damaged his issues are trust wise... (Example when he complained about zero to the guards it looks negative on the surface but hes hurting himself)

I would assume he should start having some internal guesses as to what happened with that arrow and with the feelings after.. and the fact that it was the memory of Zero herself and her words that snapped him back to his senses.

the Tavern girl isnt' evil.. in fact she has the same trust issues HE has; he seemed 'hurt' but not angry. Almost like he understands .. because he likely does lol. As per t he words she mouthing? Its an apology.

So time to go save zero and Albus. before they burn her and before 13 does anything to zero. And stuff that vile of crap hes holding onto down 13s throat

Youhei seems to discover that made him save the wolf guy and go back to the castle for a rescue mission.

It's gonna be a long week waiting. If its gonna be like that, might as well wait till the series is completed. My excitement is killing me.

Feel sad for Mercenary being alone now but hopefully not for long.

He has plenty of beastfallen abusing their power to beat up anyway so he has something to his frustrations out on.

I wonder if the girl at the inn he helperd was a witch? Same eye colour as Zero which doesn't mean anything but I wonder anyway.

Mr Wolf thought he was so clever, luckily he had useful info he was able to use as a get out of jail/death free card.

I really like how Zero got very pissed off at Thirteen for using those trick on Mercenary.

I was like damn, Zero takes bullets for Mercenary, shows how much she cares for him.

Zero's reaction still annoys me. She knows 13 would do something like that and it's perfectly reasonable that Youhei would doubt her since he's lived almost his entire life fighting Witches. I get that she's supposed to be kind of naive but her reaction just makes her seem like an illogical dunce when she's supposed to be the "smart" one.

this anime probably cant get a tv sequel. it sells really bad in japan. the 1st box is estimated to sell about four or five hundred copies. (2 BD&DVD boxes, 6 episodes in each.)
dengeki bunko has many novels yet to adapt. they wont spend money on something that cant sell well.

Maybe if the source sales get a jump they'd be ok with it? Either way I like this show, it doesn't do anything revolutionary but it's well put together and the world is interesting enough.

I find zero's method of protecting him to be quite crazy and despite her words last episode, she really was affected greatly by the loss of her mercenary. I guess her actions said a lot more than her words did here, transferring damage from him to her is quite insane.

My guess is that she has seen thirteen's handiwork so many times that it was better to let the mercenary go instead. Remember she confirmed in this episode that she KNOWS he is a fearful man, so she must also know the extent that thirteen's handiwork would have affected him.

no, the anime adaption has little to no boost to the original novel. we cant see old volumes back to best-sales, and the recent volume sells no better than before. (volume 9: 7992 in first ten days.)

That was a thoroughly enjoyable first half, not only did it give us another idea of how beastfallen are treated, but it was also a breath of fresh air from the constant drama rambling of Zero about "my mercenary this and my mercenary that" acting like they're best buds who've known each other for years, I'm so tired of her.

Definitely the most interesting episode so far, with it becoming more and more clear just how much Zero cares about "her" Mercenary, what with that spell protecting him but damaging her instead. It was also interesting seeing Mercenary somewhat living up to his reputation in how he fought those witches, but it was also nice to see the other side of him at the bar dealing with those other Beastfallen.

You could understand her desperation and need to manipulate Youhei's good nature and sense of honor. You can even understand their hatred of Beastfallen. With the brutal death of their mother, and the other beastfallen acting like thugs over their business.

Still feels shitty how much it hurt Youhei. I think she understood that in the end, when even after Youhei realized he was being used, he still threw out the thug beastfallen anyways.

But the way it played out. It was creepy. You almost felt that "Zero" openness vibe about Tavern Girl in the beginning at the liquor store. Like she was almost a Zero replacement character. Only to realize that she was being completely manipulative.

In the end, you hoped the tavern girl changed in some way; maybe she'll let go of her hate; and not turn on or manipulate every "nice" Beastfallen she meets.

Wow,that was actually really damn good. Our mercenary just doesn't know what to believe or side with anymore, with people shunning beastfallen yet seeing how some of them act gives some reasons for that too. Some witches would go for his head, while some are simply persecuted. There are really no easy answers for someone like him who just wants to be a decent person. Tbh, he'd have it easier if he'd just chose a side and stick with it,yet I get that it's hard to do because every side will make one do pretty awful things. Also, him choosing a side would just make the show way less interesting :P

Good episode. Really like this series. Seems like one of those one-cour series that would get a season 2 announcement at the end for 2 seasons from now. Or at least I hope--I really have liked the pacing so far and think this has a lot of promise.

I think the only problem I have with the series so far is that it doesn't really tell us why Zero is so attached to Mercenary. It's rather circumstantial at this point: Zero has a pure mind, she finds Mercenary to be the same, and she likes his cooking and fur...But nothing really to the point where I think it makes sense at all for her to have bonded herself to Mercenary such that she would absorb all the damage he does? It seems especially inexplicable given that she is a rather rational person (emphasizing that she's out for her own gains) and between the two of them surely she knows that he should be the one to take up damage.

It would make sense if they shared some past or there's something else that gets revealed later. But at this point it seems a bit weird that Zero would be doing something that's akin to love.

are you really not paying attention to the subtle details? it's purely out of good will and curiosity. just as she wrote the grimoire.

>I experimented 100 samples and proved that they had no brain when they were 12

This is what science has done to humanity.
